Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

Well, we have been lucky with crowds & weather until 6:00 tonight. And then the rain came. And came. And came. :rotfl2:

Along with lots of thunder & lightening. We were headed to Epcot for a Soarin fastpass & dinner in Italy. Made it to the International Gateway, held there for about 20 minutes. Seemed to slow down so we decided to head right to Italy. Ha! Made it inside the park. Halfway up the bridge to France, it let loose again. Found an umbrella that is set up for Food & Wine. Waited another 15 minutes or so, then kept going as it slowed down.

The biggest problems we had were all the poor drainage on the walkways. There were several areas with inches of water. Many people were just taking their shoes off & carrying them. We finally made it to Tutto Italia, about 1/2 hour before our ADR. They sat us immediately. There was very loud thunder as we ate. By the time finished it had slowed down again.

We made our way back to the International Gateway, avoiding the puddles as best as we could. The Friendship boats weren't running due to the lightening. At the base of the bridge back to he resorts, was a mini lake! Seriously, from the concrete posts to about 3 feet from the boat dock was 6- 8 inches of water. Most people were trudging thru & it was mid calf. There was 1 drain at the bottom near us that my DH & I pushed debree from several times. We tried to wait for the water to go down, but it just wasn't happening. No Disney staff around for about 15 minutes, even tho the boat captains had to see the situation. A few cast members finally showed up & just stood there looking. :confused3 Guests were trudging thru all that water with lightening still going on. Then we heard the CMs talking- apparently one of the small boats at the dock the Disney people use was taking on water & sinking!

DH & I finally got tired of waiting & we did as several others had done & straddled the curb along the path until we were past the water. We were wearing our ponchos, so except our feet, we were pretty dry. It is just unbelievable that Disney doesn't have better drainage in some of these areas. I understand tropical rains, but really, a few more appropriately placed drains would help an lot. Disney pulls their cast members away from pools etc, when there is lightening, but they have guests walking thru all this standing water.

We're in a room facing the boat dock & have a few inches of water on the balcony too. Well, hopefully it'll be better tomorrow!

I am right there with you! It was so nice meeting you! Glad to hear you had a great stay. We loved the BC so much and I've been home since Saturday and still missing it like crazy. Tikiman was on our flight home, so I got to meet him finally lol.

I keep saying the same things - "this time last week we were at AK and coming back to enjoy ice cream from Beaches & Cream." Ughh I can't wait to go back next Sept.
Nice meeting you too! That's great that you are going back next Sept!
Two of my kids got sick during this trip. One had a fever and really sore throat (he spent 3 days in bed) The other mostly sinus symptoms and coughing. She powered through and went to the parks, but felt lousy. So in a moment of insane "mom pity" I told them we could upgrade to AP's and come back for a BUDGET trip in Feb. So no BC for that trip but I'm looking forward to trying a different resort (hopefully with a deep AP discount). Since we won't be a family of 5, there will be more options.

Oh no that is awful! I swear I am shocked that I didn't get sick from the change of temperatures - going from the heat to the AC all day and from being in the rain a couple of times. Hooray for another trip in Feb though!

Disney needs to rebuild their paths and walking areas to include a good drainage system. That is inexcusable that they haven't fixed that area. We've been at the MK when sections of it had flooded to mid calf depth. There are all kinds of new ways to make permeable parking lots so that they drain better. And they look nicer than acres of concrete.

Your poor daughter. That had to have been disappointing for her. We only had one time in all our many trips with the kids that one of them got sick. And she got sick enough to go to the doctor and get antibiotics. That was nice of you to plan a redo. ::yes::

I hope to post a longer trip report soon but for now, just wanted to share a bit of BC Pixie Dust our family received
My DS19 stayed behind, sick in the room. When the maid came in to make up the room, he told her he was sick. She had a bowl of chicken soup sent up to him!! Total surprise to all of us! How nice was that???
That is a very nice story. :)

Please add us to the Be Our Guest List...

March 18-March 23 BCV
DW let me add on an extra day for our anniversary trip (no kids) and fly instead of drive thanks to Southwest credits.

Not to worry about the kids we're taking her kids for their first time this November. Staying at AK-Kidani, but BC is home.

:welcome:

Will do!

:woohoo:

We have never stayed at the Beach Club because we always stay at the Magic Kingdom Resorts. I booked a 1 night stay at the Beach Club for our arrival day/night before we depart for our cruise to the Bahamas/Castaway Cay the next day. I plan on getting the earliest flight possible or even an over night so that we can spend as much time as possible in the Yacht/Beach Club area. Really looking forward to Beaches and Cream and lounging in the lazy river. Maybe after the family sees the area we'll convert from the Magic Kingdom resorts. So excited to get to stay at the Beach Club if only for one night :-)

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1, Post 15.

What a great way to start your cruise vacation.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

:cool1:

We will be at Beach Club March 10-18th! I can't wait~~

Got it! Thanks!

:thumbsup2

Longtime lurker, first time poster. Sitting in YC lobby now waiting on our ride to the airport. This was our first stay here and we loved it. Only downside is I hate trekking over to Marketplace to fill my mug. The service there is SLOW and it feels like there is always 50 people crammed into a 10ft space. Otherwise, fantastic stay.

And all the mugs were handle less.

:welcome: and thanks for de-lurking. We appreciate the comments about your stay.

My questions are always so obscure, sorry, but here goes, just in case someone has info:

We have the DXDDP and our flight doesn't arrive until 8:20 pm. We would like to make dining plans for that night - we won't make an ADR, we just want have different scenarios - which is proving a little difficult with most restaurants closing at 10 pm (we may head to DS but could be too tired for that). Had the idea of ordering BC room service but there is a late night menu after 10. I don't see appetizers or dessert on the late night menu...I wondered if we are just out of luck on that (it is what it is) or if anyone has happened to order late night using dxddp and been able to receive the starter or dessert?
ESPN club is open until 1am. And you most likely won't need to make reservations (which is a new thing there anyway). That way, if plans fall through you won't have to worry about a cancellation charge.

We were some of those that took off our shoes. I had on sandals & was slipping. Finally, I just took them off. We waded through all that high water you were talking about. It really wasn't that bad. Our DD had fun. We thought it was fun too. I mean if you have to walk through water like that, it's better at Disney.

YES! That's exactly what we said was the cause of them getting sick. Picked up a germ from somewhere but the hot to bone-chilling cold reduced their immune system enough for the bug to take over. On our first park day (Sun) it rained late afternoon, so we got a bit wet. We went to dinner in Yak n Yeti and it was like eating in a walk-in refrigerator! Even DH was freezing and he is known for liking the ac cranked up!

We just returned from a week long stay (sat-sat) at BC CL and it was amazing! The staff was wonderful and so very helpful. Neil even went out of his way to make a name badge to go with my husbands MNSSHP costume. We absolutely loved SAB, spent most afternoons here since it was so hot outside. We were in room 5659 so just a few doors down from the lounge which was very handy and we had a wonderful view. Transportation was great, never waited more than 10 mins for a bus or boat. We will definitely be back in the future

Thanks for letting us know about your trip. So glad to hear you had a great time!

:goodvibes

I'm jealous. We're there around the same time, but don't check in until the 15th, so still two more days until FP+

We're in the same boat. My in-laws don't check in until two days after us and my DMIL (I won't say what the D stands for) is insistent that she has to ride on FEA with the kids or else the whole vacation will just be ruined.

That sounds like fun! ;)

So here's my advice that you didn't ask for. Make the FEA FP for a day she will be there, in addition to an earlier day if you will be at EPCOT. If you can't get her a reservation when booking her FP, you can send her with your MB and your kids and her vacation will hopefully be salvaged.

Writing now from BC :) We've been here for a week and we'll leave friday. it was an incredible stay, We loved the beach club and everything was perfect! great cast members, always happy and helpfull (the cast members in the marketplace were really nice!)
Our room was 4540, quite a standard room with a wood view. Plenty of space, super clean and the bed were really comfy ^^ (from the balcony was also possible to see the fireworks!)
SAB it's really a nice pool, we never found any crowds there.
The gym is really nice, you can find all what you need and it's super clean!

Cape may cafe was a nice place, we tried it both for dinner and breakfast. I prefer it for breakfast, but it's just me eheh :) when we went for the dinner we had a little issue, we waited almost 40 minutes and after we discovered that the pager they gave to us was not working...but that was the only issue.

