DizzyDancingDopeRunsDisney... 17nights at Disney PTR

Hi Karen! I found your PTR from when you commented on my TR, so exciting that you're doing Run Disney! I would LOVE to do it one day! I hope training is going well :goodvibes

Also, just looking at your ADR list is making me hungry... I live for Disney food :lovestruc And I think you need to add Ohana to your list! If that's still in your plans :thumbsup2 which makes the list even more perfect. Oh wow. I'm excited to read about this trip already :goodvibes

HEY! Thanks for popping by! Training is going good at the moment, I've been rather neglecting my PTR as I'm writing my trip report from last Oct/Nov! I just moved as well from Dublin to London so the last few weeks have been CRAZY!
I've updated our list now! Definitely going back to Ohana, I'm so excited!! :yay:

If you've any interest at all in running you should definitely check the RunDisney events out, I did my first one as part of our last trip (the wine and dine half) which I'd definitely recommend as a first. ALSO they are doing the first ever one in Paris in September 2016! I'm going to head to that one for sure! :woohoo:

Running Update

I initially intended for this PTR to double as a training log but that hasn’t quite happened! I have still been running a lot but with injury and moving country it’s been far less organized that I would have liked! I’m finally settling in over here in London so I think it’s about time I get a regular running journal going.

I’ve still been following my original training plan for the most part with adjustments made when my injuries flared up. My initial problem I believed was with my knee but it turned out to be my gracilis muscle on the inside of my right leg. I’d left it quite a while from feeling the initial twinges on my run out in Brussels in March to seeking proper treatment at the end of April, I’d also been running in the meantime and making matters worse!

Basically this Gracilis muscle was really tight and unhappy and was pulling on my knee cap and causing problems there and to other muscles in my right leg.

I went for physio and had several rounds of dry needling (Myofacial Trigger PointDry Needling) which is NOT A FUN EXPERIENCE PEOPLE but it really did help. I wasn’t able to run the day I had treatment or the day after but I was able to continue running on other days and just not increase my mileage so it didn’t impact too negatively on training.

I bought a foam roller and this has become my new best friend! For anyone that runs it’s a worthwhile investment and really cuts down recovery time.

I’ve continued to have minor issues mainly in the same area. I went back to physio a few weeks ago but was able to make do with sports massages so that I could continue running, our training has kicked up a gear now so I really didn’t want to miss any of our long runs at the weekend.

As I’ve moved to London I don’t get to run with my Dad and Sister anymore I really miss the company and the additional motivation and accountability. I’ve decided to join a running club and have an initial assessment with them next week. I’m traveling home to Dublin next week also and we’re finishing out Phase 1 of our training with a 10mile run that will hopefully give us a good qualifying time for Dopey. My Dad and sister have already run a half marathon in Dublin (the rock ‘n’ roll half) which I was gutted to miss out on! They ran pretty well too and got a time of 2hrs 25mins which is a pace of 11mins04secs per mile which is pretty good! Hopefully we can improve on this at our 10mile run next week, I'm also running a half marathon in London in September which will still qualify as a proof of time if necessary ::yes::

My plan going forward now is to post a weekend update journal documenting my training. I'll also start adding more detail to our holiday plans now that our ADRs are finalised :beach:

29/08/2015 - Stretch
30/08/2015 - 8m run

This week started out with dry needling on my right quad on Monday. It... was... PAINFUL! My physio told me I would need rest Monday and Tuesday but would hopefully be able to run Wednesday so I adjusted my plan accordingly. I've got 9weeks of training until my first ever marathon! Wow that sounds scary!

My main focus over the next 9 weeks is to stick to my training plan, I want to get the mileage under my belt without any more injury. To help prevent injury I've got a stretching plan to follow and I've also got a strength training plan which isn't super hardcore but focuses on building strength in my legs and core. I'm running a half marathon in week 5 and want to finish in under 2hrs25 as this is the time my Dad and Sister finished their half that they'll be using for POT for Dopey.
