Divas, Zebra Domes, and Pixie Dust! A Week in an African Paradise! New TR Link Pg.145

I needed a dose of Disney and found your trip report at the top of the Disney Trip Reports queue. I can't wait for more! My husband is diabetic too and keeping the blood sugar in check is not easy at Disney World!:sad2:

I read your update the other day but didn't get a chance to comment! Sorry! Those bat pictures nearly made me cry! I hate them! idk what it is about bats, maybe because they resemble birds with the wings and all, idk but i just hate them. petrified. I quickly scanned through those :rotfl: I loveddd the tiger shots though! They're GORGEOUS animals and your shots really do them justice :thumbsup2

tee hee I could have so used Connor's smarts ( or as they say in NY "Smaats") 2 nights ago! I was walking the dog late at night and I saw a Tarantula on the sidewalk :scared1: I ran back to the house ( I don't even think my poor dog had the chance to do his business ) and told my DH to hurry and come out cause there was a tarantula- I wish I could have taken a picture of his face - cause he was sleeping on the couch when I yelled at him and woke him up :lmao: - anyhow he puts his boots on (it was 96 degrees out) - just in case the killer tarantula was gonna attack him :confused3 and an comes out with me to check out the scary scene- I was shocked  to see that it had not moved since I left it- well it was dark and DH said it was best to leave it alone- meanwhile my neighbor is now walking up the street with his 3 dogs and I quickly warn him about the killer Tarantula that has invaded our hood - he was freaked out too and of course being a man he wants to come see it - he walks over and starts busting out laughing :rotfl2: and making fun of me cause it was not a tarantula but just a harmless little dried up leaf/twig thingy - aka - tarantula impersonator. I was mortified- but see- I was born and raised in NY- lived there for 33 years - then moved to NC about 3 years ago ( yikes Im gonna be 36 soon!) and have never seen more freaky, crazy bugs in my life. But now- thanks to Connor :worship: I now do not have worry about stumbling on tarantulas in my hood anymore- cause I although I may live in the South- I am clearly not in South America!

Hi! Followed you over here from MEK's tr. I am staying at Kidani in Dec and wanted to read some trip reports of people that stayed at either Kidani or AKL. So, I'm subbing! Can't wait for more! It's going to keep my going til I go in 5 months!

It's great to have that time with your kids before they morph into teenagers. With Chelsea headed into grade 7 I'm sure you'll notice a big change in this upcoming year.

So Connor wants a tiger for a pet does he? Lucky you.

Beautiful pictures of the animals! The bats kinda freak me out, but this is the second TR I've read recently where there was a comment about how cute they were. And they are behind bars? I like that! :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

Yes, go make friends with the bats, Brook. They are really quite endearing.

I love the pic of the tiger drinking water - GREAT shot. And Connor's bat pose, it reminds me of your last TR. :goodvibes

I was so excited that the tiger was up and drinking.

Where are you off to next...hmm...my guess is the Lion King Show???

You shall see...:rolleyes1

Thanks! That gives me something to start with. :thumbsup2

Let me know if I can help with anything else! :thumbsup2

CP did I miss an announcement while I was away this weekend? Hmmmm....

Well, I haven't made a big announcement yet or anything. ;)

:surfweb: I love sitting here reading your posts! Connor reminds me of my 7 year old...he is SUCH a drama king when it comes to fish smells, he will make himself throw up, so we have to avoid it....Also, he cries alot when scolded, its nice he is not the only little boy this way!

:welcome: I am right there with ya -- I am glad to hear that there are other little boys that act like Connor! :thumbsup2

Jackie, Tell Connor that we have a Tarantula named Rosie living in our basement for the summer(in a aquarium). She's our classroom pet. I would hate for her to get loose in the yard......

So, what does one feed a tarantula??? And who has to feed him???

Sorry MeMom - didn't mean to get you choked up.

I will definitely put Nemo on our next-time list -- we always just keep walking when we are near it.

Loved your update. Something that always amazes me about your TRs is how you and your family seem to stop and smell the roses along the way - and remember to snap some pics, too. You make it seem like you're the only ones in the parks! Just seems so relaxing!

Ah, thank you! We do try to take our time and enjoy ourselves, but by the afternoon we start to get tired and cranky. I have noticed that I take fewer and fewer pictures as the day gets later.

I love that Connor is comfortable chatting it up with the CMs. Sounds like he was very interested in the topic, too! :)

He was very interested in the tigers -- I think he really was contemplating getting one as a pet one day.

:wave2: Hi, I was in the mood for another friendly TR and I decided on yours.

I started with the PTR and read all of it until now. You did a great job! :thumbsup2

It was so fun following along with all your families adventures.
You have adorable kids, cute pets and I do believe a converted "WDWfan" husband.

I enjoyed all the little Disney touches you added along the way.
We do alot of the same thing in prep for a trip.
I will have to borrow some of your ideas like the Mickey sundae. :)

I was so happy to read about the Tusker House bkfst as it was on our list of ADR's. I can't wait to go next year.

Hope you can use another friend on this ride.....

