We are going to HH for the first time for 3 nights in October. What do we need to know? We have booked a studio, but have not requested a particular view. Do we need to? Also, I have heard we need to reserve bikes. Where do I do this? What about food? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance for the info!:)

I don't know if you can reserve bikes before you get to the resort. And since you're going off-season, you'll probably be OK waiting til you get there. We've stayed in several different studios at HHI, but this was my favorite-

I think it's #1134. However, once I requested a certain room and we got the furthest from our requests ever (yet, ironically, when I started putting in requests, MS told me that at HHI, they often give you the certain room you ask for so she encouraged me to pick a room #). As far as food, they have FF at the resort and at the Beach House, but most of the time you'll be going out to eat. Where I'd recommend depends on what kind of food/casualness you like. Seafood? Mexican? Pastry? But since you're going in October, I feel safe recommending one food-at the resort. In the mid-afternoon, if you go to Big Murgie's Den (off the check-in desk) they'll have warm apple cider and cranberry nut cookies. Grab a couple cookies and a cup of cider, sit on the couch and read the Island Packet newspaper. Enjoy!

You can rent bikes at the resort pool area. We have rented bikes there in July without advanced reservation.

Do you rent bikes by the hour like at WDW or by the day/weekend? Also, has anyone been mid October? How is the weather? Is it too cool to swim or go to the beach?

you can rent bikes daily/weekly...there are plenty and it is soooo very relaxing and laid back...you will love it there. the cms will give you restaurant guides upon check-in. there are plenty of restaurants also within the marina so you may walk there too (look at menus, make ressies, etc.) the water (at least i found was sooo warm pool-heated/ ocean very warm---i did not want to get out--like a warm bath)...have a wonderful time!!!!! :cloud9:

A must for my family is the Beach House. We visited this Summer for the first time. Spent most days between the beach and Beach House. You can drive and park for free or take the shuttle.

I LOVE the marsh view, but most HHI rooms have a nice view. As far as food goes, will you have access to a vehicle for the week? If so, there are great restaurants all over the island. We always buy groceries - Piggly Wiggly is closest, Publix is a few miles down the road near the Sea Pines rotary, and there's a Fresh Market (similar to Whole Foods) nearby as well. You won't have a full kitchen in the studios, but you will have access to the hibachis located around the resort if you would like to grill out. Have fun!

When are you going? We'll be there for 4 nights from 10/10 thru 10/14. Our first time, too! :cool1:

Does anyone know if there is a website that lists the planned activities for the week?

Try to stay away from rooms on the left side of the Lodge. They are mostly "tree" view rooms. You want to be on the right hand side and higher up is better IMO. If you are not in the Lodge, you may or may not get a decent view. It all depends on what is available when you check in. Also be advised, when making a specific request, you may be putting yourself in an HA room. The problem is there are just not that many Studios (or 1BR's) at HHI.

You can call the resort and they'll fax a copy of the current activity schedule. The activities don't change that much from week-to-week and the pricing is also very stable.

Here is the resort phone # (843) 341-4100

Enjoy! :)

Just so everyone knows, they can email the schedule as well. They took my email and will send it out when the new schedule comes out on Saturday.

I understand there are elevators in the Lodge and some studios, is that true?

The Live Oak Lodge (Buildings 11/12) has elevator access. There are 16 Studios and 16 1BRs (all lock-offs) in 11/12 with elevator access and a parking garage. All other buildings do NOT have elevator access. There are another 5 Studios and 5 1BR villas without elevator access.

Yes, and the top floor of the lodge, IMO, has 4 studios and the most beautiful views. I'll check for photos when I get home.

We just got back from our first trip to HHI a few weeks ago and immediately wanted to get right in the car and go back! We stayed in a GV that faced the parking lot side but on the other side of that was the marina so it was fine. The boats were actually quite interesting to look at. We walked the whole thing one evening and got icecream at one shop over there.
The beach house was awesome. It was fabulous to come in from the beach and get refreshed in the pool. The beach water was warm, weather was great and the beach was not crowded at all. We ate at the restaurant in the beach house afternoon and it was good- not spectacular and a bit pricey.
We loved going crabbing on the dock on the back side of the resort - bought two crab pots at the resort and kept us all busy for hours (even got a couple of turtles).
If you decide you'd like some good pizza The Mellow Mushroom a few miles away was yum!
We took a sunset dolphin tour on a two decker boat that left right out of that marina. We got to see some great houses on the water , dolphins, and a beautiful sunset. It was off season prices too so that helped (maybe $14 adults and $7 for kids).
We have decided after that trip that our Septembers need to consist of a trip to HHI. It was great!
Have fun!

This sounds great! Can you tell me what company? Did you reserve this ahead of time? We are heading to HHI in a week and a half and this is right up our alley.
