Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

As far as like having your entire balcony covered in scaffolding/unusable- I don’t know that Disney will do that. Do we have reports of Disney having gone that far at YC or elsewhere? I know WL was undergoing an exterior refurb with lots of scaffolding in select spots when I was there during Spring.

We're up on attraction closures and openings (like Little Mermaid and Villains shows at the studios. No surprises there. But I check email with some trepidation now

Having just caught up on the thread for the day - I think you better call off the vacation.

Or let us know where you book next so we all can avoid.

:-) I kid, I kid.

Disney's ~37 year average deluxe hotel age doesn't do us a lot of favors and since it's been forever and a day since they've added new deluxe hotel inventory, there's sort of nowhere to go to find something newer and less prone to work (I'm not counting DVC for these purposes, just hotels). Actually, these 90's vintage hotels - YC, BC, BWI, WL (and throw in GF late 80s) are sort of like my 90's vintage house - a never-ending money pit of needed updates and renovations.

Hmm - maybe there's a way I can monetize this?

We considered dvc but with 5 rooms needed for 7 nights didn't think we'd be able to coordinate with people selling points

Somehow I don't think of these resorts as bring old. First stayed at gf in 89. BC in 94. If these resorts are old then I'm ancient. Well, relatively speaking....

I guess temporarily this is the new normal. Thanks for letting me let off steam - it was therapeutic

Now I expect Disboards to announce it will be down for maintenance next

It tends to be magnified at the Yacht Club / Beach Club since these (2) large resorts are joined in a single massive complex sharing a massive unique Stormalong Bay mini water park when all (3) opened in 1990.

This is a bummer as we have 3 rooms at YC booked starting July 19. I'm not concerned about 2 of the regular rooms that our adults kids will be in (LOL) but DH and I use our balcony a lot and scaffolding in front will be off putting. Right now we have a resort view club level room. It seems that most of the work will be in the front/entrance area so I'm wondering if we upgrade to water view will we have less of a chance of scaffolding? Any thoughts would be appreciated!
I’m in the exact same boat! Resort view club level booked starting 7/20… I really don’t want to upgrade but I also REALLY don’t want scaffolding directly outside the door. Decisions, decisions…

So I know what I’m looking out for - Disney usually announces reopenings? Like an announcement that SAB is reopening on X date. Or will it just reopen?

My husband is ready to move along but maybe because he’s sick of me talking about it.

There are reports out there that they're taking cabana reservations at SAB again for upcoming dates (July?). I wonder if anyone can share how early they've booked a cabana. Seems if they're booking cabanas 7/1 (just an example, I don't know for sure!), we'd have a pretty good idea of when the pool will be open again! But you're also correct - Disney needs to announce a date at some point - and soon!

Disney tends to not make any sort of announcement or fanfare when resort things reopen - they just… happen.

I’ve often wondered why they don’t immediately and with fanfare make a bigger to do of completions of resort room renovations in particular, reopening of popular pools, etc - seems a way to create cheap publicity to me. But with some exceptions that’s not what usually happens.

Us as resort fans tend to think these moments are super important, but alas it’s just a tiny dot on Disney’s corporate agenda somewhere.

:-)

Just chatted with a CM “As a re-opening date for Stormalong Bay has not yet been announced, the cabanas are not currently available for booking.”

Spoke to a wonderful CM. No Cabana rentals, no SAB date but the latest advisory regarding the front work did not include further closure so Guest Relations feels good about no extension too.
Was this a Recreation CM that you spoke to when you were trying to book a Cabana? J

Just to be clear there is no Front of the resort only work. The porte cochere work at both the YC / BC is just part of announced continuation / expansion of exterior maintenance work.

Dave

I think just a regular CM (though she put me on hold twice to confer with Guest Relations so who knows?!)

She said their BC/YC advisory was updated to include the porte cockere work but no mention of SAB work (my email received 5/27) included both which is why I questioned if it was extended.

Speaking of magic 8 balls -

Can anyone with an ear to multiple resort happenings offer an opinion on Beach Club renovation impact vs Polynesian impact?

Polynesian sounds like it's road construction as well as entrance work. Which on the surface implies more noise potential

And to add to the suspect CM info being shared, my travel agent spoke to one at the beach club (how she knew that I font know) and the work other than the porte cochere is supposed to be in small sections. Another my daughter chatted with said the scaffolds by beach club will be down in a couple of weeks

I don't believe any of it. I believe they are repeating what they are told but I don't expect they have the full project plan in front of them

Thanks. Many are waiting to make Cabana reservations, and there some random reports from other sources. Just trying to narrow it down as much as possible.

Dave

I'm told there are only 4 cabanas at SAB? I've called almost every day but I'm not optimistic we'd even get one of the four on our preferred day. Swan and Dolphin seemed to have a lot more than 4 as an comparison. While Polynesian doesn't have sny
