Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

Has anyone seen the fabrics and/or choices that will be in the new rehab of YC? Are they posted anywhere, or is it too early? I love YC and am looking forward to a fresh palette and change. I hope it's elegant and befitting a Yacht Club. :snooty: :boat: :smooth:

We have not. We don't usually have a sneak peak of the rooms prior to them opening for occupancy. I have heard rumors that one of the reasons the start of the renovation is taking so long is that they can't get all the levels of the decision makers to agree on the design and décor.

Interestingly, my band of monkeys went on a quest to see some sample hallway décor in August 2015 and we found a portion of the mock-up of room exterior, but we don't know if that design was approved or rejected:

Just returned from a 9-night stay at Yacht Club (our first at YC!). The location can't be beat, and we loved being able to walk to Epcot and Hollywood Studios, along with exploring the Boardwalk area. (FYI, the ice cream at Ample Hills Creamery is to die for!)

Stormalong Bay is great, and we didn't have too much trouble with getting chaise lounges in the afternoon. We enjoyed the lazy river, but we were a little concerned about the number of very young swimmers without tubes or life vests in the river portion. It's difficult to "control" the tubes, so it was a little nerve-wracking trying to avoid "running over" the tiny swimmers. We were impressed by the lifeguards, and every afternoon we saw at least one guard jump into the water to help a struggling swimmer. The guards are vigilant and quick to respond, which was reassuring.

We had a fabulous meal at Yachtsman Steakhouse and a less-than-stellar dinner experience at Captain's Grille. Thank goodness for Beaches and Cream! We were able to get ice cream to fill us up after leaving hungry from CG!

As for the room, it was clean, and mousekeeping did a very nice job each day. The room showed quite a bit of wear and tear: marks on the wallpaper, loose wallpaper seams, nonfunctioning lights, rusty spots on chrome fixtures, stains on the carpet, broken or missing decorative pieces on mirrors, etc. Obviously YC is overdue for a refurb, and it's a little disappointing to pay deluxe prices for a room that is not in deluxe condition.

That being said, we would stay at YC again, especially after a refurb.

I have printed off a bunch of different disney packing lists I have found. What is something you always take that some people wouldn't think of? I have disposable rain panchos, moleskin, and the usuals. Do you buy special socks for moisture wicking?

Cooling towels!!! They are a God send in the summer! Get the large size (31x13)on Amazon and cut the in two (long ways, to hang around your neck). They keep you cool without getting your clothes wet, and they fold up nice and small for tucking in your bag! So you basically get four for $10.99 (after cutting them). :welcome:

Let us know if you end up booking a stay.

Yes, we believe the rehab has been pushed back to November or later but we haven't seen anything official from Disney.

I have no experience with parking at the resort, but others have answered your question.

::yes::

We did book for 8/23 - 9/1 and are super excited since we've never even visited any of the Epcot resorts in this area. We've stayed at POFQ and POR our last two trips.

Can't wait to check out YC, SAB and be able to walk to World Showcase (my favorite part but DH and DS are usually grumpy about all the walking from the front entrance of Epcot multiple times. Now I can get them there faster :)

We drive so we have a huge list of things we like to bring. One of my favs is a bottle of foaming hand soap (or we sometimes just pick it up at the store once we get there). I can't stand bars of soap to wash hands. And BTW, I was at Bath and Body Works the other day and they had a hand soap called Beach House and I picked it up. I swear it smells just like the lobby in the beach club. There was also one called Sparkiling Seas sitting next to it with a yacht steering wheel on it. Yacht Club maybe? Couldn't remember the yacht club scent but definitely worth checking out. We will be there in two days  so I will let you know for sure. After all, we haven't been there since January and maybe it's been so long that I have forgott the smell:rolleyes1

Also, not sure where you are getting your list from but there was a thread on the boards that posed your exact question and it got a lot of interesting responses.
AWESOME! I will have to look and see if I can find it! Thank you and great ideas!

And because I don't believe in doing something without overdoing it- here is the info I have in Post 14: Other Useful Info

I'll have to add the link EasternShoreGal mentions...

Happy reading!

Do you have any packing tips?

Packing bottles of liquid (adult beverages) in checked luggage

And a couple from natebenma:

If you are bringing more than 1 suitcase, make sure you have at least one outfit for each traveler in each piece of luggage. If one bag gets lost, at least everyone will have something to wear.

Legos- these are my sons' favorite souvenirs. In order to get our haul home after a trip to the Lego Store, I open the box and pack the individual bags in our suitcases. Much less bulky. If you want to save the box, you can flatten and put a the bottom of your suitcase.

Essential items: Don't forget the chargers/batteries for your phones and cameras. A booklight if you will be reading out on the balcony in the early morning hours. Ziplock bags of all sizes! Many many uses for these. Swim goggles. Moleskin to help prevent blisters from forming. Glide body stick for chafing issues.

