Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Weird question:

My wife is in to decorating the windows of our Disney hotel rooms. We will be taking a trip this September for MNSSHP and will be staying in the Alligator Bayou section of PO-R. In order to decorate the window, she has to have the measurements of the individual glass panes for the exterior windows. Could anyone help us with this information?

If I remember correctly, 36" wide x 60" tall.

Hey!

Has anyone stayed in a Royal Room recently. How are the looking ... in need of a refurb? I haven't heard of anything recently about them. Thinking of booking one in December. Only type I haven't stayed in at POR. TIA! =)

We had a free upgrade to a Royal room in Feb 2023. They haven't been updated yet. There aren't any USB ports or additional outlets. The TV is a smaller size than the other resort TV's. The floors were carpeted when we were there. I think they still have the old carpet. It needed to be refurbed, especially for the electrical stuff. I personally would wait until they have been refurbed. I felt like I had traveled back in time in that room. But the room was still cute. :)

Hey! Thank you so much. That is exactly what I was thinking. Ya take those new outlets for granted that's for sure. haha!!

Isn't that the point of a themed room? Surely we don't want them all to look like grey and white modern soulless chain hotels?

But I agree that the tech elements are a bit out of date, as these days people seem to want big TVs and USB sockets everywhere for all the gadgets we now need. Personally I'm actually not bothered much about the TV (I'm not going to Disney to watch TV!) but I do take my own higher-powered USB power supplies.

I agree with you. The Royal room was fun to stay in. The theme is very well done. I didn't care about the TV not being the newer Smart version. The only thing I didn't like was that they hadn't updated the available outlets. :)

Checked in yesterday for our first stay here. It is an absolutely beautiful resort. We booked 2 queen bed woods view purposefully not wanting the 5th sleeper. We went to front desk at arrival to check if our room was ready so we could either put our things away or drop off bags to luggage room. The very sweet woman at the front desk used her tablet and found us a ready room. As I looked to see what it was I noticed it was in building 28. I said “wait is that a 5th sleeper because we really don’t want that as we need the drawer space and I carefully booked a room without that extra bed” She said it was and looked at our booking. She spent a long time communicating with someone on her tablet looking for another room for us. I kept saying I was sorrry and she kept apologizing for the wait. It did take quite some time and she was just lovely. She or whomever she was communicating with came up with another ready room. She said it was actually an upgrade (to river view). It is 3rd floor Acadia house and we overlook the water that the boats don’t go down. It is super close to main building and north bus stop and both a quiet pool and the main pool. We are very happy with the room. I did do a cast member compliment for the cast member who helped us at checkin as she was so sweet and helpful. The only bad thing I have to say is that very long black snake I saw on the walkway by the pool could have stayed hidden in the bushes lol. I imagine he needed to dance during the pool party but I really could have done without seeing that. Luckily it was not on the walkway we used. Also luckily I had hand surgery so I can’t go to the pool 🤣. Seriously a lovely resort.

I have heard a renovation is coming in early 2025 to Riverside. Does anyone know of this is true or has details?

No specific details to give out, but after French Quarter is complete they are planning to move on to Riverside buildings 90 and 95 at some point next year.

@andrewilley, I have an upcoming stay planned at POR and I went back and re-listened to the episode of WDW Radio (#97) you were on back in 2008. I think the vast majority of the information you discussed is still applicable today. The only big things that have changed that I was able to detect were boat rentals (which I don't believe they do to that extent anymore?) and the breakfast at Boatwrights. I am sure there were other things that have changed but I think it is still a good listen to anyone interested in the history of the Port Orleans resorts.

And since this is a question forum, I do have one. How does taking the water taxi between POR and FQ work? Is there a dedicated boat that just goes back and forth between the two, does the DS boat to/from POR always stop at FQ as it goes by, or do they have some other system in place? Thanks.

There isn't usually a shuttle that just goes back and forth. The yellow flagged boats do POR<>Springs and the purple flag boats do POFQ<>Springs, sometimes with dual-colour flags serving both resorts. However the boat captains will ask if there are any passengers wishing to transit between the two resorts and they will drop off or pick up en route as necessary.

I'd forgotten that episode where I guested on Lou's show, that must be 10+ years ago now! [Edit: make that 16 years!]

Sadly we check out of Riverside tomorrow and we enjoyed our stay so much. The rooms (regular 2 queen mansion building) are old but kept up quite well. Zero complaints at all. We have not heard a peep from anyone else most likely since we are 3rd floor almost on the corner. My daughter noticed a sign on a door a few rooms down that indicated it was a room with a pet. We assumed a dog but I never heard any barking. Anyway it was a big white and I think black cat sitting in the window! My daughter kept saying you said only dogs are allowed at Disney hotels! I told her I thought that was the case. She never would bring a cat anyway but she was so happy to see this cat in the window. (FYI my daughter is 20 and a huge cat loved). I knew universal allowed cats but didn’t know Disney did. We always hope to see a Disney cat around and this cat made our day.

My fiancee and I will be staying in a royal room in october for our honeymoon.

Just wondering if anyone knows if i contacted the resort, is there a way to get like a "congratulations" message on the television instead of the standard welcome message?

Or if anyone is aware of any other ways I could make our arrival a little bit more special as a surprise for my fiancee?

Yes! Go to your reservation in MDE. Hit the change button.

Then see celebrations? Hit add button. Then next picture shows options. However this only shows up on new TVs and I am not sure if they got the new tv in the royal rooms? Anybody know?
