Does anyone have any thoughts on the Niue longhouse? Right now I requested Samoa but if I don't get that request I'm thinking about asking about Niue. We'd like a first floor room if in Niue but I'm worried about a lot of foot traffic. Can anyone whose ever stayed in this longhouse share your thoughts? Thanks!

Stayed there once and have requested it for my next trip. I loved it b/c it's tiny and is such a great location. No problem with foot traffic, IMO.

+1 ;)
We requested Niue for our stay in August.

I wouldnt expect to be hearing people, being on the first floor...at least not enough to bother me. What would make me feel slightly uncomfortable is if I was facing a walkway, then people could see directly into the room, especially during the evenings. I prefer to not have the curtains/drapes closed all the time.

Not that I noticed (there 2 weeks ago). We parked in the same general area. I think they may be stricter though on letting people park there. We used our MBs to get in and out.

Can you tell me how this working with parking? Is there a real person at the gate too? Last time I stayed, we rented a car. Will be doing the same this trip. When we came back from a water park or AK around 5pm, I couldnt find a spot anywhere to park. I would have to circle the lot for 20+ minutes. Same with returning from the BBQ and HDDR. After the 4th -5th time, I mentioned something at the front desk. They offered to Valet my car for free for the reminder of our stay..which I declined. I didnt want to be tipping $10+ dollars a day for Valet when I should be able to park my vehicle for free. The worst was the MNSSHP nights. People would be coming off the monorail all dressed in costume, then go right downstairs and into their cars.

Staying for our first Poly stay starting August 12. This was a bit of a shock to us. We didn't plan on going until next year, but we got an amazing deal

I am so excited to be here in this thread. Our number one choice of resorts. We love the BC and WL, but always wanted to try the Poly

Trader Sam's here we come!

There are two lines. One that has a staff person and the other has a MB detector. When we went to other resorts, we would be stopped and asked for ID and we would let them know we had an ADR there, which we did. They did not check though if we did, so I think theoretically people could lie to park at Poly.

I do believe that Tikiman has posted before that at busier times, they really do check that you have an ADR or some legitimate reason to be there and were turning people away who said things like they "just wanted to check out the resort."

So, I had originally thought of requesting a 1st floor room, but now after reading this I was thinking I don't want people walking by my room all the time and having to keep the drapes closed!!! What are your experiences with this? Was it an issue, did you like 1st floor patio, or prefer 3rd floor balcony? We will have DS (3.5) with us if that helps.

On another note - are there locks on the top of the patio/balcony doors that kids can't reach?

We loved our first floor patio - when DD was 2.5 she could run around in the grass outside while we sat on the patio - it was nice to feel like you had a bit of a yard! We have requested that again for this trip (DD is 4.5 now) and really hope to have it! I can't remember about the locks but I know that DD couldn't have pulled that door open - it was a hard one to slide open!

How exciting, you will love the Poly! We just got back from a split stay at Poly/BC and had a wonderful time! Did online check in and got our request Figi, 3 floor, no construction noise, only negative was the unsightly fences while walking to TTC. We loved Kona's for breakfast,(love me some tonga toast:)) and had a blast at Trader SAMs. Try to get a seat at the bar, the bartenders and "magical" bar stools are hilarious.
Have a great trip!

Thank you!!! Did you feel like people were looking in your room all the time (like walking right by)? What building were you in? Decisions Decisions :)

Hope we get our requests too if Fiji 3rd floor. What side were you on? Marina or garden?

And here is how close the pathway by the marina is to the Fiji patios on that side

Yikes, that's way too close. I prefer 3rd floor balcony!

Are second floor rooms awful? No patio or balcony

No, they arent bad at all. When my kids were toddlers, I actually preferred 2nd fl. I didnt want them getting out to the balcony and I didnt want 1st FL. I have 3 kids, so with the 5 of us, we all take turns in the bathroom getting ready for dinner. While one is getting ready, mostly the others are just lying on the beds watching TV. Nothing to see ... but just a little uncomfortable with people seeing clearly into the room at night. 3rd fl, I can keep the drapes open and if anyone wants to take the effort to catch a glimpse of us lying around, they are more than welcome to do so!

I've stayed at Poly 4 times, and the first 3 times I never got my request of a patio or balcony. I loved all of these stays and thought the rooms were fantastic (so definitely not awful!). However, this last trip we got a balcony (huzzah!!) and I have to say, it was pretty amazing. It felt like an extra room altogether. We ate our CC breakfast and watched the monorails go by. I am really going to try for a balcony again this next time!
