Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

So I booked a garden view room could somebody tell me which possible section these would be in?
Alligator Bayou, Magnolia bend or other "areas" thank you

If you did not book preferred room or a Royal Room, then you would be in either a non-preferred building in Alligator Bayou or in either Acadian House or Magnolia Terrace in the mansions. Refer to the maps at the beginning of this thread.

Thanks Andre! I saw that it was from touringplans.com but I didn't click the link to see more, just saved the pic. I prefer getting my Port Orleans info from you. :worship:

I'm a regular to Disney & in the past in my experience booking Riverside is always more expensive than French Quarter. I've just checked for Jan 2017 & both look to be the same price - any idea why? Just wondering if anyone knows a reason for this?

Because Riverside is more awesome? I honestly have no idea. Maybe it's because it is bigger with a bigger food court? No clue. Andre?

Literally anywhere except preferred or royal rooms...unless it is a preferred or royal garden view.

I've given up trying to work out any rhyme or reason behind Disney's pricing policies, other than that it is broadly demand-based and is now so complex that it must be worked out based on computer algorithms rather than someone sitting down with a pencil and paper.

If you want all the facts and figures, I have every Port Orleans rate for 2017 listed and charted at http://www.portorleans.org/roomrates.php#2017 - with 615 separate price-point cells in my master spreadsheet!! Riverside and FQ are broadly similar at the lower-priced end of the room types, but Riverside averages a little more when you get to the more expensive room categories.

The average room prices at Port Orleans went up by 7.1% compared with last year’s rates, and by 12.1% compared to 2015 rates. French Quarter was hit the hardest, with some room categories, such as King Bed, seeing a nearly 12% annual rise. That’s some inflation rate you've got down there in Florida!

The overall tiering at French Quarter seems to have settled into a new pattern too, with River View rooms now considered to be a mid-tier rate, and King Bed and Pool View firmly at the top level. Presumably this is demand-based, as King Bed rooms at French Quarter always guarantee a corner room, and Pool View rooms are all very conveniently located for access to the main building, bus stop, and ferry dock.

The original heavy differentials for Royal Rooms have now been almost completely eroded, with Garden, Pool and River views mostly selling at the same nightly rate, and even then only around $6 more than the cheapest Royal Rooms. So if you are planning a Royal Room vacation, it’s definitely worth considering a Pool View (for the guaranteed convenient location) or a River View.

There is no separate price point for Independence Day for 2017, so the Summer rate lasts for a full two and a half months from May 29 to August 12. Some room categories now feature weekend pricing during the Summer period, although most are still block-priced as in previous years. And even more strangely, in several categories (such as Preferred Location rooms and all of the Royal Room options) weekend nights during Summer are actually priced lower than the surrounding weekday rates, rather than the normal $30 or so hike for Friday/Saturday nights. I do wonder if this might be an error?

I love you. The Statistics teacher in me is absolutely drooling over those spreadsheets and graphs!

We had booked a king room when we were there last August and it had a great pool view. We were just about the closest room to the quiet pool. The pool was very quiet and usually had very few swimmers. Have you ever had any problems with noisy people swimming at night? We would love another pool view room, we have a king booked, but would hate to get a noisy location.

We're heading down 9/4-9/9 and have a king room booked- the room you're describing is exactly what I want- close to quiet pool! Do you remember what your room # was by any chance? I always end up taking pic of my room #... maybe other people do too? :ssst:

I usually take a picture of my room number, too. :) We were in room 2504.

Hi! We'll be staying in a preferred room 9/11 - 9/18. One of the reasons I booked preferred is to be close to the South Depot, which, when we stayed here in 2012, was the stop for first pick up. I don't think that's true any longer, South is now last to be picked up? I'm thinking of changing my request to Magnolia Bend if that's the case. Can anyone tell me the order of pick up? And, if I switch to a mansion building, is it possible to be pretty close to the bridge to go over to the main pool? Thanks.

