Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

I have not read anywhere the boats are not running, has anyone heard this? We will be there 7/29-8/4 and one night we will be going from Magic Kingdom to Fort Wilderness for Hoop de Doo and we always take the boat to get there....

Has anyone used the spa at The Dolphin resort? I am thinking on our last day to treat myself. Any suggestions on services as well?

It's possible that Disney only suspended the boats whilst the police search was ongoing.

We did see a couple last year from the friendship boats going from MK to WL and back again. It was not that surprising since there is a nature reserve close by down there. We were told they kept monitoring them and remove them when they either get to 4ft long or started to be aggressive or a nuisance to park guests.

I have always trusted Disney to keep a close eye on the wildlife problems at WDW, that said we also have to be aware that 'gators can find their way into any body of water that's not surrounded by high fencing. Water snakes are also a worry for me but not to the extent where it makes me stress out over them. I know any reported sightings are taken completely seriously there too. Maybe for our next visit though we will avoid the " mouse boats" as DH calls them or Sea racers ... it can't hurt.

I have been to Captain's Grille for breakfast (1), lunch (1) and dinner (3). I have reviews of some of these visits on Page 1, Post 7 (Dining). We like the food, service and convenience of the Captain's Grille. The theming is understated and it is rarely crowded. As mentioned above, there are discounts if you use your Disney Visa (breakfast and lunch only?)

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list for July.

:cool1:

Thanks for this. I add the operating hours for SAB to Page 1, Post 2, when guests report them. Do you know the current opening time for SAB?

I am curious about whether the hours will be expanded this weekend with all of the "June 17" openings and start of the summer season.

See you around SAB!

:cheer2:

:welcome: to the thread and thanks for the helpful info.

:wave2:

Thank you so much for the fantastic review and awesome pictures!

::yes::

Thank you for your continued updates.

I appreciate you reporting about the lounge takeout  and for asking about the kids meals. That is what I thought.

:magnify:

Have a fantastic trip!

:yay:

When is your trip?

:cool2:

:welcome: back!

I'll pencil you in on the Be Our Guest list.

:woohoo:
We arrive BCV on 7/2/16 and stay until 7/13/2016

Regarding the horrible tragedy that took place at the Grand Floridian - my heart breaks for a family that will never be the same. There are a number of threads here on the DIS to discuss what happened and to express sympathy and compassion. I am not going to encourage discussion or debate here, but here is my input about how this relates to the Yacht & Beach Club resort.

In any body of freshwater in Florida, assume that there are dangerous things. Gators, snakes and dangerous parasites.

Please heed warnings to stay out of the water. Swimming and even wading or playing in the water is not safe.

In most cases I recommend minding ones own business, but if you see people in waterways at Disney, I don't think it would be out of line to remind them that this is not a wise thing to be doing.

Gators have been spotted in the waterways near the Yacht & Beach resort. Pictures were posted last year of a gator that was in the BCV canal. I remember seeing reports of alligators spotted in Crescent Lake and in the water between the resort and Hollywood Studios. I have heard a story of a large alligator sunning in the parking lot.

Disney is an extremely safe place, but that doesn't mean you don't need to pay attention and be smart.

I want all of my friends to be safe!

ETA: Please do not feed wildlife at Disney, or elsewhere. Wild animals will lose their fear of humans if they associate them with food. Many of you have probably encountered aggressive birds at Disney who are looking for handouts because they are accustomed to being fed by guests.

Thanks for the wise words! And absolutely people need NOT to feed the wildlife. Stay safe everyone.

Is there any credible information on when/if the water transportation will reopen? I'm trying to decide on a resort for a quick trip at the end of July. Group would probably really enjoy proximity to EP and HS. I know walk is quick to EP, but not so quick to HS if boats are not running. Thanks!
The boats run daily usually one hour before the parks open until one hour after they close. The only time they stop running is when there is lighting and other weather related reasons. Buses are provided if the boats aren't running. :)

I love the people on this thread. Everyone is being respectful and kind and no one is freaking out or being mean.

