Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

Hi everyone I have a question about the Polynesian, with the construction and DVC addition at the Polynesian has anyone else had trouble getting a regular room (non-DVC) booked? In previous years we've never had problems getting a reservation at the Polynesian even just a couple months in advance. This year I've been calling off and on since May and cannot catch any availability for a garden view room at the time we want to go (September). I know we got a late start trying to get a room, it was a last minute decision to try and go and I'm wondering if I just picked a bad time frame or if maybe some longhouses are not open due to construction. I'll keep calling, but I'm starting to get discouraged about the possibility or getting a room at the poly at all. We might end up having to stay elsewhere or waiting until next year...
I think it has more to do with half the resort inventory now DVC then any TA discount. This discount has been going on for years. But now that 50% of rooms taken out of inventory and made into DVC will have a huge affect on room availability in the future.

This is going to sound crazy, I know, but I'm having a hard time getting a clear picture of what is still under construction at Poly. There's a ton of info out there but it all assumes you know your way around the resort. I have a reservation at CR in September but am thinking of changing to Poly, but only if the construction is pretty much complete by then. Can anyone point me to a good summary of where they are?

I don't know if we have the whole picture, but what info is out has been soon the East Pool will close and construction will begin in that area putting in a new pool, hot tub & pool bar. This is pretty much in the middle of the resort area. You can see it on resort map. There may be more construction going on, but no details have been leaked out. So we're as in the dark as you.

Just returned from a week stay at the Poynesian, Samoa, pool side! (May 27 - June 3) Loved the location for a great view and close to Great Ceremonial House! However, if you have napping children or like to go to sleep before 11pm, the noise level from the pool could be too much. There are a lot of fences up, but walkways were open to get where we needed. East (quiet) pool was still open! Resort seemed less crowded than I would have thought. Probably from the construction scare and there were buildings being rehabbed. Thought attendance at parks would be a little lighter since a lot of schools in USA weren't out yet, but parks were terribly crowded! Just had to make use of EMH! Extra evening hours were more crowded than morning! Still think the Polynesian is the best place to stay!

Happy to read your concluding sentence! Had me scared for a minute!

Anyone know which end of the Hawaii building the elevator is located on? The Lounge end, or the other end? Thanks! :)

Just booked our first visit to the Poly for Sept! 5-7th, I will be visiting my sister and nieces/nephew on their first ever trip. Got that very popular deal so I figured why not! So super excited! Poly has always been on my Disney bucket list!

Just saw the updated pictures on Tikiman's FB page - love all of the new foliage going in outside of Hawaii and I LOVE the fact that all of the fences are down! Our trip on June 30th - July 7th seems to be perfectly timed!!!! 19 days to go until paradise!

Yes, I agree! I think we "chatted" before about us being there at the same time and from Tikiman's last post on FB we may just be there at the right time! Regardless, we'll be at the Poly and it'll still be great no matter what is going on construction-wise.

Has anything changed with the parking in the last 5 years? Is there now an area designated for guests staying there? TIA

Planning a first WDW trip for October of 2016.
Has the addition of the bungalows affected the fireworks or the EWP view from the beach or the CL Hawaii building? Since the preferred long houses have been converted to DVC, would you recommend forking over the extra money for club lounge (upper floors, garden view or doesn't matter) or a certain longhouse for views or extra convenience?

Not that I noticed (there 2 weeks ago). We parked in the same general area. I think they may be stricter though on letting people park there. We used our MBs to get in and out.

Hi again! I totally agree! The Poly is our favorite resort by far and we took a break last year to explore other resorts during the major pool/GCH construction - I am so giddy that we are finally going back!! 18 days until we arrive! Woohoo!!!

I'm not sure why my ticker won't update... I keep redoing it but it just won't update each day... any ideas??

Staying in November for the first time. I was a little hesitant because of the construction. My heart was set on it so I booked it as I have always dreamed of staying here. The letter I received stated their will be construction at the East pool during our visit. I was aware of this and feel that it will in no way impact our trip in a negative way. My question is how come others have said that there are many other projects that will be going on because of the work permits applied for, but they don't give specifics. If there are so many work permits for specific areas, why is that not in Disney's letter? I understand there can always be some type of work going on at the resorts, but this just fascinates me that only the East pool is stated in their letter. Thanks.

Quick question....I read somewhere (in these vast threads) that you could request a microwave for your room (at check-in). Is this correct? Has anyone asked and received a microwave?

I saw mousekeeping bringing one to someone's room last week. If they can't supply one in your room, there is one at the food court for guest use.

I think because the easy pool is the only "major" project planned. Other things going on now are putting in walkways and adding foliage. I would think if they started something else major, they'd send another letter.

I know nothing about tickers which is why I don't have one. :sad1: Sorry.
