Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

We'll be a POFQ in March. This is an inter-generational trip. Two questions hoping that the experts here can answer.
  1. My father will be using a scooter. He's got back issues and there is no way he can walk all day. Will the scooter fit in the room or should we leave it outside (remove the key, of course). If outside, is there a way that we can charge the battery each night?
Appreciate any input.

We went in March last year and loved it! DS was in a scooter because he fractured his ankle. It will depend on the size of the ecv as to how well it will fit, but we had no problem fitting it in the room along with luggage for three of us. On a previous trip when DH had to use an ecv after surgery there were four of us at CSR (2 adults, 2 teens) and again no problem with room.

Thanks.
Yep, I know they're small. Just hoping there is an outside outlet near the room.

I know people who do take smaller ECVs into their rooms to charge them, it is possible as long as it fits through the door (which most do). There is not usually a power socket outside the room though.

I'm originally from New Orleans - Metairie (from my screen name) is a suburb of NOLA and I just returned today from a trip to NOLA to visit family. (We live in South Florida now.) Sorry, but the PORFQ beignets are NOTHING like the real thing. Just sayin'!

I'm with you on this and realize I'm one of the few, but I was not impressed with the beignets at POFQ. I lived in Mobile for several years and made regular trips over to NOLA and Cafe du Monde. Their beignets are unbelievable. The ones at POFQ always tasted like they had been fried in old oil to me.

I lived 45 min out of NOLA, and also loved Cafe Du Monde, and I also really like the beignets at FQ. I wouldn't ever compare them, as far as expecting them to be exactly the same... Cafe Du Monde has had a "little" more experience to develop a perfect beignet, including "dusting" them with so much powdered sugar that you absolutely cannot eat them without getting dusted along with the table, the chairs, and the ground. lol It's like with donuts in a way; I don't expect (or want) Daylight Donuts' product to be exactly like Krispy Kreme's, but I do like them both. In short, you can't beat the beignets sitting at Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans drinking chicory coffee and being amazed at the powdered sugar snow piled up everywhere; however, I also love sitting in Dis eating FQ beignets and people watching.

I think it's just one of those "when you don't have it at home" kind of thing. I've never had actual true beignets (New Orleans IS on my "want to visit" list, but, well, the list is long but my bank account isn't...) but I did love the ones at POFQ. I don't believe anything at WDW should be compared to "the real thing" anyway :)
We have never been to New Orleans so haven't had the real thing to compare POFQ' s beignets. Just know we liked them . That said we are from the Philadelphia area and have never considered ordering a cheesesteak at Disney .

PortOrleans.org facebook page has some pics up of the new food court (sorry, I don't see the update on their website yet, or I'd link it). Looks like a lot of the little decor details aren't hung up yet.

There's still some decor detail to be completed (although the ceiling will be plainer than before) but they are already testing out the kitchens on some very willing cast member victims (no guests yet, sorry) and the feedback is pretty good!

Breakfast choices include Sweet Potato Belgian Waffles, Buttermilk Pancakes with various toppings, Grilled Steak and Scrambled Eggs, Whole Grain Croissant Breakfast Sandwich, Crispy Fried Chicken on Biscuit with Maple Bacon Jam. All apparently served on real flatware with real cutlery rather than the previous paper plates and plastic knives and forks (which also means less waste I assume). The beverage island now features eight Coca Cola Freestyle machines instead of the previous two multi-dispenser units for cold drinks.

I know what I'm eating Tuesday morning. We land at 8:30 am, hope to hit the resort about 10:00 or so. Breakfast will be our first stop!

Thanks for the menu update! Here until very early Sat morning and looking forward to enjoying the new quick service next visit in FEB!

Looks great...no more center aisle beverage station...more room for tables!

what is a free style coca cola machine mean???

It's one of the new machines that has several different sodas as an option, but also flavors like cherry, vanilla, etc. that you can add to your drink, so you can customize your drink.

The ones last month in the temp food court also had some fruit drinks along lemonade (diet & regular)& Powerade (or something similar ) .The lemonade also had the flavor options. Sadly for DH no pomegranate . There was no ice tea in those machines so hopefully the food court will bring back the Gold Leaf ice tea dispensers with 4 flavor options. The temp court only had 1 with regular ice tea.

Question: do the carriage ride times change depending on the season? The official unofficial website says 6-9:30pm, but in November that would put them entirely after dark!

Maybe they are regional machines. We have had them around here for about 5 years. Various fast food locations and our movie theaters all have them.
They look like this, and have about 150 different drink combinations

Can beignets be used as a snack credit? We can use Dining plan at POFQ food court, right?

Yes you can use the Dining plan at the foodcourt. The order of 3 beignets are a snack credit . If you want to add a dipping sauce that is OOP ( we weren't on the DDP and paid extra for the dipping sauce for our beignets ).
