Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

I'm still sad about Elliot being gone

Yeah, I think quite a few people still feel that way. Tom's a talented musician sure, but the consensus seems to be that his shows don't have the same New Orleans vibe that Elliot's did.

I never did get to the bottom of why they let Elliot go after last year's lobby refurbishment, his shows always seemed so popular and from what I've heard from people who know him, it wasn't his idea to leave. Maybe it was a financial decision?

I have no doubt whatsoever that there is more to it than we will ever know. Disney are masters at making traces of events just vanish when needed to.

I think the thing with Elliot was the way he engaged the people; even if you just sat there quietly enjoying the music, he made sure that each and every person felt they were part of it. Even at 8 years old, my daughter enjoyed it - and let's face it, without his personality and interaction with the guests, precious few 8 year olds were going to be sitting there for the style of music. It wasn't Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, if you get where I'm coming from. Yet he drew the kids as much as the adults. He had something special that you can't teach or buy. And that's what we miss. With no disrespect at all to his successor, of course.

We watched Elliot for years. Last year we saw Tom for the first time, stayed about 10 minutes and walked out. A real disappointment.

I didn't care for the new guy we miss Elliott We have his cd. Lol

We will be there in 2 weeks!!! I was wondering how the pool construction is affecting the overall ambience. Anyone there now want to share their thoughts?

I'm wondering too. Also has anyone tried the transportation over to POR for the pool? How's that going?

Last week they were running an extra boat back and forth with a new captain....he smashed a piece off the POR dock ;). The other captain who rescued us said he had been there a week.

I know that they give you a couple of those little containers of cream cheese when you buy a bagel in the food court, but do they sell larger packages of Philadelphia cream cheese in the gift shop? I'm bringing bagels from home (don't want to waste a snack credit!) so that we can have a quick breakfast in the room and we prefer cream cheese over that icky fake butter in the fridge section near the drinks station. TIA.

I've had a few photos sent through, doesn't look like too bad an impact to be honest. There are currently green 6ft construction walls across the entrances to the pool area and around the hot tub. Also the slide and water features have scaffolding around them (presumably for minor repairs and repainting). The pool looks to still be full of water at the moment though, I assume it will be drained at some point.

We've booked our stay for June/July and have been given a standard view room, does anyone know where abouts this would be in POFQ? We would like to request a room with a nice view as we're staying for my birthday for 2 weeks, but don't expect to be upgraded to river view or anything, but just would like to know what kind of room we can expect! :)

Check out the map at the link below. If you click on any building, it will show you all the different room types in that building.

Thanks! Although we are a little disappointed to find out we will have a view of the parking lots as we did not have a choice when we booked! Do you think if we sent them a friendly fax there would be any chance of being given a room with a nice view? Has anyone had a standard view room before?

We have always stayed in a standard room and they have all been great. There is usually heavy vegetation/landscaping between the rooms and the parking lot that you have to look hard to actually see any cars.

Now this is only our opinion but we have found it not worth the extra $$ to pay for a "view" in any of the moderate or values. We feel this way because there is no balconies to sit on to enjoy the view. The only way to actually enjoy a view is to have your blinds/curtains open. With them open everybody walking by can look in, we don't like that. And there are always people walking by. So if one of us wants to enjoy a nice view while others are getting ready, we step outside the room and walk about 20-30 seconds and sit in one of the courtyards. Or walk out and sit by the river. Now if staying Deluxue, we will gladly pay extra for a nice view because we will actually enjoy it from the balcony.

Just returned from our long awaited POFQ vacation and to be honest truly missed having the pool. We had a few hot days although we also had cool and rainy days so not that huge of an issue. They
had cargo carts that pick you up by the play ground area and you can also take the boat or walk. One day the cargo carts were running very slow and one women did a bit of complaining. Other than that one time the cargo carts seemed to be running better and the boats are also a good option.

We were in building 4 and did not really mind the construction appearance. The food court was more crowded than we have seen in the past and there was a large cheerleading group at the resort. The buses were very crowded in the morning and return trips back to resort but if you time it outside of peak hours it is fine. We would head to bus area early or later to avoid crowds - usually to MK. Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom were less crowded and Epcot also had full buses. Our first day and our bus stalled out for a while and we were stranded in a full bus for what seemed like forever but probably less than 15 minutes and bus was able to be restarted. On our last day - this Friday a bus headed to Epcot hit a bus that was headed to Animal Kingdom and that stalled everything for a while.

In case anyone was wondering the laundry works great with a debit card- actually prefer this to the old system of feeding quarters into the machine. Early morning was the best time for laundry. Front desk folks were great our granddaughter lost her Magic Band and and they replaced it with no fuss. Mousekeeping did a great job although towel animals were not happening like they did in the past. In fact, I still have a towel puppy that was made for us on our last trip in 2012. Actually prefer the food court at the FQ over Riverside although the pasta bar at the Riverside was worth the trip over.

Still think that POFQ is the BEST moderate there is!

Everyone headed to POFQ - have a wonderful trip!!

We had a standard view in Building 4 and had a view of the fountain and the area where they show the movies- it was excellent.

Good point! I have nice view my last two trips and honestly never really saw the view other than walking out to go to the parks.
I agree with the part about the blinds open. I don't like that feeling and honestly I do understand why people look in. LOL I doubt it's intentional it's more just because someone is there or I don't know. I just know I have caught myself glancing when I walk by a room.

And agree there is lots of vegetation. Although the trees were kind of striped of the leaves this last trip, but still a lot and really wasn't much worry about overlooking a parking lot.
I won't spend the extra unless Standard not available.

Is it loud in your room when the door is closed and there is a movie on?

No - we were in building 4 which is a bit away from the main screen. building 5 is closer and the building across from 5. - not sure of the number but they might have an issue with sound depending on where the room is located. We could hear the sound when outside of our room but not inside with door closed. Unless you want a river view - building 4 is great. Close to food court and buses. The other side of the building does face the parking lot but there is lots of plants, trees, flowers and pathways on that side and like other folks have mentioned, you really do to notice the view that much from the room since there is no place to sit outside the room unless you drag out a chair.

I was so excited to have a corner room with 2 windows to decorate! I was one of those people and would look at the windows we passed to see if anyone else had decorated their windows or if they had towel animals. One room was decorated with a valentine theme and some folks were putting their Duffy Bears that were colored in from Epcot in their windows. Other than that - I did not see too many windows decorated and POFQ has the best windows to decorate. Never had a problem doing this and always make certain to clear windows of anything that we had applied and it is fun and makes the room seem festive. We even used battery powered lights and my granddaughters really enjoyed putting the lights on.
