Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

Anyone heard rumors of bed bugs at pop? I have never stayed there so I am not sure how easy/hard it is to check the room for them.

26 days until our trip but who's counting?! :hourglass

We stayed at Pop! on our very first Disney World trip two years ago and had a BLAST! The buses were on point and the walk over to AoA was fun as well as taking either bus at the end of the night too. Now we're heading back (finally!!) and it had to be Pop! We're simply not going to pay the price for a mod or deluxe when Pop is so fun, great, and convenient. There's no point!

We're just two adults and I requested 60's lake view (albeit online! would be silly to fax or write in the request now no?) - do we have any chance of a refurbished room? We just booked the standard room. Regardless, I'm so excited! :yay:

I've never heard rumors of Bed bugs at POP.
Bed bugs sit on the mattress, The most common place to find them is on the edges of the mattress.
if you lift the sheets and look around the edges of the mattress you will see them, if they are there, they are tiny and black.

I think someone recently experienced some at all stars? I checked the bed bug registry and there were incidents in January in the 50's building: http://www.bedbugregistry.com/hotel/FL/Lake-Buena-Vista/Disney's-Pop-Century-Resort

So I am really hoping I don't get assigned to that building! :guilty: Bed bugs can honestly happen anywhere. They are awful and persistent. I am sure the room refurbs will really help with this but in general the incidents seem to be few and Disney seems to always be on top of it! So even though I've gotten them once before and I'm highly allergic to their bites- I'm not going to stress about it! Will just check the room upon arrival.

I second @scrappinginontario idea, if you don't take a Uber. Also, if you just missed a boat or the line is long, I'd walk to Jellyrolls. It's really not that long of a walk.

Never used Uber before, how reliable and/or fast is it? My brother and his family, of 4, are planning on visiting Universal for one of the days. Would Uber be their best option from the POP, or is there a better option?

My husband and I used Uber last year to get to Universal and it worked perfectly! They were at the resort within about 10 min and on the way back to the resort there were a ton of Uber cars waiting to be picked so it was pretty much instant. I think it's the easiest and cheapest way to go! We'd do it again!

Yup usually in busy places you'll have plenty of Ubers around to choose from. The nice thing about it is you can check on the price and set an alert to see if it drops at all and then book one.

Just a little tip for first-time POPers-if you do The Twist with the Cast Members in Everything Pop at 8:00 AM,you'l get a cool button!:)

We completely feel the same way. We went on our first trip in 2013 and have been back 4 more times since then. We haven't been able to talk ourselves in to staying anywhere other than Pop since we like it so much.

We just left this morning. I requested online--lake view, high floor. We were in 3457. I didn't do anything other than request online.

Hope you have a great trip!

People were asking about tour groups earlier. Just saw a large bus and a dance team practicing in courtyard of 50s building.

YES! We saw lots of groups at Pop and in Magic Kingdom yesterday. It was so so crowded at the park. The lines for busses were longer this morning too.

We stayed at Pop two weeks ago and there were some very large groups at Pop, mostly teen girls from Argentina celebrating "quincinera' which I think is a big 15th birthday celebration. The girls were mostly quiet except for some running up and down the halls at night, at various times I saw the groups congregate in the open areas between buildings but no chanting singing or cheering. They appeared to have their own buses. Also at breakfast at the food court some of the seating areas were blocked off for the groups, and separate food lines were set up for them in these roped off areas. I thought this was a great idea, the food court is busy enough in the morning without big groups all coming in at the same time!

Have you ever used Uber or Lyft before? When you book your car it'll tell you the colour, make/model, and the plate number. You'll also be able to see the Uber (or Lyft if you use that) symbols on them usually front window shield and the back. You tell it where to pick you up (it'll use your phone gps to pin point your location) and drop you off. You pay before it picks you up and you do not tip. It's not as daunting as it sounds I promise!

I've never used either, but I'm familiar with how it works. I just wasn't sure when leaving the parks if Uber picks up where the buses are or if there is another pickup spot. We do plan to use Uber/Lyft our Sea World day. But am thinking since this will be the first trip we actually stay late, we might prefer to use Uber to take us back to POP.

We stayed at Pop Not long ago and found the whole resort to be very clean and well cared for. No bed bug incidents in 60's bldg.

Thanks. The two people that reported seeing them somewhere else I follow said they were in building 7. So hopefully I just request a room not in that building and do a thorough check.

On the bright side, the most recent report is from Jan of 2016, not this year. Disney seems to be fairly quick at acting to eradicate them whenever they appear.

One thing to consider regarding bedbugs - you might be safer from them in a building that has recently been thoroughly treated, than a building that hasn't . . .

Regardless, I always do a complete room check before bringing my stuff in, and I haven't found any evidence of bedbugs yet. That includes my stay at Pop in December.
