Disney's Magical Express -- Luggage Tag Info

I just upgraded from Pop to CR and we arrive this Thursday. The agent told my TA that I should use my Pop yellow tags and just cross out Pop and write CR that once they get scanned, they will see the correct location in their system.
Is this correct?

Also, should I change the AK area symbol to MK symbol?

Yes, your TA got correct info!

The barcode is, basically, your reservation number in computer-readable form. When you changed from Pop to CR you kept the same reservation number, right? Then the barcode will do its job ... when the barcode is read, the computer will access your reservation number in the databse and see that the luggage should be sent to CR.

Absolutely, yes, CAREFULLY cross out "Pop Century" on the tags, making sure to leave the barcode totally untouched. And yes, crossing out the "AK" inside the Mickey head can only help, not hurt.

Thanks Eric! :thumbsup2 (Yes, my ressie # stayed the same) But I will still stick an extra change of clothes in my carry on's, just in case ;) I figure being overly prepared can only guarantee their safe delivery! :rotfl:

I have read through the last 30 pages of so of this thread and didn't readily see an answer to my question, so here goes:

My family is traveling to WDW in a little over two weeks and are all using DME. I am arriving a day ahead of our older DD and we are coming from different parts of the country. Our WDW room reservations have the correct people in the rooms and the right ME info on them, but we have not been able to get the vouchers to be correct.

Bottom line... will our DD be able to get off her flight the day after I arrive and still get on the bus? I have been told that the luggage tags I sent her will still allow her luggage to be retrieved and sent to the room that next day because the bar code is simply our reservation number. My concern is her actually arriving at WDW!

Thanks for the help.

I'm sure that someone else here has done something similar, but if it were me, I would still call DME and ask them. I had to call them last week, and they were very helpful.

I have read of some calling CRO, and being told that it couldn't be done...then calling DME and being told that it wouldn't be a problem. But that could have been in the early DME days.

In case you need the DME number: 866-599-0951

I did call them again today. Once again I was told that everything is in their system and there is no need to worry. So... I am no longer worrying. They sent another batch of luggage tags which arrived today. These do have tags for our older DD with her arrival date correctly displayed. I have to assume that this is an indication that all is right with the reservations. I hope! Thanks for the reply! :goodvibes

We are not using DME but my DBIL will be. He's our guest in our DVC villa. We are doing a split stay, we start at BLT and then switch on 10/3 to BWV. The Departing DME tag, labeled BWV shows that he is leaving on the day we are checking into BWV. We've called once and got another set of DME tags in the mail with the wrong date on it again, it should be 10/7 but still shows 10/3. The tags are for EP. Do we need to worry? Can we just check with the concierge after we check into BWV and have them fix it? Or since MS says they have the correct check out dates on their system and the DME system my BIL will be okay?

In a recent trip our tags never made it. We picked up our bags at the carrousel and went to the ME desk at the airport. They took over from there and everything worked perfectly

So since the tag that is wrong for my DBIL is the return to MCO tag, there won't be any problem? We don't even know if his name is on the list for October 3rd or the correct date of October 7th. MS tells they put in the right information into DME system but we just get the wrong dates on the return tags.

Has anyone ever been refused a seat on a DME bus because your bus left 4 days ago? Obviously I'm still worried.

There are no such things as "return to MCO tags." DME does not send anyone tags that are used on the last day of the person's vacation ... such a thing does not exist. DME tags are used ONLY to route the bags from your airplane to your Disney resort on the day you fly into Orlando from home, the first day of your vacation. There is no such thing as a DME tag to be used to send your bag from your hotel to the airport on your last day.

What you got was a result of a minor and meaningless glitch in the DME computer system, one that's been around since Day One. When you have a split stay, you actually have 2 separate resort reservations (as you know). So when you make a DME reservation, DME sends you a full DME mailing for each reservation. In other words, the BWV tags are tags that you'd theoretically use if you were flying into town for your BWV stay. But they're useless, since you are already in town, you won't be needing tags to direct your bags from your airplane to BWV on that day.

If your brother-in-law happens to be joining you in Florida on the same day you're switching resorts, then he should use a BWV tag, as that's where he'll be staying.

This has probably been answered, but this thread is huge. This is our first time using ME. If we chose to use the luggage tags and have ME pick up our bags....how long does it take ME to get my bags to the room? I read that it can take up to 3 hours. If it will take that long..I think I would rather get the bags myself so I can unpack when I get to the room. Anyone have a long wait for their luggage?

DME info packet will tell you to expect your luggage, in your room, up to four hours after resort checkin.
Depending on when you get to your resort, your room may not even be ready yet..in which case you will have to leave your bags with Bell Services.

We will arrive around noon and I was planning on letting ME deliver my bags. If our room isn't ready at check-in we will head to the parks and probably won't return to the resort until after park closing. That means we won't actually be in our room until later at night. Will ME go ahead and take my bags to the room I am given or will I have to pick them up myself at the bell desk? Thanks!

Your bags will 'magically' appear in your room when you get back to your room. Most of us here do exactly what you are doing.....just heading to a park when we get there. So, we really, for the most part anyway, have no idea when our bags get to our rooms since we are off having a great time in a park.
No tipping is required....now, if you get the bags yourself, and then have them stored by Bell Services, there will be a tip expected when they deliver the bags to your room...and of course, you do have to be in the room to accept the bags (and hand over the expected tip!!).

I've used DME before and generally know how it works, but this time are flight is supposed to land around 7 p.m. We will probably be trying to get to bed no later than 10:30 p.m. to be ready for our first day at the parks the following day. I am not interested in being woken up with a knock on the door an hour or more into us being asleep by someone delivering our bags. Wondering if I should just go ahead and not use the tags and clamin our own checked bag and bring it on the bus with us?

TIA

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid they wouldn't deliver my bags until I was actually in my room. I didn't want to leave the park just to retrieve my bags.

When I first made reservations, we were staying at SSR on my sisters points. We waitlisted for VWL and it came through last week. (Yea:yay:)

I have already received the yellow magic express luggage tags. I asked MS if they will be sending out new tags and they said no. Is that right?? The reservation number changed when the VWL came through. MS told me to change the resort name on the tags.
Anyone have experience with this????

I would call DME directly and see what they say. Technically, the reservation number is what is scanned and used to check the bags into the system. If that reservation number is scanned, it will more than likely come up as invalid..then who knows what will happen to your bags. Sure, we can cross out the resort name and carefully write in the correct one, but that is just a backup type thing.
I always tell people that as long as the reservation number is the same, you'll be fine. But, if your's has indeed changed, then I really think you're better off calling DME to be sure.

Thanks goofy4tink, I called ME directly and they are sending me out new tags. Now to wait the 3 weeks until I leave.........

Hi- I'm obviously a newbie here. I just book 3 nights at Pop Century today 10/14 with Magical Express arriving MCO on Sun Oct 24. Do you think my tags will arrive in time and does anything else come in the mail that I will need? If I don't get them in time what do I do?

thanks Jan:)