The parks were not crowded at all, we never waited in line for more than 20 minutes. And we always found new FP after the initial 3 were gone (seem that finding a FP for space mountain is really easy).

the only things that annoied me was the bus way for the water parks....going to Typhoon lagoon is easy, but changing at animal kingdom to go to blizzard beach was really a pain...

Thanks for checking in and enjoy the rest of your stay!

That's when you know the dining plan is just too much. You start dreading the desserts!

:lmao:

Just got home at midnight last night. Suffering from BC withdrawl.
This afternoon, as I was doing laundry, I thought, "24 hrs ago I was floating around the Lazy River in Storm Along Bay"

Sorry you had to deal with some illness during the trip. That is never fun. We had one trip when my son was too sick one day to go to the parks. I stayed at the resort (All Star Music) and read Harry Potter to him while Mark and Ben were at HS doing Jedi training.

The silver lining is we did a makeup trip the next summer, our first at the BC.

That is so nice of the thoughtful mousekeeper!

UGH!!! I'm trying to find a photo of my son in sandals in a big puddle at EPCOT, but I can't remember which trip it was from. Drainage really does need to be improved around the parks and resorts.

My baby niece caught a cold as well. Luckily it started as we were leaving on the very last day. She has a cough, sneezing and runny nose. I am so thankful it didn't happen in the middle of the trip, I would have felt horrible for her. Her doctor didn't give her anything because it is not in her chest and she has no fever. They said it should go away on it's own soon. She is 17 months old and has never been sick until now. We also think it was because of being in the hot and cold, but she also kissed A LOT of germy character noses! LOL

Doing a little too much of this! But it made for adorable pictures lol

Aww adorable pic!!
Yes, most likely viral (my kids too) so no need for antibiotics (they won't do anything anyway against a virus) since her healthy immune system will get her over it naturally! Good that it didn't ruin her 1st trip! I saw and heard LOTS of congested babies and toddlers while we were there and I felt so badly for them and their parents!

We will be booking in a couple months for our August 2017 trip. Do all the first floor rooms have a patio or will that need to be a special request if we choose first floor as one of our options?

I never assume that the BC has any kind of consistency when it comes to patios and balconies. ;) In other words, it is safe to assume that not all ground floor rooms have a patio. But I'm sure that most of them do.

Thanks for answering! ESPN is our Plan Z, but it may come to that. This is our first - and probably only - adult trip and ESPN isn't exactly how I envision starting it (have I mentioned we hate most sports? LOL).

Considering taxi right now, but I think we would have to go directly from airport to DS, because we would still miss out on (most) of BW restaurants though we could just squeak in for regular room service menu. Have to research if DME still delivers luggage if you don't get on bus (I know they used to. I never tried it and don't feel great about it, but...desperate).

Decisions. :)

ESPN Club has lots of TVs set to sports events, but, other than that, is not overwhelming with the sports theme. There is a very sizeable menu and food/pricing are decent.

I believe that ME will only accept luggage (for delivery to your hotel room) if you ride on the motorcoach going to the resort, and only up to 10:00 p.m. After 10:00 p.m., luggage must be with you on the bus.

Actually, according to a sizable thread on the transportation board - where I first read about it - my considered plan would work fine although it is, of course, at my own risk. As I said, it is one option, but not optimal for various reasons. Thanks for replying.

Arrived at YC around 8:30 this am. My room wasn't ready but I didn't expect it to be. Stored my luggage with BS and off to Epcot. There was a slight line at IG but not bad, maybe 10 min. I wish they had a no bag line, as I didn't have bags, but since I got there at just about rope drop I'm not complaining. Walked to Soarin and it was about a 15 min. wait, rode it The Land, Nemo and SSE then found the AP glass check in area, went to Festival Center and looked around, wandered around WS until my 1 food and wine pairing meal at Spice Road Tables. Excellent meal, more food and wine then one little woman could consume. I got my room ready text around 10. Pictures posted above. After my meal walked back to the resort to find my room and am resting a little until I head out again. Not sure what I'm doing this afternoon/evening but I'm sure food and wine will be involved. YC is perfect as always. I did notice that I wasn't greeted by name when I walked into the lobby like they used to but other wise my room is great and CMs are great as usual. I'll probably explore a little now to find the closest stairs to my room and find where the quiet pool is in relation to my room.
