Disney's FORT WILDERNESS CABINS & CAMPGROUNDS Thread

I have so much to share but have been too exhausted to type it all on my phone. I will try to do a full update when we get home. :).
Halfway through our trip tonight. Sad to think that we will be home in 4 days but excited about 3 more park days.

No apologies necessary!!! Enjoy Disney....but know we'll be expecting a full report when you return :rolleyes1 ;) And DON'T think about being home in 4 days!!!! Think "here and now"!! Hope y'all have a fabulous day!!!!! I will ask, though....how are the crowds???

Question about the rooms, I'm planning a family trip with 3 adults and 3 kids who will be 10, 7, 6 at the time we go. I've read that there should technically be room for everyone in one of the cabins. Is that really doable?

Sure, two adults in the full size bed in the bedroom. One adult in the bunk beds. One child in the other bunk bed. Two kids in the pull down Murphy bed. And still room for someone on the couch. Have a marvelous time!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

We currently have 7 in our cabin. 2 adults, my mom and I, and 5 kids ages 15, 14, 12, 10 and 2. We brought an air mattress and are using the couch so everyone has theirs own bed. For you, your parents could share the bed, 2 boys in bunks, you on Murphy bed and niece either with you or on the couch.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Glad to hear your thoughts on how many fit in a cabin as I will have 6 to fit in and was worrying that it would b tight. Other concern for me is having one bathroom. How do you all cope. I'm really excited as our dates r 28-19-2015-4-11-2015 so we can see all the Halloween decs.
Can't wait to book.

Several years ago we did one night with 4 adults and 3 kids....and yes I know :upsidedow...it only sleeps 6. My DH came in late on Friday, and we left the next morning for CR. I will admit, it was tight with one bathroom. In June, we will have 3 adults and 3 kids in the cabin. Bill won't be joining us until Friday night, so once again we'll be doing 1 night with 7 then moving over to the WL on Saturday morning. It's doable...no worries. And the decorations at Halloween are sooooooo awesome!!!! Worth a visit during that time. And if you decide not to stay at FW, you should definitely go over and check out the Halloween festivities.

The one bathroom isn't ideal but workable for us. Splitting showers between night and morning has help.
We also have an extra here tonight so 8 in the cabin. My dad joined us since my mom has been ill and they have a 2yo adopted son.
Crowds have been manageable. Our first day at MK seemed very crowded. That was Wednesday. Yesterday at HS and today at AK have been great. A bit cool and rainy today caused the parks to empty out. At 4:00, wait time for EE was 10 minutes, aka walk-on. We had FP but ended up riding 2 more times. Kali was also walk-on.

We have been doing recommended parks so far but are doing MK tomorrow. We will go for a couple of hours late morning/early afternoon then come back for HDDR at 4:00. Parents are heading home and the kids and I will be going back for EMH til 1am.

Thank you to everyone! My Stepfather is a self-described "Country Boy" and having the Cabins to come back to will help him relax after a busy day at the parks.

Hi
Does anyone have a February activity sheet they give out when you check in?

Thanks

I had read, on another post, to bring night lights. They also said to bring a couple of air fresheners. I like the night light idea. Also, a few people stated that the pans are not non-stick. My suggestion..when you buy your groceries, make sure you bring cooking spray. Hope this helps a little.:thumbsup2

Awesome ! Thanks!

:rotfl: I would say that might be pushing the envelope a bit ;) Thank heavens for warmer weather. It has been in the 70s here....I've definitely got Spring Fever!!!!

:goodvibes:thumbsup2 well put, my friend!

I'll give 3 :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 for that!!!! Not a big fan of cooking while on vacation

:banana::banana::banana: What's an extra day, right??!! ;)

It's Friday!!!! You're almost there!!!!! :woohoo:party::jumping1:

Hope y'all have a fabulous trip with lots of pixiedust: and Magic!!!

 for a FW visit!!!! Lots of fun in store for your family!!!!

