Another question about online check in vs waiting to get there, I thought I read somewhere that if you decide to wait to check in when you arrive, that if you do not like your room assignment that you can change it right away with the CM at the desk. is that right?
Not necessarily. Depending on what you are hoping for, occupancy, time, you name it, CMs can't always change your assignment. I have watched people get very upset at CMs at multiple resorts over such things.

You can certainly inquire about a different room, whether you do OCI or check in at the resort. It's not guaranteed the CM will be able to make the change, but it never hurts to ask. With that said, Disney is usually very accommodating (when possible) and will do everything they can to get you a room you will be happy with :).

Did you get this before or after breakfast? What is the fastest way to eat? I read from another post that Cook's can take awhile? Did you find that to be true too? Trying to decide if we should pack stuff to eat in our room, or there is time to eat something larger and still make rope drop.

I went early, while my daughter and niece "slept in". Kona café (next door) was not yet open for breakfast. Possibly around 6:45/7am?
Unfortunately, I just looked on the Disney site and, although there's a Breakfast menu in the drop-down menu, it does not show Kona Island being open until 12pm each day??

Not sure what's up with that. Might be a cutback, which will stink! I will find out in about 2 weeks!

I definitely recommend taking items to have for breakfast in the mornings. We rarely sit down and eat breakfast in a restaurant before going to the parks (unless it's a pre-park opening breakfast.) I like to get up and out! If you go to CC's for breakfast, your husband could run up and grab his coffee while you wait for your food.

Don't forget, there will be a coffeemaker (small, Cuisinart 2-cup) in your room. But you cannot brew your own coffee in it. It uses pods/discs of coffee that Housekeeping leaves for you.

Doing online check in has nothing to do with your ability to request a different room if you don't like the one you're assigned. We really like a balcony, and requested one with online check in. Was assigned a 2nd floor room (no balcony) so I asked at the desk when they gave me room if I could change. I had to wait a day to get a balcony. We had a 14 day stay so moving the next day wasn't a big deal.

Cook's can take a while. There were a couple mornings last fall that DH finally went back up the counter and checked on our food because it was taking so long.

I did see people getting leis last week. We went straight to our room, so never got one. There is also a mug refill station at the Oasis pool that is open from 7-5. We were in a dvc studio in Tokelau, so I ran out every morning and filled our mugs at the Oasis pool. It was very convenient!
Was there coffee at the oasis pool in the am too? Or just soft drinks?

About what time does Captain Cooks start backing up. My husband and I are early risers, so we are usually at the food courts around 7:00am.

Joining in on the coffee discussion! So if I want coffee at 6:30 am, is my best bet making it in my room?

Yes there was coffee, but since I don't drink coffee (and it was over 100 degrees outside every day of our visit and I wasn't looking for warm beverages) I didn't pay much attention. I did see cream, sugar, etc... sat out along with coffee but I don't know what type, etc. They open these drink stations at 7 am. I went every morning and filled our mugs!

Good Morning Poly Peeps!

We were able to add that extra night to our stay and we are paid in full! 41 days until our first stay at the Poly. I will be staying 6 nights in a standard view with my Mom and my 7 year old son. DH and DD20 are sitting this one out (not fans of the August heat). My son doesn't know about the trip yet. He has been asking to go to Hawaii so I showed him pics of Poly and said maybe one day we could stay there and feel like we're in Hawaii. He thought that was a cool idea. So the night before we leave I am going to put together a little luau to tell him the news. This will be his 6th trip to WDW but I know staying at Poly is going to make this trip extra special. So excited!!!

Not a great start, had to load all of our own stuff, magic bands don't work, CM not very helpful

I'm sorry to hear that. When you said load all your own stuff, do you mean that the bell hops wouldn't help you with luggage? That's bizarre! The non-helpful CM is another big issue. Your first day should be wonderful. What's going on over there lately?

We check in in 5 days - hoping not to experience these same things.

That's odd, because I was also looking at it and it says "Say “aloha” to coffee and pastries in the morning and made-to-order sushi and sashimi beginning at noon."

Can anyone there now let us know if Kona Island is open in the morning, and if so what time they open? TIA!!!

Another question, is Captain Cooks open 24 hours?

Kona Island is showing as open at 6:30am today on the WDW website.

Capt. Cook's is open until 11pm nightly - or was the last time we stayed at the Poly (2015)

Oh thank goodness. When I go to the site it doesn't show morning hours. So odd.
All that matters to me is that I can get some delicious coffee first thing in the morning:banana:
