making our first trip to Ft. Wilderness this summer with the pop up and was wondering if there were rules to dispose of gray water on sites. We have a water and electric only site. Thanks!!

i don't know of any 'rules concerning grey water, but I do know there is a general purpose pumpout well near the enterance. I believe it is free too. you can call the front desk to make sure.

I've been reading the forums for 3 years, but this is my first post. The boards are a great source of info and I do know the answer to this one! You are to put gray water in a container (I use an empty milk jug), cap it, and dispose of it in the dumpster. I always freeze 1-2 gallon jugs of spring water (we are water drinkers). The ice lasts longer in the cooler, we have bottled water to drink when it thaws, then I use the empty containers for gray water.

Grey Water is any water that doesn't come from the toilet's holding tank in a RV or camper.

I think it means water that comes from going down your sink drains or ??dishwasher?? drains or tub drain.

And then is commode waste a different category?

Yes, it is called sewage and is in a seperate holding tank on the RV or camper. When you "dump" your holding tanks in to the septic well at the campground, you always dump the sewage first and then the grey water. This way the grey water rinses the hose for you, and makes the whole process cleaner.

Some pop up campers don't have a toilet, hense no sewage holding tank. But they still need to dispose of their grey water. That is what this thread is about.

Again, I believe there is a pumpout well on the trailer hookup/disconect driveway near the enterance. I can be wrong, but it wouldn't hurt to call the front desk.

We just put our sink disposal hose in the open drain there at the camp site. I thought that is what it was for. Would someone please let me know if this is not ok. We have been pop-up camping at FtW for years and do this every time. I'd hate to think we were disposing where we shouldn't have.

Are these open drains at all the campsites? Again, we just have water and electricty.

water and electric only sites do not have sewer hook up

Grey water tank= used water from sinks, showers etc
Black Water tank= used water etc from toilets

Hi, I know you are not allowed to dispose of grey water on the ground..it is against the law in most states. In the camping loops with tent sites, and with water and electric, they used to have a station at the bath houses for washing dishes, that is where we dumped gray water. Since all we used it for was washing hands and dishes. That was a few years back. Hope that helps some.