Ya know...."a list" is something that probably needs to be added to the beginning of this thread. It would be helpful for everyone. I'll see what I can come up with and get it added.;)

Great ideas!!! Especially the night light....gets dark in the woods;)

Thanks for the information:thumbsup2

An official list sounds great!

Hope the HDDR is going well...y'all should be there now, right;)? It's one of our favorites! Hope you enjoy EMH at MK. Sounds like a great day!!!!

Well, the "country boy" should be right at home in the cabins:thumbsup2 It is a great place to relax and basically do nothing! Happy Planning!!

On post #9 there is an activity brochure link...it's kind of small, though :upsidedow...I probably need to go back and make it larger ::yes:: Here's the link for you...

February Activity Sheet

An official list sounds great!

I might need to get started on that, huh :rolleyes1 ;)

Hi everyone! I am planning my family's first trip to the Fort in early November. We are staying in a preferred site. I have two children who will be 4 and 2 1/2 at the time, so we will have a double stroller. I am trying to decide the best way to get around the "World". We will be visiting all of the parks. I know that we can walk to the marina from the preferred sites to get the boat to MK. How about the other parks? is the bus stop near the marina the stop that has the buses that go to the other parks? Or do we need to get to the "other" main bus stop to get on the other park buses? I am trying to avoid "double bus-sing" with the doule stroller and kiddos and trying to determine if a golf cart or rental car is the way to go. any advice and info would be appreciated!! thank you :)

You will need to take an internal (FW) bus to the campground entrance area (check-in) to catch another bus to the preferred park. It's a little walk from the marina to the internal bus stop that is near Trails End and HDDM area. If you rent a golf cart, you can park it neat the marina and then drive it to the front to catch the resort bus. Golf cart parking there as well.

We were at the Fort last week of Jan. for our first visit as well. Loved it and would highly recommend renting a golf cart.... Besides, it's. FUN!!

25 days to go

Magic Bands showed up today

Wendy also picked up some Disney bowls for the camper

Tonight is our Last night at the Fort. We get on DME at 8am. Been a bit of a different trip this time with quite a few struggles. So happy to be here but definitely looking forward to next time.
I have a huge list of pros and cons that I will post as soon as I have time.

Looking forward to hearing about it. The good and the bad. Nice thing is you have a next time to look forward to (so do we, which makes it easier). Save travels.

 Glad you joined us...and it was your first post on the Boards!!! :welcome:

And there's no need to double bus...you will be fine. Disney is usually very accommodating. Neeleyd's info is perfect! While we really like having a golf cart, others say it's not a necessity. I think it's all subjective. Guess you can weigh your options and see if the extra cost is worth the convenience or not.

Sorry to hear that  At least you know there will be a next time...that is always the silver lining ;) Can't wait to hear all about....the good, the bad, and the ugly ::yes:: Hope y'all have a good nights sleep and safe travels tomorrow!!

And hi to you and your family! Hope all is well!

Thanks neeleyd and hstrickland! especially for the welcome :thumbsup2

Yes, first post! I am a major planner, but the existing threads have been SO helpful, I have not yet needed to actually post. all of my questions seem to be answered already! so, I have just been lurking pirate:

I do agree the golf carts would be fun - and I am sure the kids would really love them! - but I am also trying to figure out how I am going to load the two kiddos, our stuff, and the double stroller on the cart..... I guess we will only have to do it for three or four days, so I should probably just suck it up. the other option would be renting a car, which I know we can't drive around the campground, but we would use it to get to and from the other parks directly from our site.

walking would actually be my preference, if it is not too far. about how long is that walk from the preferred sites to the main entrance to the campground? everything I was reading was telling me it was quite a walk and you would either need a golf cart or need to use the internal bus. any info on this would be very helpful. thank you!!!

We are going in September. We are going to rent a car to visit family in Tampa (I am trying to convince them to come visit us and not lose a park day :)) and to drive to parks if needed. We will also be renting a golf cart, for transportation and fun. I would rather be in charge of my transportation than rely on buses if I don't have to (I have control issues, I know, ask my wife ;))
