Resort Thread Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT

AND THIS IS WHY I LOVE THE DISBOARDS!

LoLaura84 - if I could give you 1,000 likes I would! I just called the number you provided and - get this - a CM answered right away with no hold time!!!!!! I spoke with an amazing CM named Sam and told her my story. She was able to switch my Rez for reserved seating from the Oasis Pool to the Lava Pool in like 30 seconds. No offense to the great CMs working the Recreation phone-line, but it took that CM like 20 minutes even to find reserved pool seating at the Poly in the system (and this is after waiting on hold for 2-hours).

I cannot thank you (and Tikiman) enough. I’m definitely saving this number for future reference.

Please do let me know about your experience. Our Rez is not until August so I will be curious as to what you thought. I definitely want to know about the check-in time. We are switching from GF to Poly on the day of our reserved pool seating at Poly, and I probably won’t get to the Poly until about 11am. I know you can check-in at the pool starting at 10am, but I’m not sure if it’s a problem if we do not arrive until 11am.

We have a cabana rental at GF during our stay and I have heard that if you don’t show up at the GF pool by a certain time that they might rent your cabana to someone else. That seems weird to me knowing I have pre-paid, but I’m a little nervous about it.
Quick update… still here and enjoying every last minute! I can absolutely confirm that they will not give your spot away. We didn’t arrive until the afternoon because we got an invite to the DVC preview screening of the Jungle Book that morning, and it was awesome! The seating area is near the side entrance to the pool. Our rooms are in Tokelau, so it’s just about perfectly convenient spot. It’s great for watching kids play in the zero entry part of the pool, and you can see the exit from the water slide from one of the chairs. There will be a sign on the table stating Reserved for xxx Ohana. Everyone is right, the umbrella only shades the area in the morning hours.
I almost canceled when we were going to the movie, but am so glad I didn’t. It would have been impossible to get that many seats together in the afternoon, and although it’s only reserved until 6pm, nobody made us leave for the evening, and it’s nice and shady then. And as a bonus, one of the lounge chairs has a decent fireworks view for Happily Ever After.
I’d absolutely do it again.

I was in/out of the Lava Pool at various times every day last week - to me it felt pretty normal. You get peak day crowds where most chairs/lounges are full, but seems you can always find at least something. Shade is always at a premium at times.

I always wish Disney was better about removing used towels from chairs where guests leave but leave them sitting around, but just one of those things that happens at every hotel I guess. I actually liked it when they were doing COVID monitoring/cleaning since at least it kept chairs in regular rotation once available. Wouldn't be a problem if everyone would just clean up after themselves. :-)

We don't really lounge, so I just need one chair to put all our things.

I'm not sure if you've ever been on a Disney cruise, but guests leaving towels on chairs is a problem there, too. Drives me nuts!

For those arriving soon, pack your patience! The resort is everything wonderful it always has been, but you can tell everyone is stretched thin following the reopening. I was in a long line of people looking for a room assignment after 4pm who heard that the rooms just aren’t ready yet. I even had a front desk CM tell me that the DVC contract said check in wasn’t until after 5pm, and I should call member services if I had a problem with that. I was blown away by how rudely he spoke to me, and that he either really didn’t know what he was talking about, or flat-out lied. Also… some sort of system issue means that magic bands are not working to unlock doors until you physically go to the front desk and have them re-coded of some sort. The app works to open the door most of the time.
All that said, the resort is beautiful, I’m super happy to be here.

Just FYI for anyone following along.

The TTC was a mess and crowded for rope drop. I'll try the bus next time we go and report back.

TTC was fine for the evening not at rope drop.

We caught the first bus from poly this morning. It showed up at 759 and left at 802. We saw the resort monorail go overhead twice while waiting at stop. Only our group and one other on bus.

Bus seemed to take longer than TTC, we were definitely farther back in rope drop crowd.

Really appreciate everyone who has posted info to help navigate the reopening of the resort!

For those of you with recent stays at the Poly:

1) How were the crowds for fireworks on the beach?
2) How were the crowds at the Oasis and Lava Pools? Cabanas are sold out for our stay next weekend and I'm hoping getting chairs with umbrellas is not an issue.
3) I purposely did not put in any requests for my room, as getting into my room quickly is my top priority (arriving by 8am). How did check-in go with your arrival time?

Oh more than I thought. :thanks:

  • Fuji — All rooms facing East to the marina
  • All of Somoa — faces Lava Pool to the West; Oasis Pool to the East
  • Rarotonga — 2nd and 3rd floor facing Oasis Pool to the North
  • Niue — only two rooms of 2nd floor facing north east to Oasis Pool