HOLY GREAT LINKS BATMAN! Thank you!!!! I cannot wait to look at all of these!

We just returned from our first Beach Club stay. What a lovely resort! Thanks to this incredibly informative thread, we knew all the ins and outs of the resort. We alternated park touring with lots of pool time; SAB was wonderful! The Memorial Day weekend brought out a big crowd, but pool loungers were plentiful for the rest of the week after the holiday. My youngest is having frozen lemonade withdrawals! He probably consumed about 20 of those things during our stay.

I wish I could say that we will be back soon, but my DH insists on spreading the vacation dollars around to other non-Disney places. :sad2: Hopefully we will be back in a couple of years. I'm so glad we gave the EPCOT side of Disney a try; it was a perfect stay at the Beach Club! Thanks so much to everyone who contributes to this thread!

Booking either the Yatch or Beach club level when the 2017 rates are released. Can't decide which one just yet!! Any info on the club level room views would really be appreciated.
Are the food offerings basically the same at both resorts?

Thanks for your help!!:thumbsup2

OMG!!! Take out muscles?! To enjoy poolside?! YES PLEASE!! Thank you SO MUCH for posting this info!! ...I'm obviously just a little excited about this...

I know... right? My favorite poolside "take out muscles" is Matthew McConaughey but Zac Efron will do nicely in a pinch. Of course
Chris Pratt and Johnny Depp are welcome to save me a towel and a lounge chair too...

We just returned from our trip. We stayed at CBR our first night before transferring to YC for 7 nights. We paid for a water view room at CBR but were upgraded to a preferred room at Martinique Bldg 25. The view wasn't great, but being close to the food court was convenient, and we were close to the circle drive. Thanks to advice here, we downloaded the Uber app and received a free ride to YC using Uber XL. It was so easy and quick!

I stated earlier that we received our request at YC for a GV room facing the gazebo with a daybed. I requested extra bedding to make the daybed more comfortable. Our room was in perfect condition, not showing any signs of age whatsoever (Rm #3091) and no creepy picture of the sailor! We only requested mousekeeping service one day. The other days we hung the DND sign and just asked them to take our garbage and give us more coffee and new towels. All the mousekeepers we saw in the hall were very friendly and helpful. I tipped them a couple times and at the end of our stay.

This week was much more crowded than the first week of June in years past but we still had a great time. FP+ lines were sometimes lengthy, but taking cold bottled water with us saved the day. The bus wait time screen is so nice! We were going to call for an Uber driver the morning of our early morning day at MK for our 8:10 reservations at Crystal Palace, but we saw that a MK bus was 5 minutes away at 7:00 a.m., so we just took the bus. This was also a morning they offered the special early entry to Fantasy Land. I have to say that we were so glad we had reserved a FP+ several months ago for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. It was a 25-30 minute wait even with a FP+! I believe it was a 180 minute wait standby!! and this was at 10:00 a.m.

We went to Disney Springs via bus a couple times in the evening. Again, we considered Uber, but the screen said a bus was on its way. We never waited more than 10 minutes for a bus the whole week. This is the first time we have stayed at YC where the bus serviced just the YC and BC. Usually it started at Swan, then Dolphin, YC, BC and then BW.

We did laundry our last day at the quiet pool. I am surprised that they only have two washers inside and only three outside at the quiet pool. For this size of a resort. you'd think they would have at least six washers in one location. One night while walking to EPCOT, we checked the laundry facility at the BC quiet pool. If anyone is interested, there are four washers there and I believe eight dryers.

Ginny65-

I'm so glad to hear your Yacht Club room was in great shape. We're trying to decide between the Yacht or Beach and I've read so many reviews that say the Yacht Club rooms are in bad shape so this helps a lot.

Thanks for your review!!

Carla - to us, being guaranteed a full balcony is far more important than having some wear and tear on our room, but that is just us. I mean when owning a home, you realize wear and tear happens, but that doesn't mean you move. Wear and tear adds character, right?! lol The only thing that we noticed that really needed attention at this resort is the hallway carpets. We could see where either bleach was spilled in a few spots or color was taken out of the carpet due to a clean-up. That being said, we wouldn't think twice about staying at the YC. We just love everything about it.

:welcome: to the thread!

I directed you to the room view threads in your other post. I hope you find them useful.

Yes, the food offerings are essentially the same.

Post 12 on this thread has lots of info about the club level at the resorts, including pictures of the lounges and the food.

Post 16 has some links to comments about the condition of the YC. The consensus seems to be some wear and tear but in general the rooms are not in terrible shape. There are also a few reviews from recent guest in the last 3-4 pages of this thread that I haven't linked yet.

:goodvibes