For most park routes, West is now the first pickup. If you asked to stay in the mansion buildings, your closest bus stop would be either North or East (the second and third stops), but it would probably be just as easy to walk over to the South Depot anyway, depending on exactly where your room is.

Hi. I am checking in on Tuesday. I did online check in quite awhile ago, and have since suffered injury and am somewhat mobility challenged. I originally requested upper floor. I'm booked in a preferred room so I know there is no elevator. I am unable to change my online request. How likely am I to get ground floor on check in if I ask? I may have trouble with stairs. My two adult sons will be with me, so can help me if worse comes to worse, but ground floor would be better for me for sure.

Also, we would like to do a carriage ride one night. We are booked for 14 nights so we have lots of days, but are they ever available for walk ups?

With YeeHaw Bob, is this something you need to get to early to get a table? Does the lounge fill right up when he's there?

Are they still doing the cane pole fishing? I heard the guided fishing tours are going ahead, but casual fishing isn't. Is cane pole considered guided, or supervised?

Just in case....most recommended wheelchair rental company that will deliver to POR should I require one outside of the parks.

Thanks. My husband really wants to keep the preferred room due to the proximity of the food court and his coffee addiction. ;) I, on the other hand, prefer the mansion buildings because they're prettier (at least in my eyes). I guess we'll keep preferred and if South proves too crowded in the mornings we can walk up to West without too much extra walking.

We were in the preferred section last month and the south depot was often crowded in the morning, but we usually got on a bus. It is the last stop before going to the parks, which is nice. The bus driver would sometimes stop at the south depot first on the way back from the parks if the bus was jammed and the park was closed. But having coffee close by is worth the extra trouble. ;)

You would have to call tech support to have them change the online option for you. I would also have the request noted on your reservation. And for extra measure I would send a fax to the resort five days before check in, telling them why you need a ground floor room. :)

The tables disappear very fast. I would get there an hour ahead of time at least. It is a lot more fun to have a table close to the piano than to be back by the lobby.

Agree and our experience was the earlier show is much more crowded than the later one.

My family and I will be headed back to POR in June 2017. We last stayed here 3 years ago. In 2015 we stayed at Caribbean Beach but the whole time i missed Riverside. Can't wait to be there again

I knew you'd have an answer of some kind!

Definitely tell them why you need it. If you get there, and they've put you on an upper floor tell them again. They'll do everything they can to accommodate you. They didn't have anything on the ground floor my first night, so someone helped me (slowly and carefully) get up the stairs with my luggage, then they moved me the next day. A little bit of a pain, but it wasn't their fault.

Just a thanks to all those with great info. on this board....we had a garden view room paid for, and I did the fax 5 days before just like instructed. Asked for close proximity to restaurants/pool/bus due to wifes health issues and on first floor. We were given room 1421 in Alligator Bayou which is a preferred room and very close to everything we asked for. I made a point of thanking the manager for accommodating us. So thanks to all for the great information!! Other than the extreme heat it's been a great trip so far!!

I'm just posting to be able to join conversations about the resort!

My fiance and I have decided that our honeymoon is going to start with a 5 day stay at Disney, and I'm hoping we can book at POR! I've never stayed here before, but after doing some research, I really think it will be the best bet for a honeymoon. I still need to dive deeper and figure out which areas of the resort are best (example: he has a heart condition so it would be best to have a room near transportation if possible). I love doing the planning for a Disney trip, so I can't wait to start soon!

Of course, the honeymoon isn't until NEXT October, buuut it's never too early to start planning :)

Congratulations! POR is a great choice. It is beautiful and very relaxing. Do you also need to be close to the food court? If so, preferred is your best bet. It is in Alligator Bayou.

My family and I are going to Disney December 2017 (2nd week or so) and staying at POR. We've been staying at POR since it was Dixie Landings, but we've never been for the Christmas season. We're very excited, but we have no idea what to expect in December (especially with the weather). Does POR have any decorations or special events? :santa:
