Disney's Hollywood Studios new name

However with that said things do change. They could've very well nixed the whole new name thing.

They could have done. But really, the name doesn't make sense. They've announced the new theme and it has nothing to do with studios. Hollywood Adventure fits but it's not very exciting, they may be hoping they can dream up something better.

I agree, I think a new name doesn't get announced until closer to completion of the work being done.

I sense a lot of confusion and uncertainty here and the reason is, just what is a theme park when it loses its theme? Just an amusement park really. Or at best as people have pointed out, a collection of themed entertainment "franchises" ... which sounds like fast food. Call it a fast vacation.

It's the same reason why arguments over the placement of Frozen in Epcot keep coming back. What's the theme here? Are the Disney parks evolving to be being generic collections of rides?

It might make thing easier from the point of view of FP+ and ADRs but it really messes up the quality of the park prestige and branding.

They wouldn't mess up the prestige and branding of a movie franchise like The Avengers by introducing Star Wars characters or Muppets. A theme park is the same. You have a bit of latitude to mix and match but watch out ... it'll be impossible to go back to a coherent theme once you've gone too far.

Think of the "Disney Parks" souvenir fiasco and you'll see that this mismanagement of the theming has been building for a long time. It won't get better until they realize that each park has to be like a movie franchise or entertainment brand unto itself. Otherwise the decision won't be Epcot or MK tomorrow ... it'll be Disney or Universal.

Actually I think they've been pretty clear about what the new theme is, it's just you can't really see it in the park yet. The theme is "entering the movies".

If you look at what's been removed and what's left then with the exception of Indiana Jones (which has to be on borrowed time) fits this theme perfectly. You will go into a land (Star Wars, Toy Story, Old Hollywood, maybe Muppets if we're lucky) and it will be like you are in those movies. Even the Great Movie Ride embodies it, just on a smaller scale where you enter scenes from multiple movies.

We'll see if they execute, but theme is fine. It's not like any of the parks (with the possible exception of Animal Kingdom) ever had a more cohesive theme than that. Epcot is two totally unrelated things jammed together, and old DHS... well that was just a mess. AK is stronger themewise, but they do have Dinoland so... At a fundamental level even MK or Disneyland are just a collection of unrelated themed areas.

"Welcome to World Showcase, with some real countries and 1 fake one and maybe more fake ones in the future, who knows!"

I agree with this and I love that theme. I really hope that they are able to keep and expand on the theme that you are entering these films and shows.

Yeah, honestly this is pretty unnerving. I go to Disney because I want to feel like I've been transported to another place.

In Magic Kingdom, the lands flowing together is almost seamless, as well as in places like Animal Kingdom, and even Epcot. But Hollywood Studios is gonna be a mess for awhile. It definitely needs more love, but I just wish they would've done a better job with the park from the beginning. It was a rushed project from the start. Now the front area will always be themed like Hollywood (and apparently the area similar to it at DCA is better), and then there will be some random things slapped in. It's just kinda bizarre I guess. The new name should be interesting.

Disney's Hollywood Adventure is my guess. I still have a habit of still calling it MGM, so that's just my problem. :cool1:

I really think the "Studios" will be dropped from the name. As Jim Hill has been rumoring about for awhile now "Disney's Hollywood Adventure" is one option, but I really hope they don't go with it since its kind of a boring name. Why "Hollywood" when your in Florida? Why can't Disney stand on its own, like it does in Paris for example? The Walt Disney Studios perhaps? I like "Disney's Movie Magic" theme park or "Disney/LucasFilm/Muppets/Pixar" theme park... lol

The real fact is the "the Studios" is to me the park at Walt Disney World with the most potential. Think about this, and think of this from a kids point of view...

You're staying at one of the resorts on property (let's say Disney's Carribean Beach Resort for the heck of it...). Just a stone's throw from where you're staying, lives THE MUPPETS; where the heros and villans of Star Wars come to visit, and where you can meet Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the Toy Story gang- plus play in Andy's backyard (where you're scaled down to the size of a toy!). That is a pretty awesome thought, and imagine going on vacation to a place like that? Where you're in the movies and shows that you love.

At its core this place will always be a "movie park" and TWDC knows this, especially when you look at these recent investments all in Disney-owned IP for the new additions to the park. There is a really good breakout of why the park needs these updates and themeing help that Dustin West wrote awhile back- check it out: http://www.wdwinfo.com/4-reasons-why-disneys-hollywood-studios-needs-to-change.htm

I think Disney Studio Adventures has a pretty nice ring to it. It would allow them to keep as much movie themed things, while removing as much "hollywood" stuff as they want.

Actually, if Disney changes the name of the park, Disney is likely to remove "Studios" from name because the facility is no longer a working movie studio and no longer a park about how movie studios make movies.

However, the park still has a lot to do with Hollywood -- not only because the front of the park still represents the Golden Age of Hollywood, but also because Hollywood is a synonym for "the movies."
