Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

If we do that, there's no chance that we'd "miss" our ride on the Magical Express, is there?? I don't want to spend the trip stranded at the airport :)
No, you will be fine. Be sure to wear your Magic Bands. Your Magical Express is linked to the bands. I, like many others, have taken the Magical Express where I've picked up my own luggage.

You're not assigned to a specific bus to get to your resort. You can take your time getting to the bus - make a pit stop, get some dinner, browse gift shops, whatever.

Magic bands linked magical express?. Does that mean we will get the bands sent out to the UK?

No, magic bands are just a quick way to checkin, you can show them your printed confirmation or even just tell them your name if you want.

Unless your flight comes in at the end of the Magical Express times no there is no way to miss it. They keep sending buses. Just means you may wait a few more minutes.

We did this last trip and it was definitely the way to go for us.

I also booked a RR River view room for August. What would you recommend for a real river view? A higher floor? Is 2nd floor good enough or I should request the 3rd floor? Thanks.
We were on the ground floor with a River View. I never saw the river as we were only in the room at night or had the drapes closed. IMO it was not worth the extra cost.

If we are in Acadian House we like North Depot, Magnolia or Oak Manor we use East Depot. Parterre Pl is closer to South Depot, although we don't like the main depot so going to park will walk the extra distance to East depot anyway.
Returning to resort we freq get off at South (main depot) regardless of where our room is to fill up our mugs before heading back to room.
We always used the main depot just so we could fill up our mugs.

Also, to address some of the other concerns I see here, we have had no issues with the buses. Not walking to them, waiting for them or getting on them. We've not waited more than a few minutes and always get on the first one that comes. Though we do have to stand sometimes but we don't mind that.
We had great luck with the buses back in Oct 2014. Yes they were crowded but we never had to wait more than 7 minutes.

I've had great river views in the mansion section. Both in Acadian House and Parterre Place. Each time I had 2nd floor. Acadian is my fav location.

Those are my non-park days. I'm planning to spend more than at this beautiful resorts. Last year, we spent a day but my girls wanted more time. For our park days, I'm using my bounce back offer for a regular GV. (Standard was out, or else I prefer closer to the parking lot)

Hi Riverside people!

I am helping a co-worker plan a trip for just after the first of the year for herself and her husband. They last time they were at WDW was in 2002 and they stayed at POR in the Oak building. They have settled on POR once again. They really would like to be in Oak once again, but don't want a Royal Room. She claims she saw that not all the rooms were these, and a phone agent from Disney said they weren't as well. I said I would find out for sure.

Thanks everyone!

Unfortunately, I can categorically confirm that every single room in both Oak Manor and Parterre Place has been converted over to the new Royal Room design. If your friend wants to stay in Oak Manor again, it would have to be in a Royal Room. And if a Disney agent has told them otherwise, they have been misinformed. Sorry.

Arrived today :) we are in AB bldg 14. LOVE the location. Our prime pantry was here and they delivered it to our room.

Great, sounds like you're going to have a wonderful time.

If you get a chance on Sunday, could you see what they are saying in the food court and/or the shop about changes to Snack options on the Dining Plan? And also possible changes to bottled drink prices? (e.g. how much is a Dasani 16.9 fl oz bottle in the food court and in the shop). Thanks!

Thanks for the confirmation Andre. I will give her the information Monday, along with a link to this thread.

And whose fault was that? :) :)

But as you say, there's no point in paying for a view if you are going to shut the curtains. I guess no point in having windows at all, come to that.

Andre
I never understood keeping the curtains closed all the time:confused3 As soon as everyone is dressed, we always open the curtains to brighten up the room and enjoy whatever view we have. If someone walks by and glances in the window, big deal. We are either just sitting at the table or someone might be on the bed watching TV. The balconies at AKL are in view of a lot of other rooms(depending where your room is) see below. So are we not suppose to use it and keep it locked:laughing:

I agree. and when not dressing , we do like the drapes open for the extra light. but we also tend to use the area right outside our room as our "balcony"...we often stand outside our room with a cocktail, leaning on the railing. (which in the reason we prefer 2nd floor over ground floor).
and the reason we prefer value or moderate resorts sometimes over deluxe is the outside corridors..I know many people like inside hallways.
but we like that if we don't like our view (and how often do you look out your window anyway?) we can change our view by just walking down a bit or around a corner.!

Our flight lands at 8:30 p.m. Originally we were booked at CBR, and the reservation CM stated that we would have to retrieve our own luggage at the airport because otherwise it absolutely would not appear in our room until after midnight. When we switched the reservation to POR, the phone CM laughed off my question about whether we should get our luggage at baggage claim. He said there was no problem since we were arriving before 10 p.m., and that the luggage would be in our room around 9:30 p.m.

I know all of the official Disney advice about flight times and luggage delivery, but I'm wondering about the huge difference in advice from two CMs. Should we believe the second CM or just grab the luggage ourselves?

Thanks!
Disney tells us to expect our bags, in our rooms, via DME, 3-4 hrs after resort check in. If you land at 8:30, you'll be off the plane at 8:45ish. Then, at DME check in area by 9ish. You probably won't be at the resort until well past 9:30. It's an average of 75 mins from gate to resort!! So, figure on it being almost 10 by the time you get to your resort. Your bags could be in your room by 10:30, or they could be there by 12:30!
The first CM gave you correct info.....that way, if your luggage showed up at 10:45, you would have been thrilled. However, if you land at 8:30, the chances of getting those bags before 10:30 are slim...very slim. And if you went by what that second CM said, you would start getting very peeved by 11 when your bags hadn't shown up!!!
If you want to be sure to have your bags early, so you can settle in and go to sleep, I would leave the tags off the bags and get them at baggage claim. Yes, you'll add about 15-20 mins to your time that way...probably won't get to the resort until 10:30, but you'll have your bags with you.

We had a second floor river view, in Parterre Place..in an area that had only two floors. It was okay, but had a huge tree in front of it.

And whose fault was that? :) :)

Oh come on now......many of us don't want to leave curtains open to have others peaking in. I did that once, while in bldg 14....on two occasions I had little kids stop, put their faces right up to the window and peer in!! Very disconcerting!!! One reason I no longer take ground floor rooms!! Way too much foot traffic going by.

Like I said, I had a 'river view' room at Parterre Place. With the curtains open, I had a terrific view of a tree.....I couldn't have told you there was a river out there if my life depended on it!! Not even a glimpse of water, not until I left the room and headed for the elevator. It did get me a shorter walk to the bridge though....that was my primary concern. So, I basically got what I needed. Loved the location all in all.

When at AKL/Kidani? My drapes are open all the time. The only time they are actually closed is when we are getting ready, if it's dark. Or getting ready for bed. But, once we are done, the drapes are open. Disney will suggest you close your drapes at these resorts, especially if you have a savanna view. There are many, many cameras set up out there, and many of them pick up rooms!!! Especially at night!

Help me decide between 3 buildings...39, 16, or 17?? We want to be close to a pool, quiet or main, doesn't matter and a relatively short distance to the food court.

We originally paid for preferred, but when free dining came out we had to go with garden view...so now I'm trying to figure out the most convenient building.

:thanks:
