Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

No - we were in building 4 which is a bit away from the main screen. building 5 is closer and the building across from 5. - not sure of the number but they might have an issue with sound depending on where the room is located. We could hear the sound when outside of our room but not inside with door closed. Unless you want a river view - building 4 is great. Close to food court and buses. The other side of the building does face the parking lot but there is lots of plants, trees, flowers and pathways on that side and like other folks have mentioned, you really do to notice the view that much from the room since there is no place to sit outside the room unless you drag out a chair.

I was so excited to have a corner room with 2 windows to decorate! I was one of those people and would look at the windows we passed to see if anyone else had decorated their windows or if they had towel animals. One room was decorated with a valentine theme and some folks were putting their Duffy Bears that were colored in from Epcot in their windows. Other than that - I did not see too many windows decorated and POFQ has the best windows to decorate. Never had a problem doing this and always make certain to clear windows of anything that we had applied and it is fun and makes the room seem festive. We even used battery powered lights and my granddaughters really enjoyed putting the lights on.

Thanks for the info. We've been in building number 2 before and loved it but I requested building number 4 or 5 for our next trip.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to drop in and reminisce about my trip to POFQ.

DH and I went there on our honeymoon in 2007 (I can't believe it's been so long ago)!

We stayed in room 6140 - it was a king bed river view room.

I found that part of the resort to be peaceful and quiet. That came in handy as unfortunately, I ended up with a terrible cold. It was a nice, comfortable place to rest though!!

I can see that the decor has changed quite a bit since I stayed there...it looks really nice!

I hope that all of you who are planning to stay there enjoy your experience as much as I did!!

Although we try out a different resort each time we go, I think that it was our excellent experience at POFQ that got us hooked on Disney...we've been back 4 times since!

Now this is only our opinion but we have found it not worth the extra $$ to pay for a "view" in any of the moderate or values. We feel this way because there is no balconies to sit on to enjoy the view. The only way to actually enjoy a view is to have your blinds/curtains open. With them open everybody walking by can look in, we don't like that. And there are always people walking by. So if one of us wants to enjoy a nice view while others are getting ready, we step outside the room and walk about 20-30 seconds and sit in one of the courtyards. Or walk out and sit by the river. Now if staying Deluxe, we will gladly pay extra for a nice view because we will actually enjoy it from the balcony

I agree 100%

so that we can have a quick breakfast in the room and we prefer cream cheese over that icky fake butter in the fridge section near the drinks station. TIA.

When we were there last week they had changed it up. No more fridge and the little packs of butter, cream cheese, and PB were sitting in baskets on the dessert/pastry counter. They also took out the creamer machines and only have the little packets of non dairy liquid creamer.

DH and I love this resort. We stayed previously at a deluxe and a value resort. We liked the deluxe resort however for the money we paid we were not impressed and was thankful we didn't pay full price. if we had i think we wouldn't of been able to go ti WDW this year. now, the value resort we stayed in last year was somewhat lacking. I know its themed and its Disney and it's aimed at little kids so I knew it wasn't going to be quiet etc. but the way its set out and the theming outside the areas somehow looked like a glorified Travel Lodge or a holiday inn. the meals were standard american and I don't have an issue with that but we didn't have much choice.

now for POR and POFQ. this resort boasts a lovely setting and is not crowded with children. each 'mansion' is beautifully decorated (i've not seen the refurbishments first hand) and there are lovely walk ways between POR and French quarter. the boats take you to DTD and is anice change from the buses. FQ has a nice menu and has a lot of choice and has at least two pin boards and i can't wait to trade on.

POR has a great gift shop named Fulton's and its great to gather essentials like bread, jam, milk etc. at the packages station there is another pin board and DH and I plan to make regular stops there. the food court at POR is nice, it has a great selection to choose from and its nice to have creat your own pasta instead of burger and fries. the River Roost bar is great for the entertainment after being at the parks all days and its nice to be able to have some snacks whilst having a nightcap and watching the entertainment.

the resort is always clean and tidy and the staff are always polite and acknowledge your presence in hallways etc.

We are both very excited to be going back 'home'

We have always stayed in a standard room and they have all been great. There is usually heavy vegetation/landscaping between the rooms and the parking lot that you have to look hard to actually see any cars.

