Hi all, we just made last minute reservations for the Contemporary starting on Feb 10. I hear rumors of restaurants and the Food & Fun center moving.Is everything currently open? It's nice being able to get a quick & cheap bite to eat for breakfast (especially with a 2 year old) at the F&F center. Just wanting to see if anyone who had a recent stay can advise. Thx!!!

The unfortunate thing about these rumors (which I personally believe will come to fruition eventually) is that they do not specify a time frame. However, all restaurants are currently open at the resort, and all will likely be open during your stay in February.

I would like to know this as well since we are headed there specifically for my sons birthday and one of the main places he wants to visit is the Fun Center. Anyone?

Oh man! That would explain why there are NO garden rooms available except what we set aside in our wedding block. I hope this mess is out of there by July. All of our guests are staying at the Contemporary and I don't want it to be a construction zone!

We were just there January 12-16 and none of the North Wing was torn down (at least not that we saw,) so this must have JUST started when you took those pictures.

Does anyone have any idea when the Food & Fun Center/Concourse Steakhouse transfer is supposed to take place?

Also, it doesn't look like the OP has been updated in a looooong time. Do the new rooms have safes and refridgerators? Is there a thread anywhere with lots of pics of the new rooms other than the ones on allearsnet? Also, does the boat at the marina towards the back of the resort take you to the MK, Wilderness Lodge, Poly, GF, etc...?

Yes, all of the new rooms have a small safe and fridge. At least, ours did in 2005. As for the boat, I am pretty sure it only takes you to the Wilderness Lodge. The Magic Kingdom is a short 10-15 minute walk from the CR, which is really nice.

Thank you! That's good to know that the boat takes you to the WL since we thought about making ADRs at WCC. Also, we won't be able to take the top layer of our wedding cake home, but it will be nice to keep it in our fridge in our room and nibble at it during our honeymoon


Also, is the safe a traditional size like the ones in other resorts? I read that they could fit a laptop, however, when we stayed at POFQ 3 weeks ago there was NO WAY my laptop was going to fit in it (and it's not that big of a laptop.) Then I was stuck either locking it in my suitcase or putting it in the trunk of my car. Since it belongs to my school district I was really nervous! If the safes are the same size, I don't think I'll bring it again.

I can't answer your question about the laptop fitting in the safe at CR, but when I stayed at WL in Dec. the safe was too small for a latop, but I did leave mine out on the desk in our room, and it was safe, no one touched it. It should be safe in your room at CR.

Thanks! I always get nervous because we had money stolen out of a dresser drawer at POFQ once. It was never recovered and nothing was ever done about it. Just makes me wary! Especially when the laptop belongs to my school

When we stayed at the GF in Dec 2005, our Laptop fit in there, barely...but, it did fit. Ours is not small. I guess it depends on which safe is in your room.

CR is the test site for the virtual concierge so I understand there are computers available in each room and during the test, at least, they aren't charging for using them even for email and web. Not sure why anyone would need a laptop at WDW unless going for a conference - no time to web surf and visit the DIS anyway

I like to come back from the parks at night and work on my trip report while things are fresh in my head

Any idea when the virtual concierge test will be going on? Will it only be available in concierge rooms?

Don't know how long they will be doing the free comp. but the concierge test is going to be permanaet if people actually use it. Our last trip last month my husband ordered extra pillows from housekeeping using the comp. to see if it actually worked...sure enough about an hour later here came the housekeeping girl with the pillows. Also you can use it to tour the hotel etc.
I used it to check my aol email and it was slower than my dsl at home, but hey, it was free!
In the past I have always brought my laptop to Disney and never had a problem..I usually put mine back in the case when I leave the room, but there have been a few times when I left it out on the desk at the CR and never had anyone snoop. I would guess the safe is about 12" wide so my laptop would not fit inside. good luck.
