Disney's Walk Around the World bricks

I've posted this before, but I'm too lazy to look it up... :)

Late Spring/Early Summer 2007, someone found out that the Walk Around The World program had reopened to "fill in" bricks at various locations, mostly right in front of MK. The new price was $300 (it was $95 originally - but since they wouldn't be doing lots of bricks in a single location, the overhead was probably a lot higher).

Someone posted on here in a thread that they were taking new orders, and it spread like wildfire. I was among those who signed up and paid for a brick.

But everything started to fall apart. It was hard to get information (the CMs did not work full time for the program - they had other jobs). People who had paid but did not get confirmation of a brick were getting e-mails that the program had been canceled and they would receive a refund later as well as information from WDW Communications. Some of those then also received confirmations of getting a brick. It was all very confusing.

I was able to get hold of one of the CMs (Roger), and had a couple of good conversations with him (he even called me back while he was working over at POP once). Although he couldn't get specific about some stuff (with regard to the sudden cancelation, he said "People think we know more than we really do..."), I did learn a few things.

- The CMs were the ones pushing to re-open the program, to fill in all the blank bricks spread throughout the Walk.

- They got the OK to do so, and the sudden response was enormous (at least partly due to it getting out on the DISboards - they knew it must have gotten out somehow since it wasn't advertised other than at the booth outside MK.) This overwhelmed them a bit.

- Someone higher up in the chain told them to stop. No explanation was given.

- Those that got confirmations would get the bricks, but there were so many it was going to take time. The bricks were custom-ordered and engraved from a company in Wisconsin. They got a shipment once a month (mime was ordered in July I believe, and received in September). They would be set in the Walk "when possible". It turned out to be a very unusually wet summer/fall, making brick-laying slow.

- Those not yet charged for them would not receive them.

- He hoped that they'd again be able to re-open the program at a later date.

We did receive a brick, and it had been placed by our December family trip, but it was a bit of adventure finding it. I had requested one at the Poly (it was the first resort we stayed at with both kids), and got a location of "P1A", and the map was highlighted over by the Luau Cove. So we walked over there, and go all the way to the Floridian and back - there is no P1A! In fact, P1A didn't even seem to exist as a location!

I went to Guest Relations over at MK, to find out that it was actually over on the TTC side of the Poly. There was no P1A location, so they apparently put it anyplace there was a space. We went back later that day and found it.

Ours is easy enough to spot - it's the only one in that section (and as far as I know, in the entire walk) that is rotated 180 degrees in relation to all the other bricks!

I'm not sure if it is ok to put his name and number up here but I will PM it to whomever needs/wants it.

Hi LilGMom, Can you please send me the contact info for the brick? I am not sure how the pm works? Thank you! :yay:

i would love any contact info as well if you can please. thanks.

You can either PM me (right click on my user name and go to PM option) or make it so that I can send you a PM. :hippie:

can you pm me the information as well. I have a brick now but with family changes would love to have another.

Put me on the PM list if possible please. I'd love to get one for our family.

Could I get a PM with the info too? We are getting married in WDW and I think a brick (if they do restart the program) would be perfect for us!

I would like to be added to that PM list, too, please and thanks!

Just got this note back from Guest Relations online Contact Us team.

'At this time no announcement has been made regarding your inquiry.
The next time that you visit us, please visit Guest Relations in the
Magic Kingdom to see if this has changed.'

A glimmer of hope then.....

would love to add another brick to our collection! we have 2 from 1994 right in front of the magic kingdom's entrance!

i would love to be added to a list to possibly get a brick someday!

I hope everyone who wants a brick is able to get one.

We were one of the lucky few who got a brick last summer. It's directly infront of the MK, just outisde the turnstiles on the left entrance.

It was a hassle getting it, and getting info on it, but it's there.

Good luck to all.
