Resort Thread Disney's GRAND FLORIDIAN Resort & Spa + Construction Updates!! **LOBBY REFURB STARTED 4/14**

Me too! It will be super relaxing and fun. We're going to bookend it with MK, so no transportation worries. I am reviewing my adult beverage choices as we speak!

It definitely was not the price I was quoted originally, it was the new higher price, however I did receive an AP discount, although even with that it was about $20 more than what I was quoted (quoted $249 in April, today it was about $270 with AP discount).

ETA: I've been checking out the cake chatter thread and I think I'm going to order a cake...
Sounds like a great plan! I've seen some great custom cakes on the Cake Chatter thread! If you're considering the regular non-custom, easy-to-order and much cheaper Celebration Cake, I'll vouch for it. I've had it twice for my birthday. It's a delicious cake. After our initial celebration we popped the remainder in the room fridge and snacked on it several times. It was a perfect size for myself, husband and 2 teen daughters.

Does anyone know about what time they’re letting people walking from GF into MK at the moment?

That looks delicious! Did you pre-order them before your trip or were you able to get the personalization once you were there? I think these just went up in price too, but still seemed very reasonable! Might be easier for the cabana...I wonder if they have any with white chocolate ears - my daughter loves white chocolate!

They do!!! (and they did go up in price) 😕 - here’s the article - there’s a picture of the white chocolate cake as well 😋

A subtle $4 increase. They both look delicious. That's pretty cool that you can mobile order them! I just test-drove the mobile order from Gasparilla Island. At first I couldn't find it because I set my pick up time for morning - maybe they are only available lunch and dinner. And I would have been able to personalize via mobile order - very cool for any spontaneous cabana celebration :goodvibes

My husband ordered the cake the morning of my birthday and requested the personalization. That was December 2019. (I have since heard that they have cakes pre-printed with "Happy Birthday" on one of the ears and no longer do the personalization, but I'm not sure how it's being handled today.) They delivered the cake to our room after lunch (at his request), with tablecloth, plates, napkins and silverware. They also included the candle and a small dish of mickey sprinkles (like cupcake sprinkles). We pulled out the small dining table that sits under the GF in-room desk and had ourselves a little in-room party. As an fyi, I'm a baker and do a good bit of cake decorating myself. I'm very picky about cake. I was very impressed with this cake. I thought it tasted great.

Sorry for the double-post. Just noticed you're ordering the cake for delivery to a pool cabana. This could be another reason to go with the Celebration Cake, which has more of a firm shell exterior (with a deliciously creamy filling in between layers) vs. a custom cake which would cost a fortune and then possibly melt or slouch if it's a hot day outside. Cake icing doesn't hold up all that well in the heat. Buttercream would melt away in minutes. Royal or fondant would hold up better, but would still get "slouchy".

Will be coming in from the North from I-75

My Waze always tries to tell me to get off 429 around Winter Garden and approach GF/WDW “from the north.”

I always ignore it and just continue on and go the Western Way/Buena Vista/World Drive route. Probably adds a few minutes but to me that’s the “real” way to enter WDW. Gotta have that sign pic!

You're in-room party sounds so nice - it's great that they make the extra effort to make it special in the room! Your endorsement is very helpful given your profession! That's a very good point about the buttercream vs the firm shell! The only reason I was thinking in the cabana was so that we had time to enjoy it, then I could bring the rest back to the room, and not spend that extra time after dinner. I must think this through further :scratchin

I went back and looked at the personalization again...it looks like you can only personalize the occasion via the mobile order - Happy Birthday, Happy Anniversary and Congratulations. I don't see anywhere to personalize the name but maybe they will if you order in person? Still convenient to be able to do it via mobile order...

Oh, to qualify my statement, I'm insurance by profession, and a hobby baker, but I do a lot of custom decorated cakes/cookies for parties, showers, etc. I agree with you that it sounds very convenient to be able to order the Celebration Cake via mobile order!! Perhaps in lieu of personalizing the cake with a name (which they might no longer do), just go with the Happy Birthday that you can order, and bring a non-perishable piece of decor with the birthday boy's name on it. You could prop that on or next to the cake. Think a cute card, a cute label, a cute cupcake flag...

Has anyone been able to find out or hear anything about the dining program returning? We loved it and can only hope.

TY

Don't hold your breath. They need to significantly increase capacity at restaurants and open more of them for dining plans to be feasible.

Thanks GADisneyDad14. Google Maps also does what your Waze says. I will follow your advise.

I ordered two last month through the mobile app. They told me they were only able to do the standard options listed. I got happy birthday on both.

Hi all! We checked in a garden view room last night. I called and requested Sago Key upper level and we have a beautiful clean room on the 4th floor in Sago Key. I pre ordered two welcome desserts for my sister in law and my kiddos. It was so neat walking in after a long day of traveling to the music playing and the deserts out on display. Since we’re DVC we never stay on the resort side anymore and this has been wonderful so far!
