Whats going on at the Lava Pool?

Staying in DVC Studio in May. I just read there were permits pulled to do work on the Lava Pool that expire in late June.

Worried that they may close the pool during our stay. (5/16 through 5/21)

To date there have been no announcements of any work or closure to the Lava Pool itself. The adjacent kids splash area is closed through March for work, but it isn’t impacting the Lava Pool.

Curious where you saw the info about permits pulled? It’s certainly possible and you never know with Disney (and they’re also sometimes poor at announcing things).

I read it in an article from Dec. 2020 on******:
Permit Filed for Possible Moana Themed Elements Being Added to Lava Pool at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort”

I read it in this article from Dec. 2020:

Ahh, yes, I recall that now, thanks. That could be for the current work underway at the splash pad, or could be for something else - hard/impossible to say.

The Lava Pool was a part of the major 2014-2015 renovation so my ‘guess’ would be that any major work to the Lava Pool itself would be unlikely, but TBD of course.

(FYI, the website you posted is a filtered/banned site on the DIS so I removed it from your post)

Any building recommendations during the construction (staying on the DVC side obviously)?

I also came across this on TripAdvisor. "Closed until 4/29/2021, Hmmmmmpoly.jpg555406

Wow, another thing closed at the resort. My kids were looking forward to the splash area. We go in two weeks. Should we stay at the Poly or change to GF?

I would personally switch to GF. Too many things taken away from Poly IMO, for it to be the place to stay right now. Love GF and the POLY.

All of the DVC buildings are well removed from the Great Ceremonial House / Monorail work. From what I've read on here, the room construction isn't particularly disruptive.

Moorea and Pago Pago are most removed from the construction, and closes to the TTC if you want to catch the monorail there.

Half of Pago Pago are parking lot view rooms (yuck) and half of Moorea are Lake View rooms, whereas all of Tokelau is lovely.

If it were me, I would still request Tokelau. The location is a nice balance between PVB and TTC, and you don't risk getting stuck with a bad view anywhere in that building.

But a garden-side room in Moorea or Pago Pago would be great too!

One thing to bear in mind is Pago Pago is now the check in area for the resort, so some rooms near the makeshift "lobby" may have more noise from the hallways or magical express out in the parking lot with people arriving later at night. So that might give a slight edge to Moorea if you are looking for minimal disruption.

TripAdvisor has been misstating reopening dates of various Disney resorts for months. Really no rhyme or reason to it--they don't have any special info. The Disney website still anticipates "Summer 2021" for the Poly resort side (not DVC) reopening, and April seems wayyy to early if you ask me.

That would be good news. However it will be one of the last things to open since it's normal capacity pre-pandemic was only 51 guests.

Polynesian Transportation update:
Ticket & Transportation Center (TTC) monorail & ferry start 30-45 minutes prior to Magic Kingdom(MK) opening. Currently MK opens at 9:00am, security, health check and transportation starts between 8:15-8:30am.
There is a Gold Route bus that starts at 7:00am runs to Grand Floridian to Contemporary to Polynesian until 30 minutes prior to MK opening.
Watercraft Service from Polynesian to MK to Grand Floridian starts 30 minutes prior to MK opening.
I wasn’t aware there is a bus going between the monorail resorts. For rope drop, do some take a bus to the Contemporary or GF and then walk from there to MK?

The morning bus runs since the resort monorail is not currently stopping at the Poly. Yes you can take it to the GF or CR for breakfast or to walk to the MK.

Before the monorail station closed the resort monorail ran early but did not stop at the MK platform early.

I’d love to stay at the Poly but I don’t want to go during construction. If I go, I wanna do it right especially at a place like the Poly.

When is construction supposed to be done?

Is the boat running to MK? If so, is there a set schedule?

Yes, it’s running. Shares w/ GF usually. Starts around an hour before park opening. No set schedule, the boat just makes a constant loop from Poly, MK, GF, Poly, etc. Timing can depend on if they have one or two boats running. Last I was there they’d put two boats in rotation around rope drop but then one the rest of the day. You’ll sometimes see variations of exact procedures but that’s the gist of it.

Disney usually never really announces an end date to resort work, and they haven’t here. Resort side rooms are available to book starting 7/19. But TBD if that means everything will be done by then, or some rooms will be done and they’ll still be working on others and the front entrance, etc.

My guess is there won’t be some magic moment everything opens, instead, a more rolling process as things come back online. I’m just speculating though.

Supposedly “Summer 2021”. But I keep hearing July/Aug timeframe. I’ve been watching videos and folks are saying its actually nice with Ohana closed right now. Resort is not as busy and its quieter.
