Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

Hello all,
I am very excited for my third stay at POP, checking in on May 5! I did have some questions about the Online Check-In. My preferences have always been close to transportation and upper floor, but I didn't see an option for close to transportation anymore. I have a standard room reservation; I chose top floor as my first choice, 50s section as my second, but wanted to know my chances of that request being granted. Should I switch my request to 60s? Not sure how many standard rooms there are in that section. Or should I just call reservations and ask?
Edited to add: For my last stay at POP I was near the Lady statue and loved that room, but it was Standard Pool view, not just Standard. Any suggestions of Standard rooms near that area?

This is my same request using online check in for next week- 50s and Top floor I have a standard booked-will update and let you know if we get it :)

Is anyone finding Pops CS lacking recently? Or maybe I just hold Pop to a higher standard? My husband and I were talking and this is our third straight stay in a row with multiple issues and we ALWAYS over look and come back.

This trip from day 1 it’s been something. We’re on day 3, and we’ve yet to receive housekeeping. For the record we did NOT opt out either. I’ve called twice now and I’ve basically got a “what do you want us to do” back. And then when I ask for my room cleaned they still don’t come. It honestly wouldn’t be that big of an issue but we have a 10month old so our trash needs taken out lol.

I'd try going down the front desk and see if that gets a better response. Definitely a problem! Hope it gets worked out.

I’m so sorry this has happened and it is totally unacceptable!

I would email WDW.GM.PopCentury@disney.com immediately and I believe they will correct things quickly. It may not be tonight but I will be surprised if the situation is not resolved tomorrow. I would be sure to include that you have called twice already.

Until then you can always bundle the diapers into one bag and walk them to a trash can. Not ideal but you don’t want to smell dirty diapers all night either.

Hoping this is resolved quickly!

PS Just curious...was there one of the letters on your room with the email address I’ve listed? If not, I’d mention that too as I believe all rooms at Pop should now have a copy of a letter from the GM when you check in.

Since you’ve only noticed it with the buses going to the MK, I’m going to disagree. The fact is, most people who go to the MK take the bus regardless of having a car. It’s too much of a pain/time suck to drive to the TTC and then have to take the boat/monorail over.
No, I don't mean only MK has increased in lines. I just mean that people going to other parks didn't form as ridiculously long lines, but all bus lines have gone longer. In fact, Epcot buses tend to be full even in the afternoon, something that has never happened to us before in previous years during the same time of the year.

I don't know why people drive in WDW at all. Parking in those ocean size parking lots and then get hauled in by those trams...you will never catch me doing that! How exactly do they find their cars afterwards, especially at night? Don't tell me, I don't want to know.:scared:

Sorry to hear that you are not getting housekeeping when you need it. The opposite problem happened to me last fall. I opted out of housekeeping, got the gift card, and the maid came in anyway. She threw away a bunch of my stuff and remade the bed the wrong way for my baby. I called to complain, they apologized and promised to take care of it, and the maid came in the next day anyway! I called to complain again, and the maid came in the next day! So I didn't bother calling and the maid came in again the following day, luckily I was there and I told her that we had opted out of housekeeping. She looked puzzled and embarrassed, but it was obvious that she never got the message.

So, I really recommend that you hunt down the maids yourself and talk to them and tell them you need your room cleaned! to make sure that there's no miscommunication. The Disney machines most of the time works like a dream, but it can get really stuck sometimes.

I guess the only time I’ve been on a crowded bus is right after park close. We don’t leave right after anymore. Instead we walk around in the shops for a half hour to an hour.

You get up early than then stay late? You don't get much sleep that way...I can't do that anymore, especially not with my baby. We usually come back before park closing except for DHS. If we skip the fireworks at MK and Epcot, we get to come back on an empty bus. Once we came back from MK in one of those double section buses (what are they called?) that had just us in the front section. That was magical!

If we stay for fireworks at Epcot, we take the taxi back. For MK, we watch fireworks on EMH days so that not as many people pour out of there when it's over. We used to do that with Epcot, but that trick didn't work last fall (a ton of people), so we took the taxi. I use Lyft for trips from the hotel, but for leaving the parks, taxis are easier. Or should I say, I never did figure out how to use Lyft to get out of any park. So many people, so confusing, didn't where I was supposed to go...the taxi was right there.

You mentioned In a previous post that you only saw long lines for MK. All the other parks didn’t have that problem.

Anyways, I don’t know. So far I haven’t noticed an increase in lines. And we were there for two weeks until September 1st last year. Also, if you’re talking about a trip in September, I’d say many of those people had their parking fees waived if they booked before the March deadline. Attendance is up and there is always a shortage of bus drivers. That may contribute to the lines you notice. I just know timing is everything.

Yes we typically are rd to park close type of people unless we are doing a hard ticket event for the day.

The only time we ever pay for a lyft is to go from resort to resort usually for adrs. I figure the price of the rooms covers Disney transportation so I should probably use it.

hey all....getting there soon. I have a question about the fridges. Do they tend to be regular fridges or beverage coolers? Wondering if the fridges stay cold enough to store food in there if it's items that need to stay refrigerated.

They are real fridges and definitely stay cold enough to store food.

I just wanted to ensure the OP who asked the question was aware.

However it won’t be in the mass amounts as the resorts with the designated group rates. But yes, anyone attending and participating in the competitions can choose to to stay at any onsite or offsite resort. My first stay at POP, we had groups from a martial arts competition. At CBR we have experienced lacrosse, high school baseball spring training and dance teams. At All Stars, marching band competitors.. Groups are in Disney year around. I just wanted the OP to know POP wasn’t the official resort for the cheerleading competitions, but thank you for adding that they could still experience them there. Hopefully in fewer quantity. I’ll be there then as well so that is my hope. I don’t necessarily dislike groups but some can get rowdy and loud at night.

O yes. The fridge can turn into a freezer if you turn it down enough. We've had our milk frozen in there. Not a good idea!

We do use Disney transportation as much as possible; we prefer it to lyft/taxi, which isn't magical at all. Sometimes they are hot or gross or both; sometimes the drivers can't speak English. We only use lyft and taxis when the lines are overly long, or when the buses aren't coming like it's supposed to, or there are too many transfers and make the trip take forever to get there. Like at Epcot park closing, I have to get the kids back soon enough so that they can enjoy a little more swimming before the pool closes. They really love that, so the taxi is worth it. Otherwise, the vacation itself costs so much money; the total amount of money spent on taxis/lyfts isn't that much, and can redeem enough time and energy so that the trip isn't ruined. We eat cereal for every breakfast and some ramen noodle dinners. That alone saves enough to pay for the occasional taxi/lyft rides. We also don't do many ADRs. I think we spent no more than $200 for taxi/lyft last trip of 21 days (not counting Minnievans). That won't even cover one meal for our family of 4 at Boma!

Tip for everyone: avoid lyft/taxis when it's hot out if you don't like a warm car in Florida. They often have weak or no air conditioning. They are good for early morning or after the sun sets or cold or rainy days.

We did a little experiment at All-Star Sports.:)

In my experience, using the GM email is an effective way to contact the front desk/on-staff management. I emailed them 2-3 times during my last stay and with each email, someone called me almost immediately to get each issue corrected.

We were thinking of staying at Pop next year during Mardi Gras week. It will be the week after Presidents’ Day. Are there any large school groups at that time? Also, Our daughter and family are going to stay at AoA, how long does it take to walk to The LM rooms? Will they still have buses to DHS and Epcot or do you have to use the gondolas?

Any other tips or advice welcome.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at POP (our first time there). Stayed Sun 2/24-Thurs 2/28. Room was just fine for what we needed. Not super fancy but clean and well organized. Little touches made a difference-the double pocket doors in bathroom-(one that closed off full bathroom area and one that closed off the toilet/shower area), lots of plugs, etc.
We were in the 50's section, Bldg 2 on the 4th floor which felt like the farthest walk possible from everything. Hit my shins about 100 times on the edge of the bed every day. Those were my only complaints though. :)
Used the laundry facility which was clean and convenient, but beware that all setting on the dryer seemed to be hot. Don't put anything in that's prone to shrinking.
I was very impressed with everyone I came in contact with there and would definitely stay again.
