Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

AND....what is the best water view room?? Bonus pixie dust for pictures of the room/view!

I just returned from a long weekend and stayed at the YC for the first time, after many stays at the BC. I will post detailed info and pics, when there is more time, but a few bits of info, for right now:

The refurbished 5th floor Lounge at YC is opening this week. CMs at the YC say that the 1st-4th floor room refurb is scheduled to begin early Spring 2016, and not finish till late fall/early winter 2016.

Work is still going on at YC front entrance, meaning that all busses, including ME, are moved to YC Convention Center - about a 3-4 minute walk from front entrance of YC. I noticed EPCOT busses stop at EPCOT resorts, though I did not see anyone board or get off. There is not an electronic transportation board installed, yet, at either YC or BC. There is one at Grand Floridian. Though nice in theory, I saw the times updated about five times, while awaiting a bus to one of the parks.

The pick-ups for the parks still originate at the YC. The bus would fill up at YC, meaning that it turned into an express bus, with no other stops, before the MK, etc. The ME originated at YC, then, in order of other stops, BC, BWI, and CBR, before heading to MCO. The only stop at MCO is the "B" side.

The decorations (train at YC and gingerbread carousel at BC) were wonderful! IMHO, they were more special than Grand Floridian's large display, though its tree was very tall. You can actually smell the gingerbread in the BC lobby.

The resorts and parks were very busy over the past weekend. Disney resorts were at capacity. It looks like the crowds will be a little lighter over the next weekend, before the crowds pick up for Christmas vacation time.

Though I do love the BC, I found the YC to be very nice and would not hesitate to stay again. The environment is much more sedate, than the BC.

The Bounceback offer for both the YC and BC, room only, is 30%.

Best part for last...had long visit with Teena, prior to ME pick-up.

I will post pics and more info, when I have time.

all that is open for my bounce back is to arrive on a wednesday for 6 nights in July for a garden woods view if i arrive the day before it is water view for $400 more!! just don't want to miss out on extra magic hours but that $400 could get us an extra park day!! thinking about adding another day somewhere else but I think I would have to buy a dining day for one day to get the mugs started

Thank you for your extensive review. We will be at YC CL the end of May and look forward to experiencing the new lounge!

This makes me a bit nervous - we're there mid August and I realllly want a new room...
I stayed at the BC several times, while their rooms were being refurbished. They started on the 5th floor, and worked their way down to the first floor. I was never disturbed or inconvenienced, at any time. The construction areas were blocked from public access.

When you place special requests for your guest room, you can request a refurbished room, if you wish.

I personally do not believe that you have anything to be concerned about...just think about the great time you will have! By August, a great percentage of the project should be complete.

Oh my goodness! I am getting so excited. We check in to the BC on 12/29. This will be our first trip at New Years. We stayed at the BC one other time and LOVED it. Originally started out with staying at Coronado Springs but DH finally said to change to BC so we would be closer to Epcot on NYE so he could walk back if the crowds go to him. Spending 8 nights there, then DH and 2 teen DDs go home and my sister and niece join me at POP for 4 nights for my niece and I to run in the Half Marathon. This will be my longest trip ever to WDW and I am so excited and ready for this new adventure!

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1.

Sounds like a fantastic trip!

:cool1:

Loved the Decorations at both the BC and YC! It was also nice to visit with Teena this past weekend. Sad to go home tomorrow, but miss my family.

Thanks so much for sharing your awesome pictures of the resort decorations!

:thumbsup2

Does Beach Club have the new bus times board at the bus stop?

Not that I have heard, and confirmed by another poster below.

::yes::

"Best" waterview is hard to determine for someone else. Some might like a Boardwalk view while others may prefer looking out on Stormalong Bay or the quiet pool. For me, the best room would be one with a full balcony, and a daybed if I am staying with my kids.

We have a thread on the Community boards with views and room descriptions posted from a sample of rooms. That may help you determine what you want to request, although we recommend not asking for a particular room number. Let the room assigners know the attributes of the room that are important to your family.

It sounds like it makes a lot of sense to check in someplace else for the first day to save on the total cost of your trip. You could always book room only and pay for your drinks out of pocket for that one day if you don't want to get the dining plan on your arrival day. Then start your mugs when you check in for the rest of your stay.

Just returned from my trip to YC concierge level. A few notes:

We stayed in the CL standard view room #5216. The view wasn't bad, mostly trees.

The renovated concierge lounge is almost ready. I tried to sneak a few pictures for you, but I sort of got caught and the pictures were all blurry. They have taken an adjacent guest room and turned it into counters for serving the food. The old lounge area looks very open and full of tables. The cabinets and trim are a nice bright white. The flooring where the food is served is a pretty charcoal tile with a sort of wood looking grain. The bathroom across the hall has been made larger and has a pretty tiles on the wall. Of course this was all I could see from the few times the workers left the doors open.

The main YC entry is still under construction, so all buses use the convention hall entrance. It's a longer walk to get to the buses. I have been coming to YC the last four years at this time of year. This is the first year I have noticed a considerable wait for buses. The first day we waited 30 minutes for a Magic Kingdom bus. We watched 2 Disney springs and 2 Animal Kingdom buses come and go before the first MK bus arrived. Every bus we rode was filled with people. People always had to stand. Did they cut down on buses to YC/BC??? I felt bad for the BC people. The YC would fill the buses before they even went to BC.

The holiday decorations in YC and BC are beautiful. Everywhere in Disney this time of year seems just a little more magical.

Dining - we had the most amazing dinners at Cinderella's Royal Table, Le Cellier, La Hacienda de San Angel and Teppan Edo.

I think that's about it. :)

Thanks so much for the report, ShannyG! We appreciate your effort at the stealth pictures. ;)

Can't wait to see what the lounge looks like when it opens.

Thanks also for the bus info. That does stink about the long waits and crowded buses. Wouldn't mind hearing from some folks staying at the BC around this time to let us know their experience.

Glad to hear you enjoyed La Hacienda- that was one of our favorites on the last family trip.

Just a question that I haven't found the answer to and don't have a lot of time (final exam season :badpc:) But when will the YC CL lounge be open? Have a scheduled trip on the 29th and am curious if it will be open?

That makes me feel better - when we did Beach Club this past August, they were finishing the bottom floor so we had requested an upper floor and were fine...I don't care about construction anywhere else in the resort - obviously, since we also stayed at the Poly ;) - I just really want a refurbished room.
