Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

Rooms are assigned before you arrive, so it's best to get your request in before you arrive. You can call the main reservations line and have any room requests added to your reservation. Or you can fax your requests. Please see this awesome thread by Venomhatch that explains it all and even has a template to use.

Thanks for the tips! I just typed up and faxed our requests :dance3:

I might be wrong... but didn't POFQ used to have the creamer dispensers that you just pushed your mug against and the creamer came out? We were there 2 weeks ago, and they didn't have the dispensers. I know this is really nit-picky... but it was a complete pain. People would stand on the end where all of the sugar packets and individual creamers are located. They would stand there, put the sugar in, then open 4-5 individual creamers and pour into their coffee, and then finally step away. Then that would repeat with a line up of people all morning long. When I could finally get near the area, I would grab a handful of creamers and sugar and go stand at a table to "dress" my coffee, but most people didn't seem to to that.

It made for crazy long lines just to grab a packet of sugar....

I hope they re-think this, and bring the creamer dispensers back!

Yes they did have dispensers in the past, but not now I'm afraid. I think they may have vanished around the time that the resorts switched over to Joffrey's coffee, as the dispensers were right next to the Nescafe machines.

Yes, the trick is to reach in and grab a handful of the little cups and run! :)

Andre I have an injury that has me needing bars on the shower. Do they have rooms with those bars or do do you need a fully handicapped room in order to have those bars.

I much preferred the dispensers. At least those have a tray under to catch the excess. I found that the little cups cause a lot of mess. It's incredible how many folk seem to think the foodcourt staff are there to pick up their trash and dispose of it and wipe counters on their behalf. So why they have opted for the cups is beyond me. It surely can't be more cost effective?

The "Florida Special" accessible rooms have grab-bars next to the bathtub, so that would probably be sufficient for you (you still have to be able to step into the tub though).

Thanks. I love it when our luggage "magically" appears in our room and we don't have to mess with baggage claim and lugging everything onto the bus, but it's just not going to work that way this trip. :( Yay! I can finally say that we'll be there this month! :)

Summer lady.. I will be arriving at on a 10 pm flight myself & when I called to ask about the DME, the cast member told me that for ALL flights arriving after 10 pm you have to collect the bags yourself & bring them to the MDE checkin.

If anyone has any different experience, please let me know!

I understand that, but our flight is supposed to land at 8:30 p.m., I'm hoping we'll be at the resort around 10ish.

My mum and I are considering staying at POFQ for my 21st on 23rd June-7th July (deciding between POFQ and CBR). I would really love to stay at this resort as it will be our first trip to WDW (and the USA!), however it's £300 more than CBR.

One of the things that is most tempting is the boat to Downtown Disney and the room with two queen beds (CBR only has Kingsize rooms left..). Realistically how busy will the resort be at this time? Will we be able to get onto the boat? And will the pools be completely full?

We're also interested in things to do in the evening, how much is there to do at POFQ? :)

That's a significant price difference. POFQ is small and there is not a sit down restaurant or much in the way of evening activities, besides movies on the lawn and swimming - no clubs or anything like that. However, there is the boat to DTD, which has a lot going on, and it's a short ride over. I've never been in June, but I can't imagine the pool would be so full as to be unusable and there is always the option of going next door to POR and using they pool there as well.

Don't forget, there is also Yeeha Bob, just a short walk away at PORS. If you do decide to go to Downtown Disney on the boat for a little "nightlife", check out Ragalan Road for the live Irish music and dancing. Its one of our favorite places in Disney.

Hannahh25, this is what you want to have a look at. Click in the link in Andre's post to get you to the website with loads of information and pictures on both Port Orleans Resorts :)

The February 2014 Recreation Activities and Movie Schedules for Port Orleans French Quarter are now available. See the main Recreation Activities Schedule page for full-size PDF versions, or click on the image below.

The outdoor movies will start at 7pm and the daily campfires commence at 5pm this month.

Reminder: The French Quarter "Doubloon Lagoon" pool area is closed for refurbishment work until approx 28 February 2014, so activities will take place in the courtyard there instead of the pool. The pool bar and hot tub are closed too. For those who want to swim, there is a free shuttle service which takes guests directly over to the Riverside pool on Ol' Man Island, and all guests can use the five quiet pools too.

Andre

Are you buying the Dining Plan? If not, you could consider doing a split stay and spending part of your stay at CBR and part at POFQ. You would need to make sure you link your tickets/book them with the one you check in at first though so that they can be activated on arrival, so keep that in mind. If you are wanting the dining plan however, it becomes more tricky and usually more expensive too, depending on how you buy your tickets

Just some info from my experiences - not saying the Fax requests are not needed, but.....

DH & I stay at POFQ often. I make our ressies online. Then sometime before our trip (months or weeks before), I call & advise the CM of our room requests. We have always gotten our requests - no Fax necessary.

Scat is open. The hours were something like 11am-midnight. They had nice musicians on Friday and Saturday night. I'm not sure what other nights because we were out in the parks later the other nights or I just didn't notice.

did they close the Scat Cat club at POFQ?

Not at all. We recently got back from our first stay here. We hung out in Scat Cat's two of our three nights. The musician was Tom Casey. He played a keyboard and sung a variety of types of music. Not the best singer on the planet and he wasn't very personable, but it was nice to have live music.

Oh, sorry, I misunderstood your arrival time. Either way, seems like handling the baggage yourself might your best bet.

No problem. Yes, I think hauling our own luggage is going to be our best option this time. Hate to do it but at least I'm getting an extra night and that's s great thing! :)

I'm still sad about Elliot being gone
