Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

Ok thank you so much! It's strange to me that CMs don't know about it at all. I know they don't know a lot, but this seems important.

Has anyone heard what work they will be doing on the pool ?
Just wondering if we will be looking at dirt/construction vehicles during our stay.

I also would like to know what to expect from the pool work when we are there. Hoping that the hot tub might be open again by the 25th Jan, somewhere I read that this might be a possibility if it is done first.

Also, looking at requesting building 1, what are your experiences with this building? I know that they are all pretty simillar with advantages but I would like your opinions on building 1 Garden view. Stayed 6 last time and liked it but would like something different and the atmosphere seems a little different on that side of the resort. Thoughts?

Also... Something I was wondering because it's never happened to me... If you pay for a water/pool view and then the pool goes under construction, do you get a lower rate or do they offer you an upgrade?

We have been here for a week now and here is a mini review:

LOVE

The resort is compact and we have less than a 5 minute walk to the lobby, the store, the quick service restaurant, the boat that goes to Downtown or the bus stop.

Our room has been spotless with 2 towel animals.

The resort is quiet.

We paid for a king bed and were given a water view without requesting anything.

Plenty of storage.

Comfortable bed with plenty of pillows.

The grounds are beautiful.

The CM's have been friendly.

The beignets are wonderful.

CONS

The food options are limited

Not all CM's have the same information

There are no bedside lamps for reading

The laundry room does not have any paper towels or sink. My washer did not spin and there was nothing to clean it up with.

We love the resort and would stay here again and recommend it to anyone.

I doubt it, unless you complain in which case they might do something for you.

I would doubt the hot tub would reopen before the pool because usually it's the life guards that monitor and adjust the water chemicals so without lifeguards on duty..... They are fencing pools to not be used when the guards aren't on duty any more, not sure if they will use the down time to do other pool work too though.

For our first Christmas trip ever! Looking at the weather I am taking shorts to wear but will have some long pants in the car just in case.

I'm not going to cancel or throw a fit, but I'm slightly irritated with the pool closure. I do not deny the need for refurbishment, but I wish it had been mentioned somewhere when I made our reservation. I have searched a bit on the WDW website and have found no obvious listing of resort refurbs. The only place I've heard of it is on here.

late check out is an extreme rarity. housekeeping needs to get the room ready for the next guest (and so many people hope to get their room early). one time we left the room to do the resort airline check in, eat breakfast, and came back around 10 am and the maid was already cleaning the room and didn't want to let us in!

That's too funny. I try to remember to put the Do Not Disturb sign on the night before . Nothing like staying up all night till 2-3 a.m. at the parks and have housekeeping banging on your door at 8 am to find out if you're there or not. Or like you, coming back from eating breakfast and finding housekeeping trying to clean your room and you ackwardly now have to go in to get your stuff for the parks. I also throw it on anytime I'm in the room or am heading to the pool. Ok, well, I try to remember to.

we keep the do not disturb sin up almost the entire time we are there. It keeps falling off! but even with it on, they bang on your door to make sure you don't want to be disturbed:rotfl2:.

at CBR, the checkin, etc. is in another section. we were in matinique, as near to the food court as you could get. but we wanted to get everything squared away, not sure about lines, etc. so we took the internal bus over to the carriage house, checked in our lugggage. they no longer hang your "eviction notice" (final bill of charges :)) on the door, so while we were over there we asked for it. took the internal bus to the food court, had breakfast.
short walk back to the room. to look at the weather, used the bathroom, relax. she was cleaning and wouldn't leave!
now as others have stated when I started a thread about this, getting the bill was my downfall. ok, I understand. but now I am telling her, sorry,. mistake, we haven't left yet, here we are.. using our room until 11, like we paid for.

she still wouldn't leave. she said to call. so I did, and they told her to go. but she wouldn't I started dragging her vacuum and stuff. out it was funny, really. .

I feel exactly the same way. And we have tried to change resorts. CMs tell us there is no refurb happening, so not only are they not telling people... They have no idea! We aren't switching either. It's too late now to get our discount at a other resort :(

Do resort beds already have some sort of waterproof mattress protector? If not, can I request one, or do I need to take my own?

We will be going with 4yr old DD and 2yr old DS (come next summer). I don't know if DS will be out of nappies by then, but wanted to have something on the bed, just to be on the safe side, in case accidents happen.

I would pack a hospital type washable chux pad..we use one on our son's bed and he has CP so not trained yet..hoping someday..it is easier than an entire liner and does the job.

We are leaving on the ME right now after an awesome trip!! POFQ was amazing! All of the CMs were extremely helpful, clean rooms, great service all around. I would love to stay here again. The only real wait we had was leaving MK this morning. We were at the bus stop @ 11AM and had to wait almost 30 minutes on a bus and then they switched drivers. ME was leaving at 12:10 so we were getting nervous, but it all worked out great. Thank God for an awesome trip, very little wait times, and great moments of magic for our 5 year old DS!

I've just created updated an PDF file of the POFQ building floorplans, now including Connecting Room details - would anyone like to check it out while I'm still working on the pop-up image versions for the site?

I love how you have organized this. It makes me realize why I might get the room choice I get, even when I asked for something else. Some combinations are just not compatible, or rare.

On this trip I have asked for standard, connecting rooms near the food court. Looking at your diagram, it would be bldg 3 or 4 since both have a lot of standard rooms, but more likely 3, because there are more connecting, standard view rooms than bldg 4.

Last time I booked a GV room, requested bldg 3 or 4, near transportation, and got bldg 5, which I didn't really want, but it looks like there are a lot of GV rooms available there.

Our trip is in just a few days and I'm trying to decide between hiring a car or taking ME. Does anyone know about how long it takes to get to the FQ from MCO? I can't remember the drop off route and shared resorts with ME. We have reservations for late lunch/early dinner at the MK at 3:50 and flight arrives at noon. What do you guys think?

We were there a couple of weeks ago and from landing to resort about 1:15. We stopped at OKW and Saratoga Springs. It is a beautiful resort and we loved it. Never shared buses with Riverside. Have a great trip!

Thanks! So we are looking at 1-1.5 hrs from what I gather. I just checked our reservations and they are actually at 2:50 not 3:50. Arrive at noon and 2:50 reservations at MK. This will be tight!

In February this year, from gate to resort on DME my trip was right around 90 minutes, with stops at OKW and SSR before POFQ. It's going to vary somewhat based on how long you have to wait for a bus and how long the bus waits to load passengers.

So if we land at noon and hightail it to ME and it takes 2 hrs from gate to resort we would arrive at 2. We would need to check in, drop carry ons in the room, get to the bus stop and travel to MK, get thru bag check and gates (with hopefully working bands, lol) then walk briskly to the Liberty Inn. Possible, yes, plausible....hmmm. I wonder if there is leeway in checking in for adr's? Maybe we should cancel and eat waffles :)