Thank you Dee and everyone else for being the BEST THREAD ON DISBOARDS!

This a thousand times. If I see another new gator thread posted with someone's two cents about how they'd do things better or arguing about the meaning of "no swimming," my head might explode. I commented a few times earlier yesterday and just gave up because it was clear people were only interested in expressing their superiority. I can only think these people have never had to bury a child or attend the funeral of one.

This has been just such a sad year for so many. One of my daughter's close friends lost a battle with cancer last month (she was 12). We stayed at the Poly a few weeks before that and I brought back a baby Stitch for her (it's wrapped in a blanket with a Hawaiian-ish print) and picked up an extra lei to put around his neck. She loved Stitch and went to Hawaii for her MAW trip. We never had the chance to give it to her. I said Amara could keep it or give it to Emilia's parents. Amara chose to keep it and sleeps with it at night. Devastating for her family and her friends are heartbroken. Then the bombing at Pulse followed by that poor little boy dying at the GF. I'd just sort of like this year to end early.

I'm sorry for the sad and off-topic rambling, but it's true that when I stop in here the "welcome home" feels real.

It's okay tarak! I'm somsorry about Amara's friend. The Stitch doll must be a comfort to her. This past week has been a tough one, for sure. I can't look at any more opinions on the gators. Like you said, this is a nice, comfortable home sort of place.

Thank you. I swear, I've cried more in the last month than at any time in my life, including when my father died. Granted, I'm a complete goober and I cry at Hallmark commercials.

I was wondering the same thing. Anyone done the one at YC or GF? We want to do a couples massage and I was looking for opinions so we can pick one of the three spas.

Anyone have any suggestions for a limo or town car service from the airport? We usually rent a car but for just the two of us it seems like a waste. We've taken the Magical Express before but would prefer to be able to go directly to the resort. We always seem to be the last drop off! Thanks for any info!

We use happy limo. Great on time drivers and free grocery stop. Haven't Had the nicest newest vehicles but on time, friendly, reliable etc. I used them the last few trips and also had them bring a car seat for our toddler. We were very pleased.

We've used Happy Limo and been pleased each time. I also highly recommend Tony Hinds. He was recommended to me over on the Universal subforum. Our last two trips, we went to Universal before heading to WDW. He charged us $100 total to pick us up at MCO, take us to Universal, and then take us from Universal to WDW. His email is aobh607@gmail.com. I hope it's okay to post that - the email has been posted over on the Universal transportation thread, as well.

We have used Ed Korgan travel for 4 trips between MCO and Universal and Universal and Disney.

I have also heard positive things about Tiffany Town Car.

Soooo to lighten the mood?

Remember I was asking for advice on wearing a cute dis tank/shorts to the lounge bc they were Jammie's? Apparently I had nothing to worry about bc we saw a handful of Brazilian bikini bottoms at SAB!! Dupahs hanging all out for the kids to see ay yi yi

Never too soon to lighten the mood. Sometimes there is just nothing you can do to make something better, but bringing a smile to someone's face is always welcome.

I will join you- here is a story of my late night swim at SAB in non-traditional swimwear. Includes some night pictures of SAB.

Thank you for the kind words, and I want to add my appreciation for everyone here for not going down the dark paths that pop up too quickly.

Tara- my thoughts are with you and your family for the difficulties of this year.

April is a hard month for us. Pop had a stroke this year (fortunately a "mini-stroke &that's recovered well) and is the anniversary of losing Mom. Topped with I was sick (for over a month) and have been physically and mentally exhausted. The past week has been difficult, living in Orlando area. Hearing about your daughter 's friend just makes me want to hug you and your daughter. So I am sending mental hugs, which are safer since I think that sinus infection is back again.
Like others, I love this thread where even in times of sadness, love and friendship shine through. Thanks to all!
Sarah
