Dixon IL Anyone?

We are headed to Dixon IL for a conference this summer. There are 4 hotels listed on Trip Advisor. Any comments on any of them? Are there any towns close by with good lodging?

Anyone even know where this is???

DH is from that area. We go there often. What hotels are you looking at? The Country Inn and Suites is nice, newer, and right by the tollway. There is another one right next door, but the name escapes me right now. What are the others?

Kimmie, Rock Falls is a little west, we're coming from Ohio. The only hotels I found are a Quality Inn and a Comfort Inn. Is there anything between Dixon and Chicago? Or is Dixon in the middle of nowhere?

We drive by it on the way to Indianapolis. All I know about it is that it is the boyhood home of Ronald Reagan.

HI, had to look up where it is. Well, there's not much there there. I'm sure it's a nice town, but it isn't terribly close to a lot. The Dixon Il site gives more info. That's about the best I can tell you. Maybe you can tie the trip into a side trip to Chicago, or Galena.

Well, I'm in Sterling, about 8 miles west of Dixon. I know of the Comfort and Quality Inns, right off the interstate, and then there's another (Best Western?) sitting out in the country a bit this side of Dixon. I'd grab the Comfort Inn. There's a Pizza Hut right next door and a Super Walmart and a few little stores in a strip mall.

I'd definitely stay in Dixon as opposed to driving on to Rock Falls. And we've got no hotel at all here in Sterling so we aren't even an option.

We're definitely sitting out in the middle of the corn fields, LOL!

You are right! I was thinking of the Comfort Inn. It, and Quality Inn are right next to each other. Both of them are relatively new. I think you would be fine with the Comfort Inn. (NOT Disney), but for the area its good. The Country Inn and Suites is in Rock Falls. I have stayed there and like it the best. Only five miles from Dixon on the tollway.

Growing up in the burbs of Chicago, I too didn't think there is anything beyond the big city. But I was wrong. I found my DH there! We lived in Sterling for many years too. (just down the road a piece).
My first choice would be Comfort Inn in Rock Falls (Candlelight restaurant right next door - has yummy chicken george!)
Second would be Comfort Inn in Dixon.

I had an aunt and uncle that lived in Dixon. We never stayed there, we stayed at my Grandma's in Freeport, IL which is about a half hour away (place of one of the Lincoln Douglas debates). We stayed at the Country Inn and Suites in Freeport a couple years ago. My cousins were always going to Sterling because there was nothing to do in Dixon.

I recommend a stop at Culvers for burgers and frozen custard.

Sorry I can't help with lodging info...

I grew up in Rockford, IL...not too far from Dixon (maybe an hour drive or so??) Its been quite a few years since I have been through Dixon so maybe it's grown since then, but don't expect much...pretty small quiet town.

All the towns within close driving distance are also pretty unremarkable (sorry if you are from the area...this is just my take on it.).

Like the other posters said, Ronald Regan lived there at one time.

Take some time to visit the boyhood of home of Ronald Reagan while you're there. It's really neat. They have the house restored and opened up to the public.

Wow, thanks everyone. I'm leaning towards the Country Inn in Rockford bc the ones in Dixon say they allow pets and that scares me a bit.

So if it's such a small town, in the middle of nowhere, why are they having the 2 biggest names in the Autism/Asperger's world coming to speak?!

If you will have kids with you the Clock Tower Resort just added a waterpark in the last year (it is right out by the tollway). It isn't anywhere near the caliber of a Kalahari but it's pretty good. It's near a lot of restaurants and stuff to do. (Magic Waters outdoor water park, CherryVale Mall, Movie theaters, mini put, go-carts, stores, etc.)

I live in Rockford now and totally agree! Clock Tower with the indoor water park is nice! Right off of I90 and exactly one hour drive to Dixon. If you are here in the summer Magic Waters is wonderful too!
