What we didn't like about the remodel is that it feels like a "spa" type hotel..we have stayed there since 1971 and every remodel felt modern but with a fun twist...this black/brown/tan room is depressing...if I wanted a spa room I would book into a spa.
As far as valet, no they have never had a per night charge for any Disney owned hotel valet...you just tipped the valet every time someone takes your car or brings your car up for you...this is now $7.00 per night that Disney keeps. The valets have had problems ever since disney did this because people stopped tipping them, assuming that they are splitting the $7.00. Now they are talking about doing what the Swan has already done and charge for the "free parking areas" that they currently have..so every car that pulls in is paying.
The swan is $14.00 pre night if you valet and when you move to self park you find oput when you check out that you were charged $7. to park it yourself.

I have paid for valet parking since 2002 (the first time we used valet parking at a deluxe). To my knowledge it always cost money to use that service...however, the price used to be $6 (I think) and it's now $10 (I think). And although I am not sure of the prices, I am sure that I was charged every time I used the valet service at Disney since 2002. If valet parking was free before that, I would have no idea. But I am sure it was a paid service ever since then and I am actually impressed with the price point. I pay more to valet park when we stay at other resorts in our traveling.

I have never stayed at or even visited the Swan so I cannot comment on that. The Swan is not even an official WDW hotel...so I cannot even go by what is "Disney" policy.

I would be upset if they required me to pay a parking fee on top of my resort fee. However, this is the first I have ever heard of that. Not saying it couldn't happen...but I will worry about it when I have to cross that bridge.

I am sorry that you didn't like the new rooms. I imagine you are not alone...however, I respectfully disagree. I think the new rooms are soothing...not in the least depressing.

I hope you find something else that suits you better.

Jay, what is the monkey looking thing shaking it's booty? Where did it come from?
It was in an email a friend sent me. It was funny...so I snagged it. I just like him. He's my countdown monkey. ;) He is doing the happy dance for me.

Have you started making any plans for your CR stay yet?

No, we have stayed there since 1971 and never paid Disney to use it's parking when we are also paying them to stay there until the last few years which is what I meant...until they started nickle & diming everything.
Just like you always got Mickeys Stickeys free since they invented them...then about 9 years ago they started charging $4.95 I believe.
The way they let the valet staff know that they were outsourcing the job was also rude, they did it in December a couple weeks before Christmas, just told everyone as of Jan 7 you will no longer work here.
Now they are also going to outsource the Bell services which makes me a little nervous as all of the bellmen have a master key to all the rooms! For some reason I have never been concerned about that while Disney was in charge of hiring and firing.
As far as other hotels, we like the WL, Riverside and GF because it looks like you are in Disney, tons of atmosphere. We even bought a Winnebago just to camp a few times a year at FW..thats fun in the cool months.
Don't get me wrong, we obviously love disney, our entire house is Disney collectibles and we attend every special event there. We just hate to see the declining by degrees in recent years.

We also loved the rooms. It was great having a little extra room and the computer with internet access was perfect for us web addicts. Heaven forbid we go on vacation and not check email :rotfl:

Am I reading this right... every room has a computer now? Or only certain rooms have computers? I'd be very excited if my garden wing room comes w/ a computer and internet access.

And congrats!!!

Are they going to build DVC at CR or aren't they? I'd like to see Disney leave it as it is, the way that Walt intended, but I do understand progress as well. I was just wondering what was going on?

I am sooo glad to see I am not the only one who feels this way!:) I have been on another thread and they all want to see it go and the new addition added. I don't have a problem with part of it being DVC I just think it would make the outside looked unbalanced. Also, like you, I think they need to leave it, Poly, and FW alone since these were the dreams of Walt. Just my opionion.

I agree 100%. Add DVC to any resort you want other than the original idea that Walt had. Those are the resorts that he envisioned for the future, I don't think DVC at every resort was what he had in mind.

Yep, we feel the same way, wish they would leave Walts originals intact.
As far as the Computors in the rooms, what I know from our experience is that IF there is a Computor already in your room you can use it free (temporarily) if you bring your own laptop and connect they will charge you 9.95 pre 24 hours I believe it was...So our friends at the hotel told us to make sure anytime we check in about the cost because they will eventually be charging to use it.

I'm not at all certain, but I believe all rooms at the resort do have the machines for an ongoing in-room pilot of an online "virtual concierge." Don't quote me on that, because I could be wrong. If in the room, it'll be a slim-line type Windows PC with internet access will be sitting on the end of the desk. If not, you can still use your own computer and pay for Disney's HSIA at 9.95 per 24 hours, added to your guest folio.

I can say with a virtual certainty that these machines are in all concierge (Atrium Club) rooms.

Thanks for the info!!:thumbsup2

I would assume that the in room computers probably have some sort of block on them so that you can only visit certain sites. Is that the case? Not looking to visit anything unseemly, just check email or maybe post a hello on a Mom's board I visit! Just wondering if anyone knows if that will be possible or are the set to only visit disney.com sites or something?

On our Christmas trip, I was able to check my Yahoo email account and check out the DIS as well as TGM. I think you'll be fine.

