Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

So, as stated above - we were in AB 3705. I was worried about 1) first floor and 2) "way out there". It was so nice! The room was great - corner room. The walk to the depot was 1 minute? Longer to pool and lobby area, but a beautiful walk and one we loved. The transportation was spot on - boats and busses. The CM's were amazing. We ate at the bar the last night - just some drinks and appetizers. We had the pork sliders and the pirogue platter. It was perfect.

We cannot get enough of that resort, now. I am so glad we went back...perfection! And, after all my anti-WDW rants on here...we have been sucked back in. Sigh.

So I'll be staying here in May, and have a question. Do they provide liquid soap for your hands, or only bar soap? I much prefer liquid, and may bring (or have my traveling partners bring, since they are driving and I am flying) some liquid soap of my own if it's not provided.

I am leaving POR today, and there was only bar soap provided. I always bring my own antibacterial hand soap as I like the liquid soap to wash my hands with also!

Our matresses were awful when we stayed last December. Very creaky and hard. I was hoping they were about to be replaced. We stayed in Alligator Bayou and will be staying in the Royal Rooms this December. I really hope its corrected by then as we otherwise love the place.

I just stayed there in February and had no issue with the bed. I suppose different people have different comfort levels, but my mattress at home is pretty plushy!

I actually include a bottle of hand soap in my Garden Grocer order.

We always bring liquid had soap as well. I can say we did not have an alarm clock in our room either, which didn't matter since we use our phones.

I am one who likes to glance at the clock to see what time it is. Yes we have our phones, but our last stay, we were at POP, I really missed not having a clock in the room. I hadn't even thought to ask Mousekeeping to bring one. I honestly thought it was something the values had done away with. I will definitely call Mousekeeping and request one for our stay in September :)

I can't speak to AB as we haven't stayed there since 2012, but I was in a Royal Room in Feb and the beds were very comfy in my opinion. Hopefully you think so too!

And the struggle is real for families of 5 (even though I know you weren't the original poster). We are one too. I can only use the Royal Rooms on girls/race weekends.

The coffee pods, clock and laundry bag are easy fixes. I just leave a note

I also left a note for Mousekeeping, right under our tip, for some things we needed. In our case it was lotion and an extra blanket. She brought 3 bottles of lotion and the blanket. Honestly, our mousekeeping was fabulous!

I have found that it is often really difficult to find enough open plugs to use so I purchased this: http://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger...1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage It works great and Anker has excellent reviews for it's product. All the USB chargers will plug into it. I use it at home and we can plug in all of our things from one plug.

I used a differnt brand, but similar to the Anker and it is so handy, espeically for race weekends to charge headphones, Garmin, phone & external charger.

I sure hope so! It was mostly how creaky they were. You could not sit down, get up, roll over, anything really without loud noises.

When should we try to fax in room request? Week before trip? Reading all about POR has me so excited!

I always bring my own anyway, because at home I'm used to an alarm that gradually gets louder. Which means when I have one that starts out really loud, it scares the bejeebers out of me. So I bring my own that is fairly quiet, but loud enough to wake me up. The beeps gradually get closer and closer together, which has a similar effect to one that gets louder.

I have read on this thread to fax your request 3 to 5 days in advance of your check in. In viewing Andre's website (portorleans.org), I was able to figure out the type of room that I wanted.
I don't have a fax machine at home and since I am a member on touringplans.con, I ended up using their free fax service to request a room. They sent the fax for me about 4 days before I arrived. We got exactly what I had requested!

We just got back from three nights at POR, and had a king bed in a mansion room. My husband and I both thought the mattress was super comfortable (and we have a top of the line mattress at home). But maybe it's subjective?? It did not creak, and was a Beautyrest.

That's what I think...or it's luck?

Of course in the case of beds it can be subjective but in this case I think we may have simply run into some bad luck and were in rooms with beds due to be replaced. My little boys thought the beds were so funny and would move around on them to hear the noises :) It seems like from these comments that there must have been some updates or maybe we just had bad luck. Glad to hear so many positive reviews though. One less thing to worry about for our next trip!

I believe there are at least three brands of mattress in use at the moment from various replacement programs, but I think it's pretty much random where you'll find them - it's not that the Royal Rooms have one type and Alligator Bayou have another. So short of checking the label each visit it'd be hard to know which one you've got. That, on top of the fact that comfort rating with regard to mattress firmness is a very subjective matter, and of course there being the odd faulty one (or noisy bed frame), makes it very hard to say whether any given person will think their mattress is comfortable or not.

For what it's worth, since the last refit we've had at least five or six different rooms in various sections of POR and not once did any of our group think the beds were uncomfortable. Just a bit high to get in to, compared to what we have at home.
