Resort Thread Disney's GRAND FLORIDIAN Resort & Spa + Construction Updates!! **LOBBY REFURB STARTED 4/14**

I can't find good pictures of the deluxe king rooms. Can anyone tell me, are these just larger rooms with an area for sitting similar to the layout of the deluxe rooms at Beach Club and Boardwalk, or are they similar to the deluxe rooms at Wilderness Lodge which have the sitting area and the bedroom totally separated from one another by a wall with a door?
In the main building there are 2 styles. The ones on the 2nd floor above Gaspies look just like the outer building king rooms however they do have a soaker tub vs std. There are also octagon shaped rooms in the main building floors 3-5. They are deluxe king but hard to get. They tend to use these for people with special occasions. I have requested them many times but got one once. These rooms are very spacious but do not have a balcony.

If you need extra space I would call or email DSS and explain why you need extra space or need to be closer to the lounge, They do try to honor requests.

I am going to be staying at the Grand next week with my 6 year old and my older parents. To get to Epcot in the morning would you suggest taking the monorail or driving since we will have a car? I imagine taking 2 different monorails takes some time (do you have to go through security twice as well?). Are the trams running in the parking lot at Epcot yet?

One monorail trip will take you to EPCOT. It is very convenient, no need for a car.

As far as the monorail goes, you do have to get off the initial monorail you got on at The Grand and transfer over to the EPCOT line at the TTC, which could definitely take some extra time. You do not have to go through security twice, though. If you’re in a rush, I’d personally drive. Trams are only available at MK. Have fun!

Access to Epcot from GF is one of my least favorite attributes of GF. I usually like to have a beverage at Epcot so we don’t often drive, although it can be more efficient. Back in the Minnie Van days we’d do one leg (arriving) monorail and Minnie Van home. Can still be done just now with rideshare if inclined.

Don’t get me wrong, all of the monorail transfering isn’t all that bad - and it can definitely be part of the fun of an Epcot journey…it just takes a bit of time.

Last trip the monorail to Epcot was not running so tried something different, we drove our rental and parked in preferred parking. It was pretty easy and I would do it again especially for AK and HS.

I have read GF has just started refurb on the hotel. Is there any idea which building they have started with and any projections on when it will be complete?

They are working on Building 9 - Big Pine Key. It is scheduled to open on June 20.

That's the building they are converting to DVC right? Do they plan on refurbishing all the buildings or just the one?

We were at the GF this week. As they were gutting Big Pine Key, workers carted materials across the walkway back toward Sago- everything from beds to desks, chairs, lamps etc. It wasn’t noisy but there were construction workers present during the day and early evening moving through the area.

The GF staff were all so friendly and welcoming. We have stayed here a few times. The room was showing some wear but overall was a good stay.

Saturday was dd’s 27th Birthday. We were scheduled for a mom n me at CSR this week. I was trying to stick to a budget so that was our best option.

5am Saturday the GF Gv with AP dos punt finally showed up for our dates so we arrived yesterday to gf . Here is our 4th floor Sago room view .

You were able to change your reservation outside the cancelation period to another hotel without penalty?
