Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

We flew Southwest. Took about 30 minutes after we landed to get to our resort. Our room was ready. magical Express was great. Took about 3 hours to get our luggage.

I am able to complete online check in at this time. I am wondering if I should. What are the pros and cons of online check in?
TIA

We are here now and are very pleased.

The lobby is beautiful. Check in went very smoothly. The cast members are very friendly. We did' not make any requests and were given a king size bed (our originally booked room) on a second floor in the corner with a river view.

The room is perfect. Clean. The bathroom is small but has a bowed out shower rod and there is a nice granite ledge for storage. There is a double sink with a granite ledge above for storage and a wood shelf below for storage.

The safe is very small and locks with a key.

There is a coat rack with a shelf above.

There is a dresser/entertainment center with 3 large dresser drawers. I bought hanging shelves from e-bags for storage also. There is a refrigerator that holds a lot.

There is some wear and tear but we are not at all unhappy. I asked for a sharps container, a few extra hangers and extra shampoo. Within 5 minutes of calling, someone was there with everything.

We had lunch there. I had a quesadilla with rice and beans. My husband had a cheeseburger and fries. We both had beignets for dessert. The food was so-so but the beignets were great. We saw others with monster ice cream sandwiches made with cookies.

We took the boat to Downtown Disney. We saw La Nouba for the third time. My husband went to get me some water and was given a bag of cotton candy for our anniversary which we gave to a young girl seated near us. We are dinner at House of Blues which was delicious. We shared the fried chicken which was 4 large pieces. It was crunchy on the outside with a bit of spice and juicy on the inside. I had the red skinned garlic Nash and cole slaw -- the coleslaw tasted very refreshing while my husband had the Mac and cheese which was big enough for a meal. We split the jalapeño cornbread with maple butter. We could not finish it all. Our server was the best. For a little shy of $50 we had dinner, a side of cornbread, a side of Mac and cheese, 2 beers and an iced tea.

We are off to Animal Kingdom today with dinner at Yak and Yeti then head to Downtown Disney to see Frozen at 7:30.

It is very warm...in the 80's. The pool looks nicer in person than on line with plenty of seating, towels and life guards.

Our magic bands work great.

Congratulations on your anniversary and thanks for the detailed post. I love living vicariously.

I did online check-in the last time I went but that was in 2009. It was only done 10 days ahead of time. It worked really well for us. We got the room requests we wanted and the best part was that when we arrived there were two lines, one for online check-in and the other for regular check-in. We only had one person ahead of us whereas the other line was really long.

So, I am thinking about doing online check-in again but I thought I would wait until my 45 day window since I won't be making any changes to the timeframe, etc after the 45 window since that is when the final payment is made. I am still working on the transportation to WDW so that is why my dates may change slightly for our upcoming trip in a few months.

We are going to POFQ later this week. My son has a double ear infection and is on an antibiotic that must be kept cold. Are the freezers in the refrigerators good enough to keep an ice pack frozen? We will need an ice pack for our return flight to keep the meds cold but the meds will be fine in the refrigerator while we are there. Also, there is a microwave in the room correct? I read some reviews on Trip Advisor recently where some people said the the hair dryers aren't very powerful. Has anyone experienced this lately? If so I will bring my own, but I'd prefer to have more luggage space.

There aren't microwaves in the rooms, but there are ones in the food court. The hair dryers are fine for me, but I have short hair, so it might depend on how long/thick your hair is.

Oops forgot that I had one more question.
We will fly back home at 3:15 on a Saturday. We've never had a late flight before and we really wanted to check out Epcot. Since check out time is 11 and we'd probably be leaving the resort around 12:30 at the latest should I just ask for a later check out time if possible? If they won't let me do that we just leave our luggage at the check in desk correct? Our luggage is just carry on stuff. I am just concerned about keeping his anitibiotics cold. Thanks.

I have read that they have coolers in the lobby for guests that have perishables delivered. I'm sure you could keep the meds in there. Also, I would ask a CM to put your cold pack in one of their freezers so that it gets cold enough to last during the travel home. If not you can take a ziplock along and keep ice in it.

Poor baby. Are you flying?

Thanks! Yes we are flying. I am going to take ear numbing drops as well. I hope they will let me take them as the bottle isn't clear, but I can at least put them in before we leave. He will have been on the antibiotics for 5 days out of a 10 day run before we leave. I hope I can find some good ear plugs to fit him (he's 5), otherwise no pool for him.

late check out is an extreme rarity. housekeeping needs to get the room ready for the next guest (and so many people hope to get their room early). one time we left the room to do the resort airline check in, eat breakfast, and came back around 10 am and the maid was already cleaning the room and didn't want to let us in! .. but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask.

I used to have really long hair, and the hair dryers worked fine for me. to me a hair dryer takes up way too much needed space in the luggage!

You can ask, and if they do not need the room urgently for another guest then you may be able to get a later checkout up to 1pm without charge (they will only do this for one room per party though). Obviously this does depend on how busy they are, and how many people have asked that day. It is not something you can pre-book, just ask at the front desk the day before you leave.

As long as any liquid medicines are in small enough containers (max 100ml) and are kept in a clear, re-sealable bag for checking, you should be OK. I don't think the medicine bottles themselves need to be clear, but check with the airport if you are unsure.

In August during our trip to POFQ, I had the same worries about keeping my son's insulin cold.

When we arrived from the airport, our room was not ready so we had our carry ons stored at Bell Services and they kept the insulin in their fridge. She said they do that all of the time with medications.

We then left for MK for a while and dinner reservations. When we came back in the early evening our regular luggage was in our room and we picked up our carry ons and the insulin from Bell Services.

As for keeping the insulin cold on the flight, I froze a water bottle. It lasted all day and was way better then an ice pack.

Thanks for the help everyone! We are super excited to see Disney with the Christmas decorations!

I requested a microwave during my last stay at the Yacht Club (2 weeks ago) and was brought one by housekeeping. We needed it for the babies bottles (to sanitize them).

I didn't know if I should put this here or in dining but I was wondering if POFQ has bottled drinks as part of the DDP? I know we have the refillable mugs so I would like to use that and also still get a drink to take with us as part of my meal. I think that's allowed but I am wondering what they have available.
Thanks again super smart folks!

most of the value or moderate resorts (don't know about CSR.. they have weird rules that keep changing) include a drink with a counter service credit, and you can get a bottle of soda or an oj. we would always just use our mugs for a drink with the meal, and save the bottle of soda for back in the room.(so we don't have to walk all the way back to the food court if we want a little mixer for our cocktail.::yes::)

This is 100% true! When we stayed at AoA during August we had some cast members refuse to cash us out if we didn't have the bottled drink and then some who refused if we did, but that was only the first day. So I would have to say yes it is included
