Disposable Wedding Cameras???

Did anyone use these - or is anyone planning on using these?

I'm wondering if it's a waste....some of my guests may decide to keep them and use them to take pics of their Disney vacation!!

I did see digital camcorders on the theknot.com that I think would be neat - but not sure if it's worth the trouble.

I am planning on using them. I got 10 at Rite Aid they were doing a fund raiser for cancer and each camera was free with a one dollar donation so I got ten.

My opinion is that they are kind of a waste b/c you end up with so many bad/blurry shots or pix of people's knees taken by the kids. I figured I was paying pro photographers to capture all the spontaneous moments of the day, why pay for all that developing too?

I thought about the whole disposable camera thing, but then decided not to do it because a lot of times the quality of the picture is so bad. Plus nowadays everyone has a digital camera so I figure I would just have them email their pictures.

Good point! I thought about putting them in the welcome bags, but that makes more sense. (especially with the cost of their photographer)

It's kinda "90's" if you ask me...plus Im sure you'll get one or two inappropriate pics if ya know what I mean...you're better off saving your money and letting people take pics with their digitals. A lot of people have bought me picture CDs of their pictures which was super nice too

OMG - I didn't want to say anything, but I know people make a point of taking inappropriate pix at every wedding that has disposable cameras...

Yeah I agree. I had also thought about putting them in the welcome bags, but I would mean for them to keep them and take pictures during their vacation for themselves but nowadays everybody has a digital camera.

Disposable cameras (with flash) were an item that was added at the very last minute to my FTW vow renewal. The vendor who was working on all the little special touches for my event convinced me to add them. And to tell you the truth, I'm glad that she did. If she hadn't, I probably wouldn't have any photos from the private motor coach ride to our dinner reception. That ride was an awful lot of fun, but my two Disney photographers weren't on it with us since they had high-tailed it over to the Hollywood Studios theme park in order to get a couple of photos of my group as we arrived backstage. I can't fault them for that.

Here is a photo of the disposable camera -- it was silver in color and was placed inside a silver-colored organza bag:

As each guest boarded the private motor coach at the Wedding Pavilion, they were handed a bag that contained a camera. This photo is of my sister -- she is holding the bag in her left hand:

And here is a photo of my sister and my husband that was taken by another guest with a disposable camera during our ride to the theme park:

I don't know which one of my guests took that photo, but I'm awfully glad that they did.

Good luck with your decision. I don't regret the one that I made.

Hi ladies!

I just wanted to add my two cents too - I used to work as a person who develops photos.

If you do decide to buy disposable cameras for your wedding - PLEASE buy a good brand. The cheaper disposable cameras (there are some companies that I'd love to name, but better not. Anything that "hides" the camera behind a paper wrapping might be a recycled camera...) are from recycled better brand disposable cameras that have been loaded with film and taped back together with black electrical tape. They are then repackaged under the new name. (Not all of them are "bad" but the recycled brands seemed to produce less quality photos.) Janet's camera above isn't hidden behind a cardboard paper wrapping - so those look like Kodak or Fuji brand.

Also remember to check the "use by date" on the camera box. The older the film, the less the photo quality will be upon development - and they might end up faded looking or dingy.

If you do use a disposable camera, opt to have only one copy printed first - or if you have a really good photo person, they might be able to print singles of scenery, doubles of photos with people, not print any bad ones that are all black...etc..

With all that said, I've seen GREAT photos from disposables. But I've also seen my fair share of really bad photos as well.

My thoughts is that you can never have too many photos!

I have seen new disposable digital - those look extremely interesting to me! I'd love to hear if anyone has tried those. I've never tried one! (And these might be what I'll be using for my wedding!)

I thought about doing the disposable cameras, but decided that everyone we know has a digital camera so it would really be a waste of money. On our wedding day, it was papparazzi central! Everyone had their digital cameras out snapping away. When we posed for Randy we would have 2 aunts on the left taking pics, a parent on the right... our entire day is very well documented! My brother & cousin had my 2 personal cameras and we pulled over 1000 pictures just from those. Plus the 1600+ from Randy...I think the digital photos they've taken will be higher quality than what we would have got with the disposable cameras. Plus, if the digital pics are awful-- DELETE!

We haven't done this yet, but we are going to ask our family and friends to send us their photos. Of course our wedding was 3 months ago yesterday so maybe I should have done that already... We should have put something out at our reception asking them to do this. I saw a few DIS brides with cute little stickers asking their guests to send the pics to them.

We had them at our wedding. No inappropriate pictures either. Since we had a problem with our regular photos for years they were all we had! I did get a bunch of similar pictures, lots of our dance, lots of cake cutting, but I also got a lot of cute, casual family pictures and to see my wedding from many points of view.

Of course, we got married in the 90s - so I just may not be cool anymore!

One of our local drug stores (I think it is Value-Drug - but I have to check the Sunday papers) has Disney disposable cameras on sale this week. I was thinking of picking up one for each table at our reception.

I do like the idea of giving one to everyone before boarding the bus because of the photos you will get from the trip - something to think about.

I also saw mini digital cameras (Disney) on sale this week and each camera holds 40 pictures (14.99). I was thinking about getting these instead. I would purchase one to see how they came out but at least they would be digital and it come with software to load on to your computer.

A friend of mine got married last year (not at Disney) and researched and chose a photographer from alot of very good recommendations. Well, the day of her wedding he showed up but took very bad pictures and missed alot of great shots. He didn't even get a shot of her cake - the only photo she has of it is one her flowergirl took with a disposable camera. I know we all do research and hope to pick the best photographers but I guess sometimes things happen.

I ended up having disposable cameras at my reception although I haven't gotten them developed yet. I'm glad that I did because I noticed people taking shots all over the place with them.

A lot of our guests were older and don't have digital cameras, so it made sense to us. Plus, when you get the pictures developed you don't have to purchase the ones that don't turn out. I guess it really depends on the crowd that you have there.

We are also having our guests upload their digital pictures to albums on Picasa, so everyone can share the pictures back and forth.

Buy some CD-Rs and Hard Mailing envelopes. Self address and put the appropriate postage on them and place them in everyone's Welcome Bag. That way they can just download their pics from their digitals and send them to us. Why Not? I mean, we may be out a couple of dollars postage, but I'd rather enable them to send the CD to us than have to keep harassing them later.

BTW...I had the disposable cameras on the tables in 1988. We got some fun pics (none that were inappropriate though).

FYI about possible camera sales,

the knot usually has a camera sale, 2.99 per camera once a year, get on their mailing list for the heads up

Also target had disposable wedding cameras at $1 last year, I bought 60 of them but I sold them to a co-worker who's wedding is next month. The expiration was Sept 2009 and I just wasn't sure if they would be good anymore when my wedding came. They came out after the easter stuff so check out the dollar bins next month.

Last resort, ebay is cheap for camera's

So here's my .2 cents, I've heard both sides, they suck but then they found the only good picture of such and such and they were so happy they had them.

My plan is to have them and just not spend alot on them. Just as an extra, just my thoughts