We are on our way home from a trip to CR and FWilderness. We have stayed at CR several times. This is the first time DH had a business meeting there. We got a conference rate so the price was great. We requested a tower room w/ MK view but didn't get our hopes up since we were receiving a reduced rate and were placing requests thru a business travel agent. We were pleasantly surprised to receive our requests. We also called ahead around 1 am to say we were an hour away and could we get in and pay for the extra night. They were booked but we were surprised to get permission to park our RV in the parking lot and spend the rest of the evening there. The kids were so surprised to wake up with the monorails overhead and there favorite place right out their window.:cool1:

As we typically find at CR, the staff was accomodating but not overly helpful or warm. I was excited to see the "new" rooms. At first glance they were a definite improvement. The beds were comfortable, the matresses appear to be new, one still had a tag on it. After living in the room for a day I had a few issues that became evident:

1- I miss the table by the day bed. Although there is a table on wheels by the desk that we eventaually moved to the daybed area, it was quite small and taller than a coffee table would be. We orderd room service ( a whole other story) and there was practically no place to eat.
2-The bathroom was the biggest disappointment. The bathtub and tile floor are the same as before. The shower had poor pressure. My shower at the Fort Wilderness comfort station was better. The sinks in the bathroom are interesting and contemporary but they take up a lot of space. There is hardly any counter space. The toilet area is the same but they removed the extra sink and counter that was in there. I really missed that. It is now just empty wasted space (there is a sliding door now so there is no room for the counter).
3- as noted on here previously, there is very little drawer space. There are 2 tiny drawers in the closet and two drawers between the bed and desk, which I didn't even notice until the next day.
4- Overall I felt the room could have been cleaner. When doing our room search at checkout (behind curtains, under bed, etc) we found the edges to be dirty. The glass sliding doors, wood, and chrome in the bathroom had splatter marks and smudges on them that never disappeared for the 4 nights we were there.
5- The tub was severely clogged and I mentioned that to my maid. It was fixed the next time we used it.
6- It appeared the daybed was the same one as before with a new fabric on it (?)
7- One of the best things for me about CR is the view and watching Wishes from my balcony with the narration/music broadcast over the TV. If the kids are asleep I can't go to the viewing area. I called and asked about which channel and was told that you can't do that. When I toild the CM I had done it in years past they told me they knew nothing about it. I asked about it at the front desk the next day and was told they are trying to fix it.

On the plus side there is a flat screen computer for your use. I didn't use it the first 2 days because I didn't really need it and there was a sign that said there was a daily 9.95 charge. My husband told me that one of the men from his meeting said it was free because they were trying out their online concierge. I would not have known this if someone hadn't told my husband. It had icons for bell service, reservations, etc but I never used those. I just used the internet access. It came in handy when I wanted info from the DIS about the pirate/princess party.

Overall, the rooms were an improvement but I was a little disappointed. I felt the quality and design could have been better. There were no Disney effects either, I would have loved some contempoary disney art or monorail designs, something...

Of course you just can't beat that view and the proximity to the MK...

4DisneyAddicts--Hope your stay was overall enjoyable. :wizard: As noted previosly by many of us....the drawer space and bathroom design leaves something to be desired. I really don't understand why they don't add a small dresser or a shelving unit in the toilet room with all that wasted space in there.

What happened with room service? Did you get to go swimming or was it too cold? What type of construction is going on in the concourse right now? Anything new with the NGW refurb/destruction?

I've seen this question asked several times on this thread but not answered (I don't think!). Does anyone know when they are going to be moving around the restaraunts? I don't want to pay extra for a deluxe and not have the restaruants! Also, (Please forgive me for being shallow) does the north wing construction/destruction take away a lot from the atmosphere of the resort?

I ordered dinner one evening (simple pasta and kids PBJ) I specifically asked if bread was included and was told absolutely. Dinner came and I didn't check the order because I was looking for a place for the kids to eat (hence the problem with no table). I got the kids settled and sat down to eat. No bread, no butter,no glass or ice for my soda, just a can. I called and it was sent up but by then the dinner was cold. Not a big deal but an inconvenience. When you pay room service prices I expect a complete, hot meal. If a mistake or ommission is made I am understanding but appreciate an effort to make ammends by taking something off the bill, or bring me a complimentary dessert. You can win me over easy with a slice of cheesecake!!

We did go swimmimg. We had one or two warmer days. DS 5 was stung by a bee and the female lifegaurd was very sweet and helpful. I was impressed by the # of lifeguards.

The only work on the concourse was on the gift shop (the one on the side by the escalators). The little store on the end was open for batteries, snacks, etc. The large shop was boarded up and had a sign about being under construction.

The only thing I noticed with the constuction on the North wing was what I believe has already been mentioned on the boards. The tennis courts were gone, the area there was cleared, it appeared the building was being cleaned out. I think I saw dumpsters. I didn't really look that closely, too busy admiring the Magic Kingdom or watching my kids enjoying the monorail.

Are the main gift shops both closed? Any idea how long they will be closed if yes?

The shop on bay lake side was open (used to becalled Contemporary Man/Contemporary Woman) the store on the MK side was closed.
The kiosks in the concourse are also still open.

I wanted to say something and room service also..My two cents is save your money and go somewhere else. We ordered breakfast and is was just ok at best. The brought the meal at the last possible minute of our window. Ok still in the window but it was lukewarm. Also they charged us for the fruit on top that I requested on all our meals but there was no fruit. I had to call. They did reverse the charges but still.
Overall I would have enjoyed the food court much better. Just my experience, the restaurants at the CR are a whole another story...simply perfect. :goodvibes
