Disney's Magical Express -- Luggage Tag Info

We are arriving at MCO at 11:50 p.m. Do I even need to use the yellow tags for Magical Express since we will have to get our own luggage from baggage claims? Do I need them on when we take luggage to the bus?
:welcome:

No need for the tags, you can just leave them at home.

The only reason for the luggage tags is so that the luggage handlers can route your bags through the Disney's Magical Express automatic luggage delivery system. Since your bags won't be going through the DME system, having DME tags on them will be useless.

I've received my tags yesterday but there's only one for my husband and one for me. Nothing mentionning our daughter or son. Is it because they are under 3 years old?

Most likely. Are they listed on the room reservation? And do they have a paid seat on the airline???
If they have a paid seat on the airline, then I would call DME and request 2 more luggage tags. But if they aren't listed on the room reservation, that may be an issue.

They are listed on the room reservation. My daughter has a seat. My son is only 4 months old so he doesn't.

If my flight is not scheduled to land until 950pm at night will I be able to still use the luggage transfer part of DME? (I notice they don't complete the luggage transfer after 1000pm).

Do they do the luggage transfer after 1000pm for flights scheduled to land prior to 1000pm but their luggage hasn't made it off the plan by 1000pm?

Nope, their operation closes at 10pm whether flights are delayed or not.

Put your yellow tags on.

If your plane makes it to the GATE by 9:50pm or earlier, then you will be fine. If it is after 10pm when your plane makes it to the gate, then go to the carousel to look for your luggage.

Talked to a DVC operator yesterday, and a few times before, with mixed results...

yesterday's operator stated if you leave your luggage with a yellow tag at MCO after the 10pm close, it WILL find its way to your room the next day.

My previous calls were told no, the luggage will not make it.

Supposedly there were too many complaints from guests receiving their luggage after 2am. Since it takes 3-5 hours for luggage to be routed from MCO to your room, DME placed a 10pm cut off.

Can anyone confirm that this is true? I have no issues with my luggage arriving the next morning.

I've never done it, but from what I understand, after 10pm, the DME luggage people go home. Luggage is no longer pulled backstage, it is all sent out to the carousels, yellow tags or not. Then when the luggage is not claimed, the airport officials take the luggage into the unclaimed baggage offices. The next morning, the DME folks go through the unclaimed baggage offices and grab any yellow-tagged luggage and place it in the system at that time.

So, if you don't care if your bags roll around on the carousel, and then sit in the airport overnight, then feel free to just leave them. They will get pulled and sent over the next morning.

I honestly will probably do the same if the occasion arises. I have everything I need for 24 hours in my carryon, and actually have everything I need for a weekend in an Owner's Locker.

So I just got my DME packet in the mail today. The packet only had 1 yellow tag in it with my name. My boyfriend is also on the reservation and name is on the vouchers but there is no tag for him. I also know that when we went in June we had 2 tags a piece. Do I just call the reservation number and request more? We don't leave till Jan 29th so there is plenty of time. Thanks

You probably got lucky if you both got two tags each last year. Disney has been sending out one tag pp on the reservation for a couple of years now. You can just call them and get more tags. I would do it this week so they have plenty of time to get them to you.

We got our DME packet a few weeks ago in the mail, but that was before we changed resorts from POFQ to WL. I changed the ressie on 12/20, and the CM said we should get a new ME packet. We leave 1/25. If we don't get a new ME packet (for whatever reason), what do we do? I assume we have to go to the ME counter before getting into the line to board the ME? We haven't decided whether we'll be checking bags or not yet, but I assume those yellow tags won't be correct because our resort info. is different?

We're flying Virgin America, and I know that means we can't do airline check-in at our resort, but we can still use the yellow tags, right?

You asked 2 different questions.

1) As long as your RESERVATION number is the same for WL as it was for POFQ, then your current tags are just fine. With a black Sharpie, you can carefully cross out POFQ on your luggage tags, as well as the "DD" code inside the Mickey head. You can carefully write "Wilderness Lodge" on the tag. But don't touch the bar code! The bar code is a "computer-ese" version of your reservation number. The bar code is how your luggage really gets routed. The barcode will be scanned, it will access your resort reservation in the system, and the system will say that you have a reservation at WL. Easy as pie.

2) The yellow DME tags are used ONLY for routing your checked bags on your arrival day. They have NOTHING to do with the day you go home, they have nothing to do with Resort Airline Check-in. No one is mailed any DME luggage tags that have anything to do with the final day of your trip.

Thank you for the response.

-Sigh...not the same reservation # because we changed from a room-only reservation to a package. So, I guess I'll be calling to see if they are sending new luggage tags.

-Ok, so if we get the correct luggage tags, then the luggage will get picked up on arrival.

We are leaving in a week and I forgot to make ME reservations. At least I think I didn't, we don't have luggage tags anyway. Since the luggage handling is the best part of the service I'm not happy with myself.

So, does going to the ME desk and giving them luggage claim tickets work well? I assume our luggage will go round and round the carousel until someone from ME claims it. Has anyone had problems doing this?

If you don't have the luggage tags, then yes, DME will send someone to grab your bags for you. But be sure to call and make that reservation. You can't just walk up to the DME counter, without an advance reservation, and get on a bus.

Call the phone number on the DME packet!!!

Don't call Disney reservations!!

This has been the set procedure since Day One, more than 5 years ago. In all that time, literally NO ONE has come here to The DIS and reported a problem using that method.

After you clear U.S. Customs there is a "bag drop" where you can get your bags back into the system. If it were me, I'd just hold onto my bags at that point. But that's just me.

If you want, you can take the luggage tags with you and put them on your bags after you clear Customs, before you put them into the "bag drop" area.
