Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

They gave us each a voucher for any quick service on property. That is good customer service to me.

Agreed, problems can occur anywhere, and with something of the scale of Walt Disney World must be happening all the time somewhere. It's how they fix it that counts. When we've had odd issues in the past they have followed up later (e.g. when we had to call an ambulance to take my wife into Celebration hospital due to sudden severe back pain) but I guess a lot depends on whether the person involved is on duty the next day. But things like free Lightning Lane passes or meal vouchers are common gestures.

We love Riverside and have had many, problem-free, trips. No resort is problem free, even deluxe ones. But nothing has stopped us from returning to Riverside. :)

We stayed there in August 2024 building 38. We loved it. We generally stay in mansion 85 but in August the AB pool was much quieter and cooler because of all the trees around it. Being at the North depot made a huge difference, going into the parks we were always the last ones to seat. Everyone coming in at East and South depot were standing. I would personally stay clear of the buildings near the west depot. Thats one of the spot where they put families with dogs. We had a few bad encounters while walking there or swimming in that pool. Lots of big dogs off leash. 2 Pittbulls jumped in the pool next to us, the owner could not control them. Everyone left the pool.
I had booked a pool view room for our trip last October. We were given building 24. Our room overlooked the quiet pool. We were close to the west depot and next to the laundry room.

The air conditioner was a lot noisier than the one in our sisters' room next door. We were finally able to get it a little quieter by turning it off for a period of time before turning it back on.
Personally, all of this sounds like a nightmare! We are staying at POR AB for the first time late February and this post makes me nervous. At all our stays at SSR, customer service was top notch! I am sorry you dealt with these issues. I would be livid about not getting 10.00 back.
We are staying at POR in less than two weeks. We're looking forward to another great trip.

There have been many times when it was cool enough outside to keep the air conditioner off.

Hi. Asking the experts! Am I correct that the quiet pools do not have hot tubs and the only hot tub is located at the feature pool? And if so, what is the best standard location 5th sleeper room request for being close to a hot tub and bus stop. Thank you.

Correct. The Standard Location 5th Sleeper building closest to the main pool is 38, and that's not too far from the North bus stop.

I know we'd need to request closer to our trip date (end of May 2026), but does POR have toddler bed rails? If so, would the bed rail fit on the 5th sleeper?

They used to, and yes they did fit the 5th Sleeper beds. But I hear they offer bed bumpers instead now, limited stock so first come first served.

I’m sure this has been asked and answered but don’t want to go through 519 pages.
Is the only drink refill station the qs food court? Or are there random refill stations among the buildings like at CBR? Standard soda or free style?
Thanks

Yes, the only free beverage refill locations at Riverside are in the main food court. Riverside still has fountain dispensers, French Quarter has Freestyle machines.

The soda dispensers at each section at CBR is a nice bonus (if working properly), I really wish the other moderates would have gotten them as well. Maybe FQ doesn't need it, but Coronado and POR would have benefitted. Really gives the refillable mug more value.

I finally got my vacation approval for July, I had two weeks booked not knowing which would be approved. Fortunately got the one with the better flight times. Put in a request for building 85.

We just got back a few days ago. We all were planning to stay at POFQ but my daughter and her husband switched to RIverside as they needed to bring their dog. I asked her to write a review - should I post it here, or should I do an individual post named "Bringing a dog to WDW" ?
Tx.

Here's her review - hope it's helpful!

My husband and I brought out 13 year old, 70lb dog to Port Orleans Riverside for 8 nights on a family trip in January, 2026. It was a last minute pivot since our dog is in her twilight years and we didn't feel comfortable leaving her.

Check-in: We arrived by car. My husband stayed in the car with the dog while I checked in. I paid the additional $50 dog fee while there - it was not charged in advance. We got a welcome bag with Pluto on it, with a food bowl, food mat, poo bags, as well as a special door sign. They didn't ask for vaccine records but we had copies if asked.

Room/Area: We got a first floor room, 8023, in Acadia House. While dogs are allowed on all the paths at the resort, we mostly kept her away from Ol' Man Island and the dining hall, yet there was still so much to explore. The lawn behind our room had a special can for dog poo and extra poo bags available. The room itself was a great size for her and there was no carpet which I appreciated. (We didn't have an accident but if we did, it'd be easier to clean!)

Daily service: We decided to keep the special "Room Occupied" sign on the door all the time. This meant no service for 8 nights. We did ask for clean towels from housekeeping twice. Other than having to make our own bed, I didn't miss service. The one time we needed trash taken, we left it outside the door (neatly in a closed bag). We could have arranged service during our afternoon walk but chose not to. We left a nice cash tip when we left because our dog sheds a lot.

Other guests: Lots of people at Riverside had dogs and everyone was very respectful during walks. We saw people walking their dogs mostly early morning and afternoon. The family in the room next to ours was friendly and enjoyed meeting our dog, but I would have kept our distance if asked! Every dog I saw was safely on leash and well supervised.

Room rules: Dogs are not allowed on the furniture. We brought her dog bed from home. We also brought a throw blanket for our bed, so in case she did jump on the bed she wouldn't dirty the sheets. However, the bed was quite high and this wasn't really a problem. Dogs also are not allowed to be alone for more than 7hrs. I'm not sure how they actually monitor this, but we adhered to it without trouble. They offer doggy daycare across the road if you wanna max park time. However, at 13yrs, our dog is not up to long hours of socializing with other dogs. If you do want to use daycare, I'd imagine you'd need a car for drop off/pick up.

Walks: We walked her in the morning before heading to the parks. My family took turns walking her in the afternoon. We got an extra room key card so my dad and brother could access the room. Her afternoon walk was usually 2pm. We scheduled our Lightning Lanes to max out mornings so afternoons were more flexible anyway. It wasn't too burdensome, as normally someone wanted to go back to the resort for a rest/the pool. Then we'd walk her again either once or twice in the evening, depending on if we had a late park night or not. For example, one evening we walked her before heading to Disney Springs, another day it was later after fireworks. The breaks in the day mostly happened naturally.

Overall: We've traveled everywhere with our dog, from the Grand Canyon to Boston to Vancouver. I commend Riverside for being truly dog-friendly. As the owners of a 50lb + dog, it can be hard to find hotels without weight restrictions. However, the resort is not dog friendly to the detriment of other guests or staff. Since we have an older, more "difficult" dog, I found the rules reasonable and helpful to create a safe environment for all guests/dogs. She loved chasing rabbits and squirrels, loved the lush grass, and friendly staff. We'd definitely stay there again with a pet.
