This last Christmas my daughter gave me a purse/bag that is made by ladies in Africa, I think but ladies from very poor countries for sure. The money made from selling their wares is mostly sent back to the makers of the items so they can buy more supplies to make more items to sell. The ladies use the money earned to buy food, meds, clothes, school supplies for their family or even money to be able to send their children to school.

I love the fact you buy items that they can reuse like the goats for milk. One day no child will have to go hungry. One day the mom's will not have to go without so that their children can eat and drink clean water.

**Thanks! It's even more challenging when the weather during the week we are there will range from 59 to 83 degrees. I had to pack shorts/tanks and pants/jackets. It looks like we are going away for a month!!



Last night, 3 of my close friends and I hosted a fundraiser for the African orphanage that we worked at last September. We had brought back lots of African crafts, jewelry, etc. and sold it to raise money. We were hoping to raise between $2-$3000 - I was so shocked when we realized that we raised over $7000!! We are committing half of that to make sure that all the kids get a glass of milk 5 times a week for a year (milk is a luxury item and the kids do not get it). In the meantime, we are buying goats so that as they mature, the kids will have their own supply. I am exhausted but so happy this morning!

That's amazing, Bridget! What a wonderful thing for you and your friends to do. I bet it felt great!!!

It was beautiful! I kept yelling at my tv for the, "you may now kiss the bride." But that never happened! I bet the two of them were dying to kiss by the tine they reached the balcony Her dress was amazing - so classy and elegant; perfect for the importance of that wedding. All of the hats were great too! I have one hat now, but am trying to build a collection and bring them to America

My son's gma called me this morning since she is taking him for the weekend. She let me know that his dad is now in jail. I went to the courthouse and spent a few hours today getting forms and talking to the legal help about obtaining full custody now. I will have to wait till payday on Monday to file, but the process is started. This is not going to be fun...

Morning all.

Shane tivoed the wedding but I have yet to watch it and don't know if I will or not. Not sure how long it is. I have seen lots of pics and I agree Kate looked lovely. It looked like it was very nice!

Jen I am sorry about your son's dad. We have a deadbeat "mom" in our family if you can believe that. A lot of the older gals know about it and I won't get into a long dissertation but basically she did horrible things to my stepdaughter and we got pretty much full physical custody when she was 7 but I wish we had even gone so far as to restrict or even stop the visitations because you don't even want to know what was done to that kid when she went to her mom's (and not saying that your ex did or does anything bad to his son) but I just know that in our particular case it was a bad situation and I think the best thing would have been if she had never even gone over there! I just hope you can get it all worked out and that if your ex IS decent in any way that he can get his act together for his son's sake. It sounds like at least the grandparents are good people which is good. We didn't even have THAT! Good luck!!

Didn't do a whole lot yesterday. We have had a big mess going on in our office with some of our agents and I have really scaled back my work and I am now working basically without pay. I will now only be going in for a very few hours a week just to work on the computer and will no longer be taking any pay. Things are just really bad at work and I don't feel comfortable taking a check which is going to be REALLY hard on us considering Shane's lack of work but I felt guilty every time I got paid because it is THAT bad so until things get better anyway (which I seriously doubt they will) I will basically just be helping my mom out.

So needless to say things are pretty stressful round here. I think our trip in June will be our last anywhere for a LONG while. I don't know about OR but honestly I don't really feel like it and now I DEF don't have the money to do it and I think Oct and prob even the ladies trip are out for me. But one must do what one must do to get by.

I just get sick of hearing that the recession is over when it sure the heck isn't in our town and doesn't really seem to be anywhere else LOL.

Anyway I had already bought a cake (ordered it now picking it up today) last week for Shelby's birthday but we aren't getting together with our friend's now so not sure if we will just eat it here or go to mom's but we are def looking forward to the movie tomorrow.

Just like I thought Wimpy kid is gone from the theaters so she asked her friends and the decided on Gnomeo and Juliet. So we will be seeing that tomorrow.

So that is my weekend in a nutshell.

Just a quickie from me! I think we are all ready! I spent the day getting last minute things together, and baking some goodies for the road. We picked up the rental minivan tonight and the kids love it!!
Why they'd want to keep a brand new one over the 13 year old, 250,000 mile van we have now, is beyond me.

We head out early in the morning. Early being a relative term with six people to get up and ready. Hopefully by 8:00, but we'll see.

I don't know if I'll have a way to check in while we are gone. I don't have one of those fancy phones that posts pictures and let's you get online, so *gasp* I might be technology free for a whole week!!!!

Today at least was a good day! Was able to not think about the bad stuff for awhile so it was nice! Shelby has had a nice long celebration this week which has been nice because I have felt SO guilty about not being able to give her a party this year esp since we were able to give Katy one on her birthday. But she DID get her bike which was a big gift and we normally don't get them that big or expensive of gifts so there was that and she got to take cookies to school and go out to dinner ON her birthday even if the dinner itself was kind of lame LOL and she really liked the gifts from my mom and the extra little goodies I gave her. And then today we went to the farmer's market and the girls got some baked goods and had fun looking at all the fruits and veggies and trying stuff and then mom let Katy buy some fresh herbs to plant for her cooking.

Then we went to this festival they have in one of our nearby towns and we just walked around and looked at all the fun booths and such. And then we had dinner and the cake so it was a nice relaxing and kick back day and we still got to do some fun stuff even if we didn't have a big party.

And then tomorrow as I said we are getting together with her 2 good friends from school and going to the movie. So she has had a long drawn out celebration.

Beth I am sure you may be offline by now and you probably won't see this but I know you are going to have a fabulous time!! ENJOY!!!!

And I hope everyone else has a good rest of your weekend as well!!

Hello everyone besides being busy with family I have been busy at work (I have 7 more weeks of work and it is super busy trying to make sure all paper work/end of the year stuff is done) But I wanted to stop by and say hello.

I missed posting before Beth left but the weather in San Diego should be beautiful while she is there.

So am I the only one who could care less about the wedding Friday?? You'd think with all the hoopla that we were all british.....I just don't get.......it really doesn't mean anything to the americans does it??

My cousin stayed up for the wedding I had to laugh at her but when I did see pictures/news the next day it was a beautiful wedding and the British love the royal family I thought it was crazy how many people were there outside just to get a glimpse.

Jen I hope all goes well for you and your son. It is a hard thing to go thru. My kids dad wasn't around I guess I was lucky I never had to go thru the courts (he wouldn't fight for them because he doesn't want to pay child support) but it is sad now they want nothing to do with him when he calls. My kids are 15 and 18 - maybe he is trying to get a relationship when he thinks he won't have to pay child support but they don't care and he will always have 900000 that he owes (I have heard of people getting back child support once there kids were adults)

Kelly sorry about everything that your family is going thru right now but it looks like you have a good support system and are still enjoying time with your children, family and friends.

Beth hope your having a fabulous Time!

I have been gone a few weeks, and have tons and tons of pages to read back on.

We have had 2 pipes break in our house over the last 2 weeks And the last one fried the computer, and wi-fi. We were in the midst of getting a new dest for the office, and thus everything was on the floor. We are waiting for final estimates from homeowners and contractors to see how much all the repairs will be, sigh...its not been fun at all.

So I am back now, on my work laptop, but it will do until we can get a new one for home. Been working about 16 hour days, work is nuts right now, plus we have had the Mother in Law visit and my boyfriends best friend too. So after 3 weeks of continuous crazy house, we are takin a lazy day today, went fishing, did yard work, and now gonna read back here, take a hot bath and start a new book.
