Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

Only DVC has balconies on 2. All hotel-side units have no balcony on 2.

Yes, this is why I was wondering about the online check in options, and whether or not you could request a balcony. I know you can usually request "lower floor" and "upper floor" at some of the other resort online check in options, but that doesn't really exclude the middle ground where there are no balconies.

Which is why it's still best to call and add any requests to your reservation. This way you can request exactly what you want and aren't tied to the generic and very limited options during Online Check In.

Taking DME to Poly. How many other resorts does it usually stop at before Poly?

I haven't used DME in a while but in the past it has stopped at WL and CR first before Poly. I think maybe once it was just Poly and GF. It can change depending on crowds.

I'm so so excited for our upcoming stay in April at the Polynesian! It's for our first wedding anniversary and I couldn't be more thrilled to stay there. My husband and I are usually the type to stay in the parks all day, but this time, we're specifically carving out time to take breaks back at the hotel to go to the pool, take a nap, hang out at the Tiki Terrace, etc. However, I can't decide what to request for our online check in! We booked a garden view. I definitely want the third floor balcony. We'd prefer a king bed since it's just the two of us, but not fussed either way (I'll call WDW to request that though). It seems that Samoa and Raratonga are our choices. I'm leaning toward Samoa, but does it get too noisy since it's right between the two pools?

Also, when I call to request the king bed, should I also say that it's our anniversary? I know I shouldn't expect anything, but I figure it can hurt to add that tidbit to our reservation!

The Poly is amazing and is a great resort for an anniversary trip! We've only stayed in Samoa and loved it. The location is great as it's just steps from everything, but we didn't find it too loud/noisy. As far as noting your anniversary, I would have it added. Like the pp said, it can't hurt. Hope you have a great trip :wizard:.

I agree :thumbsup2.

I think there are like 5 options for online check-in. One of them is a longhouse, the others are like "upper/lower/patio/balcony." Not even a "near transportation" or "near elevator."

I would recommend away from elevator anyway, though.

We are booked for 7/2-7/9 standard view studio for both the 4th of July and my birthday! Poly has always been my bucket list AND we have a cabana booked for July 3rd. Our question is: where is the best place to watch 4th of July fireworks? We are trying to avoid going into MK that night and since TOTWL isn't open to nonBLT dvc for those dates, we just want to stay at Poly.

Thanks!
You are going to love this resort- until last November it was my bucket list item too! :) You absolutely can't beat this resort for so many reasons, but one of the best things to do is to sit on the beach outside of the resort, Dole Whip in hand, with a straight-shot of the evening fireworks at Magic Kingdom- it's Disney perfection in my opinion.

Staying at the Poly has always been a "if I win the lottery" dream, but we are seriously considering it for our next trip in January 2018 after taking some time to walk around the grounds a few weeks ago. It would definitely be a standard view room. I've been checking out the Touring Plans room finder and when I plug in Standard/Deluxe Studio as an option, it gives me three longhouses: Tokelau, Pago Pago, and Moorea. If we have a choice, we'd like to request Tokelau as it is closest to the main building. But, I recall reading that Tokelau is a DVC building. Are non-DVC folks able to request this building? I know we'll be happy with whichever building we end up in, but didn't want to request it if there wasn't a chance of getting it. We were originally planning to go back to POFQ, which we really love, but with some credit card points and tax refunds burning a hole in our pocket, we thought this might be the time to splurge and stay someplace we wouldn't ordinarily be able to afford.

I've always skipped over the Poly thread since I never expected to stay here, but I'm slowly working my way through all 484 pages.

Hi there! Moorea, Pago Pago, and Tokelau are all DVC buildings, or "villas." You can sometimes, but not always, book on the DVC side with a cash-only reservation. Is that what you want to do, or do you want the "regular" hotel side? That will help focus a better response.

I think I want the "regular" hotel side. What's confusing me is using the room finder on Touring Plans. The only option in the search area for a standard room is "standard/deluxe studio" which displays only rooms in the DVC buildings. Which of the longhouses have standard view rooms? Maybe that's the place to start.

Thanks for explaining. That makes sense.

I'd start with the regular hotel side if I were you. You can look into the DVC side via cash reservation later when you have your barings.

What you want to search on that TP page is any of the "Garden" room types. Specifically, the large majority of rooms are "Garden/2 Queen Beds." Those are the same as what Disney calls "Standard View" on their website.

When you look at Disney's site, make sure you're looking under the Polynesian Village Resort (regular hotel side), not Polynesian Villas & Bungalows (which is the DVC side).

That make sense?

Just a warning, TP is useful in a general sense, but information can be spotty at times.

Ask away with any Qs, lots of knowledgeable folks around.

Thanks guys!!!! He's only in kindergarten but he's really tall! So he looks so much older than he really is!
My husband and 5'11 son both went down the slide there. There were tons of older kids up there playing. It's the main reason we rebooked there. My daughter didn't even want to look at any other resort after staying there in September. They spent very little time in the pools.

Thank you! This is so helpful. We had great luck with the TP room finder in January, ending up with the exact room we requested, but things weren't adding up right when I started looking at the Poly.

eighty8keys (love the piano, BTW) you cold always rent DVC points.

I added a room request of Fiji third floor is that a good request or do you think that is too much?

Last time we stayed there at Poly was 2003 I think... so it's all different now...

GADisneyDad answered your question about the rooms, but I wanted to say that the Poly is an amazing resort! If you choose to stay there, you will love it! Happy planning :wizard:.

I think it's a good request and not too much :).

Not many people get the piano reference. :)

Hadn't thought about renting points. That is definitely something to consider.
Look in to point renting carefully before you do. Poly is very popular and it is hard to find points from someone who owns there. Given you are looking at January you might have luck renting at the 7 month mark (when they will accept reservations from any DVC property owner, not just Poly) but if you are hoping to book soon you might just want a regular cash hotel room.

Funny, I am in the exact same boat as you. We stayed at BLT and I absolutely love the Contemporary but after walking around Poly and having drinks at Trader Sam's it is at the top of our short-list for our next trip.

Does anyone know if the "rope fence" is still up around the 7SL? I saw a recent pic of the Poly beach and it looked like the rocks were there but that the "fence" was gone?

There are rocks on the waterline, then a rope fence with a net-like material on it and large warning signs every few posts. It is a different fence than the original temporary one that was installed but similar looking.
