Just took my 4 DD to see "The Wild". Don't waste your time or money! It was a mediocre hybrid of Madagascar meets Lion King meets Finding Nemo. It wasn't really cute or funny. I know Disney can't hit it out of the park every time, but the last few major animated releases have been WEAK.

Anyway, just thought I would give my fellow DIS'ers a heads up (and thumbs down). :sad2:

Thank you for sharing. I was on the fence, but now I am completely off and will wait for it to hit satellite.

We also went to The Wild last night. I thought it was cute. I had read in an article before we went that it was alot like Madagascar. The funny thing is is that everyone keeps saying it was a knock-off of Madagascar. The article stated that The Wild was in production long before Mad. but because The Wild took so much longer to produce, that is why it just came out. It took over 4 years to make The Wild. It is not animated, it is the kind like Shrek (don't remember what that is called!).
The story was similar, but cute. Yes, it is also similar to Nemo.

It was a good theme, don't lie to your kids, or put too much pressure on them.
Was it worth $40 we paid for admission? Probably not. But still good, and may buy it on DVD when it comes out.

Also has good celebrity voices-Don Cherry, Jeanine Garafalo, William Shatner, Kiefer Sutherland, Jim Belushi, Patrick Warburton (Kronk).

We went last night, too. My kids really loved it, but they really love seeing movies. No it wasn't of Finding Nemo stature, but I thought it had alot of funny/touching moments. They insist on seeing ALL Disney movies, that is the one thing we splurge on/ going to the theatre when a kid movie comes out.

Next is Over the Hedge...they can't wait. :woohoo:

I love all things Disney and my daughter and I always go check out the latest animated movies. Having said that, DD18 and I were disappointed with The Wild. The animation was technologically and visually stunning... we just didn't enjoy the story. I'm not that "into" the Madagascar story either, but I loved the side stories of the penguins and the lemurs. We didn't notice any great quotable lines in The Wild like there were in Madagascar (just about anything King Julian or the penguins said). The music was more like some good pop music played during a movie rather than some fabulous story-enhancing music being written "for" the movie.

We TRIED to like it... we really did. It just didn't do it for us.

Has anyone else noticed the plethora of animated movies about animals going from captivity to "the wild" (Madagascar, The Wild, Open Season) or wild animals adapting to new environments (Ice Age: The Meltdown, Over the Hedge)?

The animated feature we're most looking forward to is "Happy Feet"... we loved the trailers before the March of the Penguins dvd and The Wild movie.

I took my daughter to see "The Wild" on Friday, too. I thought it had its moments, but I found myself yawning through parts of it. My daughter, on the other hand, thoroughly enjoyed it. Oh well. I guess I can think of worse things that I spent $35 on, you know?

We took our 5 year old last night and he loved it!! As did it seemed most of the other kids by the laughing in theater.

our friends just asked us to go see it with them today, but we have to go to the inlaws so we couldnt go

We loved madagascar so much I dont know if the Wild would live up to it. Shame the 2 great COs had to compete with similar movies. :confused3 it does appear Disney Copied though we all know its usually Disney with the original ideas.

My sister, great nephew (6) and DD9 saw it last evening and really enjoyed it! When I go to see movies like this, as long as I hear laughter from DD, and she says she liked it or loved it, I feel it is worth the $$$$! Just my opinion! (She's seen Ice Age 2 three times - we saw it twice, and my sis took the two kids to see it before "The Wild" yesterday - they had a double feature evening!)

It's probably impossible to know who came up with the idea first. I read that these movies are in the planning stages for many, many years and even if Disney took longer to make theirs, Dreamworks might have had it in the planning stages even longer.

We really liked Madagascar. Unfortunately, most people I've checked with have slammed The Wild so we'll just wait until it comes out on video. I'm personally more interested in Scary Movie 4 anyway. :teeth:

Just got back from seeing the wild with my 3 DD's. My 8 and 4 year olds said they liked it, but my 12 year old and I did not. The movie was not very clever or funny; no one in the audience was laughing, other than the occasional quiet chuckle. I don't recommend seeing it and I won't be buying it on DVD.
