Disney's Reducing the Value of staying on property

Is there a reliable source that says early morning magic is moving to Sundays and Tuesdays? I have a ppo adr on a Sunday in July and wonder if I should move it to Wednesday. We only have one day at MK and I want to make it a good one.

The dates have been updated on the booking calendar (although the bookings themselves can't be made yet.)

They actually were bookable for about 5 min. DH asked me if I wanted to do it on the 18th, even though it's not something that appeals to me it does appeal to him. Since he asks for very little on our trips I decided to indulge him. I was able to book the 18th. But results stopped immediately after

I saw someone else was able to book a different day as well. Wonder how much it caught the IT crew off guard. :)

We stay on site because of location. EMH is irrelevant. I don't know how long it takes to get from an off site hotel to the MK gates. My guess is at least an hour. That makes on-site a winner winner chicken dinner.

Any idea when we will be able to book them?

Part of the reason OP sees fewer EMH is that none are currently posted for AK for december. I would expect that to change once the dust settles.

I don't feel disney is reducing / trying to take away anything. I also stay onsite, but avoid EMH for the most part. I love the other benefits I get - ME, 180+10 for ADR, 60 day FP window. Not needing a car. I love being in the disney "bubble". Would still stay onsite if there were no EMH.

Not true at all, there are many hotels of all ratings close to Disney, within 5 minutes of Disney property.

Just a thought - maybe think a bit before changing anything. Sundays will be probably better than Wednesdays at MK, crowd-wise, throughout July. Wednesdays have EMH and Sundays don't. Plus, many people go to MK on Saturday and don't want to go there two days in a row. I think the EMM would have less effect on your day than the crowd difference might.

Disney marketing claims another victim! Some offsite hotels are actually closer to some parks than some on-site hotels. Taking the Monorail or ferry from the TTC to MK vs. catching a bus at a resort is unpredictable - the offsite version might be faster, if your timing is lucky.

My gut ranking of perks that draw people on site.

1 Total Disney Experience
2 Location
3 Special Promotions
4 Early Fast pass booking
5 Early ADR bookings
6 Resort Quality
7 EMH

My uneducated guess is killing the Fast pass system would actually hurt bookings more than killing EMH.

I like staying on property for many reasons, but I like the EMH. Early morning EMH is great.
I like being able to ride a lot before the general crowd comes in.
I am also a night person, so late EMH are good for me too. Love the nights
when MK is open till 2am.

I can tell you that over the next 12-18 month, EMH is going to be significantly reduced. I'm not at liberty to say how, but some of the rumblings I heard were really not good. Makes you question if Disney will have the guts to go through with the addition of that $15 resort fee (which, I guarantee you, will not stay at that price point for long).

Exactly.

It probably costs a lot of money to open up the park an hour early with all the cast members ready to man the rides and shops.
But how many resort guests really attend them? So . .yes. Is it worth them to do that .. especially if EMH doesn't even mean that much to resort guests (meaning they are choosing to stay on resort for other reasons).

On my last trip, my MK day lined up with morning EMH. I insisted that my family and my in-laws get up early to get there.
My sister-in-law's family said 'no way' to getting up early and got there about 9:30 AM or so for our first Fast Pass (Belle).

I just couldn't fathom them not wanting to take advantage of such an empty time in the park, but they wanted to sleep in and not worry about getting their two toddler girls (2 and 4) ready before 7:00 AM .

In over 10 years we have never used EMH, morning or evening. We are early rises, but don't like rushing out while on vacation, and goodness knows I am neve in the park that late.

EMH doesn't affect the value for me. Last time I used EMH was 2012. We typically avoid the EMH park.

Now if value is found in convenience, then I'd agree some value has been lost. Advanced planning is difficult. As @yulilin3 posted yesterday, June hours just changed and we are in June. MK now opening at 8am instead of 9am on certain days.

That change affects the PPO ADR folks. It also may affect plans of guests who have been planning park strategy and ADRs for months. Although it increases value by adding an extra hour for park goers those days!

July is shaping up the same. My prediction is you will find the same last minute change in hours for December as well.

Only if you think EMH is a benefit to staying on site. Those who don't aren't loosing any value to their on site stay.

That's like a non-swimmer saying that resort pools aren't a benefit of staying onsite. They are a benefit, whether or not you choose to use them. The same thing goes for EMH.

For my wife and I we don't really make our plans around EMH............its not purposeful..........its just we make plans based on other things. To me Early Morning Magic is being at RD.............

If it's a benefit I don't use, I lose no value in losing that benefit. It only reduces the value of staying onsite for those who would have used it.

Been on 6 trips in the past 3 years, have never made it to any EMH.

But it doesn't reduce the value of staying on site. Reduce a benefit for those that choose to use it, sure. But not a value.
