Question about microwaves: I know they aren't in the rooms, but can we request one?

I just returned from a trip from June 29 - July 5. We had a very rocky first few days. We were put in Samoa facing the East Pool, and our room had a giant UV machine plugged in and making scary noises and the room reeked of cigarette smoke. We went to the front desk and they said sure enough, the room wasn't even supposed to be given to a guest for 3 more days. They apologized and moved us 2 doors down. There was a cherry picker outside our door beeping loudly and a guy sawing on our non existent second floor balcony, replacing the wood there. We were trying to nap after a long flight. We called and complained and they said he would be done in 5 minutes. Four hours later, he was still there, only one door down. We called and told them this and they moved us to another room on the other side of Samoa, facing the feature pool. I requested a room outside of Samoa but they said they had nothing available at that time. We headed out to the parks at night, and then came back and got a good night's sleep. The next afternoon, we came back from Animal Kingdom to nap at noon and they were replacing siting on our building, RIGHT where our room was. It was SO LOUD. We called the front desk and they transferred us to the room locator who heard how loud it was, gave us a $50 room credit and finally listened to me and moved us to Fiji. We were so happy! We get to Fiji and then the room we had was already someone else's room? Another family that had just checked in was given the room and we arrived around the same time. So we call and were moved AGAIN, to a room that was only one King bed. No way me and my sister are sharing a bed with the price we paid! So we called...yes again and were finally moved to a wonderful room in Fiji facing the beach and it was a wonderful room for the last 4 nights of our trip.

We were so frustrated that my sister and I were both in tears and I went to the front desk and spoke to the manager on duty and he really tried to make things right. I explained to him that this was our first trip without our parents and we were really just feeling like going home after having to move around so much. The manager comped our dinner at Ohana that night, gave us a $100 room credit, and gave us access to the King Kamehameha lounge in Hawaii for July 1 - 4. We also came back to signed pictures of Mickey, some Mickey balloons (since we were there celebrating our birthday) and cute stuffed alien Stitches that night after dinner. Jonathan was an amazing person to arrange all of that for us, and he really saved our trip! He even came to check up on us a few more times during our last few days. He really went above and beyond to make things magical for us.

But other than the room situation we have no complaints. Crowds were lower than we expected, we never waited longer than 20 minutes for anything, and we didn't feel crowded at the MK on the 3rd or at Epcot on the 4th. Monorail access was AMAZING - we don't think we can ever go back to buses again. Even with the peach(?) line monorail to Epcot breaking down on the fourth and causing a backup at the TTC, it was so convenient and fast and fun. Captain Cooks was yummy, all of the staff at Poly went above and beyond to be nice and helpful, and we didn't really encounter any problems at the pool except for a lady on July 4 who tried taking my Stitch beach towel and the lifeguard had to go and get it from her for me because she yelled at me to get the h*** away from her when I approached her about it. As it turns out after they scanned her magic band, she wasn't even staying there and had brought her kids over from another resort. They were giving out armbands by that point so we were scanned to get ours and were glad to have them on because they were scanning a lot of people at various points around the resort that day! I really felt like the staff there took care of me and my sister, which was nice because we're both teenagers (I'm in college, she's still in high school) that have never traveled alone before.

New pic on Tikiman's FB of Samoa getting a "facelift".

Ugggh this facelift is why we had to move rooms so many times during our stay. It was really frustrating to not have the room locators listen to us when we begged to be put in a building that wasn't Samoa. We ended up going through 5 rooms before we finally got in a room we could use in Fiji. It didn't ruin our trip but definitely frustrated the heck out of us on our first Poly trip!

Anyone recently back from Club Level with a weekly menu of the morning and evening offerings?? I'd like to know what they're serving on which days. Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know if they have smore's kits at the poly during the campfire?

They did last week! It was really more of a stick and a marshmallow, they didn't have whole s'more kits, or maybe they were just out of them by the time that me and my sister got there.

Yes, at the actual campfire they only provide marshmallows and sticks. The Moana Mecantile shop will have Hershey Bars and Graham Crackers for sale. They are separate items, not packaged together as a kit.

Jeez - kind of a comedy of errors. I don't know where to even begin to comment but I'm glad that in the end you were happy and that the manager took an interest in "making things right" for you and your sister. You're so young - it is a lesson learned. Next time I think you'll be at the front desk before you're even placed in the second room ;)
Thank you for the report and good to know (psychotic) pool hoppers are still finding their way in :rotfl:

Oh my gosh, what a start to your trip. I'm so glad they made things right for you. I wondered if they'd start handing out wristbands like they do at the BC/YC.

Oh my Gosh! This sounds mostly horrendous! It seems like the manager did everything he could do, but for me, it would have been too late. I've been second-guessing our move to CR from Poly since we did it back in February, but methinks we made the right choice. We have a standard view in the garden wing at CR, so I know the scenery won't exactly be beautiful, but it at least seems like the resort is up and running in its entirety, and for me, that's piece of mind!

Wow! What a start! I'm glad the duty manager made it right for you.
That's crazy about the woman trying to steal your towel, AND screaming at you to get away  good that she was caught. Just goes to show, thieves are everywhere. I never bring anything of value to the pool, just a book, & sunscreen. I leave everything else in room phone & wallet in safe. I've heard of special Disney towels being stolen, mostly at water park. Even mugs :confused3

I look forward to hearing about your CR stay Scott. CR & BW are the only 2 deluxe we haven't stayed at. Mostly because they are the least appealing to me. But think I'd enjoy the garden wing more than tower at CR. I enjoy some green space.

Not a good way to start your vacation but I'm glad the manager did right by you and your sister and that the rest of your trip was much better, well, except for the nasty lady who tried to steal your towel...unbelievbable!

I have to say Scott, that we were very surprised by how much we liked CR last October. For some reason, the the look and layout never appealed to us but in my quest to try every deluxe, we went for it and are so glad we did. Being so close to the MK and having the ability to walk right in....priceless!!

We honestly cannot wait to return next month and are hoping our girls enjoy their first stay as much as we did.

Hope you enjoy it just as much...do report back :).

I have read the the quiet pool would close after 4th of July weekend or at end of summer. Anyone know if it is still open?

Thank you both very much!