:welcome: There is plenty of room for everyone! :thumbsup2 I have read all of your comments over on MeMom's reports over the last year or so, and I am so excited that you came over here to play, too! Thank you for all the compliments! I liked the Mickey sundaes because they were so easy to make! :goodvibes

Your son is so funny. First the fish thing and now this. Kids...they do the craziest things. Love 'em. The pictures you took of the tigers are gorgeous!

Great pics! I love AK too, it is so photogenic! And the bats are super cool. So unusual and interesting!

I always take a ton of pictures there. When I get the prints back it is always glaringly obvious which park I like the most.

Too funny on Connor during your DISmeet. Isn't that the way? I have had those moments too when you are like "what has gotton into you child???"

Allyson

Exactly! :lmao::rotfl::thumbsup2

Oh and poor Charles having to miss out on AK. He isn't seeing much so far in this trip. It is more like a Mom and Kids trip. I hope he gets out with you all soon!

He does off and on -- he was not feeling Disney this trip.

Haha, this just made me laugh, thinking about Connor that DIS-meet..... It was a different story when it was HIS DISkid-meet. :rotfl2: I know off topic but I was thinking and it just popped out!:rolleyes1

Yes, that is so true, isn't it? He wasn't making animal noises or tugging on my arm that night. ;)

I have something new in the works...the link is in my siggie...it's turning into a pretty spiffy trip. :)

I will come check it out!

:welcome: You know exactly what it's like at Disney with a diabetic. We have been so lucky up until this year, and then this year his blood sugar was all over the place. :sad2:

Hi, Kristen! I thought about your aversion to bats when I posted those pictures and figured you would just scroll past them super fast. :goodvibes Thanks for the compliments on the tiger pics!

Oh, I laughed so hard over this story! Thanks for sharing it! I know what you mean about the bugs -- there are some rather large ones down here in the south. Plus, I have been known to think leaves are big toads sitting in the dark, so it can happen to anyone!

:welcome: You will just fall in love with all of Animal Kingdom Lodge! I have lots more pictures of the resort!

It's great to have that time with your kids before they morph into teenagers. With Chelsea headed into grade 7 I'm sure you'll notice a big change in this upcoming year.

I am already noticing a lot of changes this summer -- she is so moody sometimes -- I will be joking with her about something that a few months ago (or even a few hours ago) she would have laughed at, and instead she bursts into tears and disappears into her room. Yikes! Teaching middle school I should be used to this, but it's different somehow.

So Connor wants a tiger for a pet does he? Lucky you.

I know, right? I told him we had no room for an animal that could potentially eat us if we didn't feed him on time. ;)

Your son is so funny. First the fish thing and now this. Kids...they do the craziest things. Love 'em. The pictures you took of the tigers are gorgeous!

Connor definitely just puts it all out there! He doesn't hold anything back EVER. :lmao:

Thank you! They were so fun to watch. I loved how they just padded around so silently and gracefully on those big paws of theirs.

We feed Rosie live crickets from the local pet store. Usually it's me doing the feeding. During the school year I like to feed her on Fridays so we don't have to listen to much chirping.....

Oh my!
I am so glad that there are teachers like you that have fun pets like tarantulas, so I can be the kind of teacher that doesn't. :lmao::rotfl::rotfl2:

I was a bit worried that the new teammates wouldn't want me to bring her, but they were fine about it. The only thing is she has to be in a common area of our room so that all the kids get to see her...
She's kind of cute, all furry, lots of eyes......:lmao:

What a fun update, Jackie! I love Animal Kingdom - I would say that Magic Kingdom is still my favorite, but AK is a close 2nd. I just love seeing all the animals and your great pictures brought it all back! :goodvibes

Have a good one!

Me, too! Only I want it to stay a baby/toddler tiger. I see them on Animal Planet and they are so sweet and cuddly!

Ruht-roh!
There is no turning back now!

In fantasy, I'd like to be the teacher with all the cool pets, but in reality, the feedings, bringing them home on weekends, the diseases, the poop, the cleaning... I just don't have the time or resources for it.

I take a weekend off from dissing and have 4 pages to catch up with on your ptr! No more weekends off for me.

I love the pics of the tigers. They are just so beautiful. Everytime I go to AK though they are all off hiding though. I never seem to catch any out and about. I'm glad I've got your pics to see. The pics of your kids are too funny. They are both such hams in front of the camera. Definitely not camera shy!

Yes, they do -- but like puppies they grow up and are nothing but trouble.

Sigh. That's what I am afraid of. ;)

Exactly. So, like I told Wigd, I am so glad there are other teachers with pets, so the kids get to see them.

Did you have a good Fourth? I was excited that the tigers were out for our first encounter with them. Nope, Chelsea and Connor are not camera shy although there is a picture later in the trip report where Connor has clearly had enough of posing.

Ummmm, Ummmmm, just so you know, I stand armed and ready!!! I also know that my Brother, Shocker also can dig up some extra ammunition from the wagon if needed!!! Please let Connor know there is a voice out here in cyber space that is willing to stick up for him!!!!! pirate:

Yes, it was a wonderful 4th. I actually had two days blissfully and completely off, and managed to get out of work early on day 3. Plus I got to see the nieces, and nothing is better than having one of them snuggling up against me while watching fireworks.