I absolutely agree! Last year we had a standard room but ended up on a garden view room. It's basically the only reason I booked a garden view this time around, I want to improve my chances of staying at the same room again or at least on the rooms adjacents to it.

I LOVE building 4, it's just so well located! We were 100 yards away from the bus stop, IF that. It's awesome to see the bus approaching and knowing we could be there in less than 20 seconds if needed.

We will be there in 2 weeks!!! I was wondering how the pool construction is affecting the overall ambience. Anyone there now want to share their thoughts?
Just returned from a weeks stay! Pool construction wasn't an issue for us. They have it blocked off well but you can peek of you want too. We liked checking in to see the new paint job on the serpent. He is going to look amazing when it's done.

Thanks. They had the little containers of Coffee Mate when we were there last September, too, makes me crazy opening all those little packets.

Just returned from our long awaited POFQ vacation and to be honest truly missed having the pool. We had a few hot days although we also had cool and rainy days so not that huge of an issue. They
had cargo carts that pick you up by the play ground area and you can also take the boat or walk. One day the cargo carts were running very slow and one women did a bit of complaining. Other than that one time the cargo carts seemed to be running better and the boats are also a good option.
Do you mean pargo carts? I wouldn't want to ride in a cargo cart, that would really be uncomfortable.:)

Checked in today, got a great room in bldg 4. In my fax I just asked for connecting rooms and mentioned that bldg 4 would be nice.

DME dropped off in this order, OKW, SSR, POFQ, POR. 4 passengers at OKW, 2 at SSR and almost everybody else at POFQ. From the time we checked in at DME until we arrived at POFQ was exactly 1hour.

Creamer at the food court is the little cups of Coffee Mate.

A 6 pack of Coors Light at Jackson Sq is $15.98.

Green and purple are the only mug colors.

That was also the case when I checked in last Thursday. I didn't time how long it took this year, but pretty sure it was less than the 90 minutes I had the year before.

It's official, I love POFQ. Had a nice room in Bldg 2 facing the pool area (didn't mind the construction). They put me on the ground floor, and even though I thought I didn't want that, it was actually really nice to just walk out the door. (Until this morning, when I had to walk out the door and leave... :worried:

I have discovered the secret to good beignets! I had them one morning last year and they were fine, but I wasn't crazy about them. I formed a theory about why they weren't as good as expected, and put it to the test twice this year with delicious results: In 2013, I was in the food court before 7 am waiting for the hot food service to start, and my beignets were the first order of the day. They just seemed kind of pale and wimpy. This year, twice, I was running late and ordered them around 7:20 when the fryer had been up and running for a bit and they were amazing! The ones this year were more "done," golden brown with more body, and they were great.

Have a fantastic stay pixiedust:

What's up with the mug color selection? I read that they had actually switched off the RFID system at some of the Deluxe Resorts (Contemporary is one that comes to memory but I'm not certain). Are they ditching the system for the Rapid Fill or are they clearing out current stock for a change? Anyone heard anything?

Yes, that order of resorts has been the same for all our drop offs on all four occasions we have stayed at French Quarter. It makes logical sense to do it that way. Fair to do the Deluxe first and all in the same area.

Thanks! Although we are a little disappointed to find out we will have a view of the parking lots as we did not have a choice when we booked! Do you think if we sent them a friendly fax there would be any chance of being given a room with a nice view? Has anyone had a standard view room before?

View from standard view room in building 4 in May, loved it!

My family and I just got back from a wonderful stay at POFQ! We loved everything about this resort! Thanks for all the details and advice that is posted on this board. Very helpful!

So I'm just about to make a reservation for a trip this fall (right after Thanksgiving). It's just my husband and me, celebrating our anniversary. :) I'm happy with a Garden view, but I'm not sure what building to prefer. Which would you say is best for both quiet and convenience to the food court?

As I sit here watching chunks of sn'ice falling from my roof and trees, I'm getting sooooo excited to ditch this crappy winter weather and head to 80+ degree sunny Orlando in just 10 days.

Just one crazy busy week of work between me and Mickey (and shorts and sun and POFQ and rides and beignets and....)

No snow for us here in the UK. Just rain, rain and more rain. Oh, and floods!! No floods in our area though, luckily.

161 days to POFQ!!

It's best to word your requests to spell out what you are looking for. So in your case "quiet location close to food court". :thumbsup2
