Yikes - these recent threads are making me really nervous to book 3 rooms (not DVC) at the Poly in 2018 for $$$$$. I'm sure there are great reviews...I haven't made it back through the 400+ pages but I'll be really bummed if we feel like it's a sub-par experience. I don't have expectations of getting the exact room requests we submit. But I do expect clean rooms, friendly CMs, and an atmosphere that corresponds with the price paid compared to value resorts. Our priority is location to transportation which is what puts us at a monorail hotel. Fingers crossed...
We love the poly for the transportation. Our go to parks are MK and Epcot and we only visit the other 2 for a morning each.
I don't expect anything when we go other then a bed, running water and a toilet!
When I request, I just request a building as my top request, which was Tokelau ore DVC...sigh...
I don't care about the view because honestly we are rarely out there. Some would say why do you spend that much money if you don't spend time in your room. For us, it's the Epcot/MK monorail, the pool with the bestest view, the sounds of the MK and the Seven Seas Lagoon, etc....
The first time I went with a kid of my own, our bathroom had not been touched, the previous owners didn't even flush their friggin pee...seriously how gross! So I called and they gave us a new room. It didn't make my trip any worse because I was in Disney and at the Poly. So basically going back to my first sentence, I don't expect too much because I know why I am at the poly for the reasons I mentioned.
It's not our first visit, but it will be our first time for the littles and the first time staying onsite. With the ages of the kids at the time of the trip, we have to make proximity to transportation a top priority (especially with baby 13 months who will be on a different schedule than the 4 and 5 year olds of the family). Sigh...we have friends with young ones who recently stayed at a value resort (can't remember which one) and they said they ate up a lot of time in bus transportation and waiting for buses. Trying to avoid that - at whatever cost (guess I shouldn't say that!) Also considering the GF but I think the kids will find the Poly theme more entertaining - just got back from Maui with them. Guess I will have to keep reading - still lots of time before May '18.
My kids LOVE the poly! My oldest has gone 4 times (she is 15). First time She was 15 mo and it was so easy to get back for mid day breaks wit the stroller. 2nd time she was almost 5, ds was almost 2, I can't recall if my oldest did the slide or not. Next time they were 7, almost 5 and 2 and I know my oldest had sore legs on pool days because she was on that slide all day. The last trip they were 12, 9 and 7 and pool days we only spoke to them when they wanted food or a drink. Disclaimer: We did watch them and didn't rely on the lifeguards to watch our children but they were either going up and down the slide or playing pool games.
They are now 15, 13 and 10 and can't wait to go back to the Poly....well Disney. But we aren't going until 2018.
