We just returned last night from our first stay at Coronado Springs. We were there 10 nights. We had a fabulous trip, and thought that the resort truly was beautiful. We didn't feel like it was any bigger than Caribbean Beach or Port Orleans, and didn't have any issues with the buses. I wanted to share a few things though that I wish I would have known before I left (this information may have been mentioned in a previous post, but I just never saw it):
There are no toasters or toaster ovens in the food court. This is not a big deal of course, but all of other values and moderates have them, so I took for granted that they would be there. We took our usual bagels to toast for breakfast, and couldn't use them. There is apparently one microwave though if that helps anyone just outside the door of Cafe Rix.
The rooms have real coffee mugs and glasses in them. I realize most people probably love that, but I cannot bring myself to use glasses that someone else drank out of without a straw (too many incidents of seeing leftover lipstick on "clean" glasses I guess). So, we went out and bought disposable coffee cups to use in the room and that worked well for us.
The rooms have a sensor in them that causes the air conditioner to shut off during the night, or during the day when no one is in the room. We called the "front desk" and they sent someone to override the system so that it would stay at a set temperature. She was super sweet and showed my hubby how to do it again if it happened to stop in a few days. We never had a problem again and the temperature was always comfortable for us.
Having stayed at all of the moderate resorts now, I would probably rank Coronado at the bottom of my favorites in the moderate category, but I would definitely still stay here again. There wasn't anything bad about our stay, it is just a preference. We were in Cabanas 8B and we liked the room location. I had requested 8A, but they assigned me to Ranchos 7B prior to check in. I did not do online check in because I wanted to see if that helped get my room request I had placed on my reservation (I also did touring plans fax request for a room in 8A). When we got the room assignment at check in, she mentioned my room request for 8A and said that they put me in a room in Ranchos to still be near the main pool. I asked politely if they had any rooms in Cabanas as I liked the overall theme of them better. She went to the back to ask, and they were able to move me to 8B. The walk to the main building wasn't too bad, but we didn't go that often. We used the Cabanas bus stop each day and never waited more than 8-10 minutes. We hardly used our refillable mugs though because we didn't feel like walking to El Centro at night after the long day in the park, and the pool bar closed at 9:00 so the refills there weren't an option for us. I really wish all moderates would add refill stations a few places around the resort
We were in room 8624. It was a nice room on the parking lot side of the building. It was corner room and very close to the bus stop. The mousekeeper was good. The room was always clean when we returned at night. There weren't any magical touches, but she did she did a good job and I can't complain. The room was fine, but I could see signs of it being ready for an upgrade. Nothing big stood out. Some of the furniture was scratched pretty good. The wooden doors didn't completely shut together to the closet/sink area. The shower curtain didn't keep all of the water in during a shower so the bathroom floor was really wet after a shower. These aren't deal breakers, but little annoyances. I'm sure that once the refurb is ever completed, these rooms will be awesome.
I have to say again.....we thought the resort was beautiful and we had a great stay. The dig site is awesome and had so many fun options to keep the whole family entertained. We would definitely stay here again. We would probably just choose either Caribbean Beach or Port Orleans first because we liked them just a little bit more. After the room refurbs, we will probably give this one another shot though!
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread as I really did get a lot of helpful information from it while I planned my trip!
