Disney's FORT WILDERNESS CABINS & CAMPGROUNDS Thread

It'll be 78° and sunny here today. Not WDW , but I'll take this over the snow many of you are having, any day!!! STAY WARM!!!

I was so happy it made it into the 40's yesterday I drove home with the window down, I even considered opening the top on the Jeep but thought that might be going a bit far. 40's and maybe even 50's the rest of the week so hopefully some of the snow will start melting.

I still have 33 days to go. Ugggg! Don't think it will ever get here. :goodvibes

I know how you feel.

You're one smart lady with plenty of good advice:thumbsup2 Sounds like you know a thing or two about the Fort ;)

Nah, just some great mentoring from you all!
It's just the Fort really fit us. When we made that right hand turn to go into the Fort it felt like a different world. Like I said we've done tent camping and rustic cabins over the years and loved it but not so much feeling it as much as we used to. So this was perfect. I could be in the middle of the woods but didn't have to go outside in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and worry about what animals are out there. We loved the kitchen, we loved the space, we loved how quiet it is.

Mama Steph, glad the Giddy up n Go worked out well for you, that's always a good thing for us camping folks that drove the rv there sure beats cooking the 1st night.

Woohoo!! I think I have him convinced to add that "extra" day!!! I will let you know when I book it so you can change my dates. :cool1:

Cons:
Transportation to the parks et al - We had our own car but did take the boat one day to MK. Since there isn't anywhere to park we took the bus to the settlement, walked down to the boat, waited for the boat etc. Wasn't bad in the am but didn't like it in the pm. Also don't like that you can't take a bus directly from the Fort to MK.

I'm confused, I thought there was a bus to MK. Is the only way to MK the boat?

My mom will have an ECV & I've read some of the boats can't take ECVs.

Leaving in 2 days! Will be there by lunch Friday.

You might want to double check but when I asked I was told that in order to take a bus you had to take a bus from the Fort to Wilderness Lodge and then take a bus from Wilderness Lodge to MK. That's another reason we don't feel we can stay at the Fort next year 'cause we'll have our FIL with us and he will be using the ECV.

Have no fear!! We stayed in a cabin with Mom and she had an ecv. We took to boat over WITH NO PROBLEM whatsoever..if you have any questions just pm me ;)

but not new to WDW. Does anyone have a list (or a link to a list) of 'things that you might not think to pack' that make staying at the campground much more fun...? Like flashlights, your own smores stuff.... we'll be staying in the cabins.

Thanks!

I had read, on another post, to bring night lights. They also said to bring a couple of air fresheners. I like the night light idea. Also, a few people stated that the pans are not non-stick. My suggestion..when you buy your groceries, make sure you bring cooking spray. Hope this helps a little.:thumbsup2

:rotfl: I would say that might be pushing the envelope a bit ;) Thank heavens for warmer weather. It has been in the 70s here....I've definitely got Spring Fever!!!!

 for a FW visit!!!! Lots of fun in store for your family!!!!

Ya know...."a list" is something that probably needs to be added to the beginning of this thread. It would be helpful for everyone. I'll see what I can come up with and get it added.;)

I've been known to push that envelop farther than most. Last fall the top and doors didn't go back on until a few days before Thanksgiving, I was seeing morning temps in the teens, even my Jeep friends were calling me crazy.

Only 28 more days until we leave, I just got the email our Magic Bands are being mailed out today. The snow has finally started to melt, the snowbanks in front of the camper a down to about 12", I can see the trailer hitch again!!

:woohoo: less than a month!!!!! Come on sunshine pixiedust: and melt that snow!!! Weather is crazy again here in Georgia....had some tornadoes around the middle of the state today:sad2: Terrible wind and rain....then the sun comes out. Who knows?!!

:wave2: Welcome! Welcome! Glad you stopped by :goodvibes

Reading with interest for a possibly stay oct 2015:)

:thumbsup2 It's never ever EVER too early to start planning a Disney trip ::yes:: If you're like me, you'll change your mind 100 times before nailing it down. Of course, that's half the fun, right? ;)

Happy Planning!

I have so much to share but have been too exhausted to type it all on my phone. I will try to do a full update when we get home. :).
Halfway through our trip tonight. Sad to think that we will be home in 4 days but excited about 3 more park days.

Question about the rooms, I'm planning a family trip with 3 adults and 3 kids who will be 10, 7, 6 at the time we go. I've read that there should technically be room for everyone in one of the cabins. Is that really doable?

Sure, two adults in the full size bed in the bedroom. One adult in the bunk beds. One child in the other bunk bed. Two kids in the pull down Murphy bed. And still room for someone on the couch. Have a marvelous time!

We currently have 7 in our cabin. 2 adults, my mom and I, and 5 kids ages 15, 14, 12, 10 and 2. We brought an air mattress and are using the couch so everyone has theirs own bed. For you, your parents could share the bed, 2 boys in bunks, you on Murphy bed and niece either with you or on the couch.

Glad to hear your thoughts on how many fit in a cabin as I will have 6 to fit in and was worrying that it would b tight. Other concern for me is having one bathroom. How do you all cope. I'm really excited as our dates r 28-19-2015-4-11-2015 so we can see all the Halloween decs.
Can't wait to book.
