Disneys Hilton Head Island

Not sure if you left yet, and it looks like most of your questions were answered, but here's my 2 cents!

My wife and I just got back from HH a week ago and the weather was still warm enough to go in the ocean. (Mind you, we're from Boston!)

There are a lot of great restaurants...Our favorites were A Lowcountry Backyard and Skull Creek Boathouse. Patty's Pig N Pit had GREAT wings, but the rest of the BBQ was only OK.

The island is very "green", so you'll notice that there are lots of trees (which is beautiful), but few lights at night. The signs are all in neutral color font on neutral color backgrounds which makes it hard to get around if you don't know where you're going. I'd recommend driving around a bit while it is still light out so you can figure out where stuff is. This isn't a detraction of the island at all (we loved it!), but just something I'd have liked to know in advance to avoid getting a bit lost at night!

Next year, we will be staying in a 2 BR. I'm thinking about requesting Building 18. I know the 1 BR/studio is on the bottom floor. Would the dedicated 2 BRs be on the top floor or are there dedicated 2 BRs on the bottom floor as well?

Building 18 is an awesome location with a great view of the marsh and close to the pool and playground (beiides us we had DBIL,DSIL, DNiece3). We just got back last Friday Night (stayed Sun-Friday) from staying in 1811 which is on the bottom left in front of the butterfly garden and a hammock out back. It was a 2BR dedicated (not lockoff). I would imagine the other end would be the same as well (for symmetry's sake).

Can someone explain all the different views available at HHI? I see "marsh view" mentioned, if I want a studio with a view like that room Simba's Mom posted, how should I describle it? Water view? Ocean view?
Thanks.

There are no ocean views, HHI is not on the ocean. That is a view of the marsh from the upper floors of the main lodge.

Thanks. So I will request marsh view in the main lodge.
Just wondering what other views is there on other sides of the lodge? Pool view? Parking lot view? wood? :confused3
I just want to know more about the resort is all. Thanks.

We took a sunset dolphin tour on a two decker boat that left right out of that marina. We got to see some great houses on the water , dolphins, and a beautiful sunset. It was off season prices too so that helped (maybe $14 adults and $7 for kids).
We have decided after that trip that our Septembers need to consist of a trip to HHI. It was great!
Have fun!

Can you tell me more about this sunset dolphin tour? On our next trip, it looks like I'll be solo for a day or two before DH can fly in (something about a Formula One race he just HAS to see) and this sunset tour sounds like so much fun, since I'm a nature lover. The part about it leaving right out of the marina helps a lot too.

I want to know too, what's the name of that company or contact info?

Here is a photo, the large multi floored building is the lodge. You will not be able to see the pool.

Ok that make sense Sammie. I just found the HHI info threat from 2009. How much has changed since that one posted do you know? I wish someone can update it.

For anyone that hasn't been to HHI before, it helps to look at photos of the layout of the resort to understand how different this resort is - BUT the photos won't help you totally understand how the resort views are different from villa to villa even in the same building due to the villas being built to take advantage of the very unique location.

I would loved to have been standing on the island when a DVC exec said..
"Yeah - I think this will work!"

They packed a lot into a very small amount of real estate.

From the vast majority of the photos that you find online the resort looks like it is actually somewhat remote, secluded, and even isolated.

It isn't any of those things.

The resort is directly adjacent to a Mall, a marina, store-front shopping, and just off of the main artery on the island. Hilton Head Island is packed with resorts, commercial development, and residential developments. BUT don't think for a minute that any of that detracts from the vacation experience.

The resort is fantastic - and is filled with Disney touches, but none that are over the top. If someone was blindfolded and missed the DISNEY signs, they would have to take more than a few glances around to see they are at a Disney resort. However for Disney lovers, there are Disney touches and character references all over the place!

The feel of the resort is that it has been there for years, but the rooms are fresh and clean, BUT it also feels like you are staying at Uncle Walt and Aunt Lillian's lake house. It feels very home like and very casual.

There are bikes everywhere - so if you have your own and don't mind subjecting them to sand and salt, bring them along!

Do some research before you go to find the best restaurants (via reviews and such) and excursions.

We already have a week booked this summer in a Grand Villa with extended family - We can't wait!!! It will be my oldest Nephew's first trip to the ocean - he LOVES water and animals, so I can't wait to see him on a boat looking for marine life!!!

HHI is such a beautiful resort, and I REALLY can't wait to claim a hammock and read a few books - and take a few naps! :cloud9:
