Sounds like you have some great plans! I can't wait to go back in August and am anxiously awaiting out FP window. We did pirates and pals on out last trip and loved it! It was a highlight.We can't wait; we will be there Friday!
I have a sub to Touring Plans and am using their room fax request. I'm requesting one of the bunk bed rooms (I reserved/paid for a bunk room) on the 5th floor North Wing farthest from the lobby as our first preference. I will post again when we get there to share how it turned out in case anyone has interest in the Touring Plans fax service.
Thanks to the incredible tips on the DIS - among a zillion other things - I booked this wonderful resort, I have breakfast stuff, a few snack things and drinks arriving from Garden Grocer, all my FPs booked (including A&E that came up at the 45 day mark (whew)), a few great ADRs, Pirates and Pals reserved one night, ponchos and sandals for when it rains, blister stuff for our toes, taking a day "off" from the parks - and afternoons at the resorts as needed. I also got a slamming deal on a Sony action cam, which I've found is a highly divisive topic on the DIS (I will be very cognizant of not bopping people on the head with it or blocking anyone's view).

We had a woods view room, room number 3104, in the south wing facing the villas, near the bus stop. We really liked that room. The lobby is on the 2nd floor and this room was on the third floor. There was a staircase right across the hall from the room that came out right near the Mercantile and the exit to the bus stop and villas. It was a great location because you were close to the lobby and bus stop. It was one of the quietest rooms we have had, too. Our room was over the Cubs Den and this was our view:
There aren't any studios that connect. The best you could get would be close to each other. Since you rented points I think you have to go through whoever you used to make your requests.
The train room is used as the community room for the villa. It is open all the time and they use this room to show the nightly movies in when they can't use the beach. We love this room. It has tables with games like checkers, and four huge leather rocking chairs in front of the fireplace. It is a very comfortable room.
When we were there in January we saw a sign that there was going to be a tour of the stables at 2pm or 2:30pm. I don't know much about the tour. The stable area opens at 10am, I think, if you just want to walk around on your own. We like to walk over there from WL for the breakfast buffet at Trail's End, which is delicious, by the way. They also serve a regular table service lunch and a dinner buffet.

The last two times we have stayed at the WL, last Oct and this past January, there has been a coffee urn located in the dining room of Roaring Forks. It doesn't say that the coffee is complimentary, but it does look like it is.
Roaring Forks has coffee and it is conveniently located on your way to the boat dock. You can also ask housekeeping to leave extra coffee packets in your room.
Yes, they do have the smaller bikes with training wheels. They also have adult bikes with child seats on them.
BUT if they have small ones he could pedal his own! Might be fun to bike to FW and do breakfast and wander around.
