I haven't been keeping up with this thread recently, so forgive me if this has been stated. We will be staying at CR very soon and I'm just curious about renovations. What is under construction right now? More importantly, how has the shopping been affected? I remember CR had a very nice, large store.

Thanks!

We just returned from a stay at the CR. The shops have been unchanged (except that the pin kiosk on the Concourse between the shops has been moved back toward the north end). I understand that eventually the shops are supposed to be changed but not until next year. The only construction we saw when we were last there on Oct. 14 was at the north wing.

I felt that I needed to post an update on a comment I made many posts back. I had been having a hard time with the IPO office, as far as hearing from them. I decided to try one more time and I sent a list of ADR's. I am happy to say that they got back to me within one hour. Complete with my itinerary. I did ask them to send the itinerary, I did not expect it so fast. Hopefully they got whatever problems they may have been having solved. I am really looking forward to my trip. The views looks so wonderful, I have no idea what view I will get but both look great. :)

Hello! First time posting here, so greetings to everyone on this board!

I am writing seeking help! I am booked to stay in the CR 14th floor concierge in a single room (i.e. one of the two non-suites up there). One of the reasons that I wanted to stay there was because the rehabbed rooms that I've seen look gorgeously decorated and I figured I'd go all out. But... I just looked at some Disney sites that I haven't looked at in a while, and they are showing new pictures of the 14th floor rooms and I am NOT HAPPY. They look like they have been only slightly renovated- from what I can see the bathrooms aren't the new double square sink, and the room is generally the same except for the bedding. What is up with that? I hope the "new" pictures are wrong, because if I am spending a huge amount on a week's vacation in 14th floor concierge I expect the rooms to be completely done over, and match the look and feel of the tower rooms.

Should I ask to stay on the 12th floor? Help! I am so confused! :tinker:

(Sorry if this has already been asked!)

You will be better off staying on the 12th floor. The rooms on the 14th floor didn't have as as extensive a rehab as the 12th. The 12th floor is also full concierge now instead of being " concierge light ", as it was before the rehab. The new lounge is beautiful on the 12th floor. Mk rooms are still only a " request " , but if you end up with a bay lake view you can still enjoy watching Wishes from the lounge :).

Thanks Kteacher for the quick reply! I am so confused as to why Disney wouldn't rehab the 14th floor like the other floors. Oh well. I hope I can switch my reservation.

Thanks!

I have to totally agree with Kteacher. Do the 12th floor. We have been CR junkies for the past 15 yrs (we go to WDW several times a year) and almost always concierge at the CR. Our last stay was Nov 04 because we were so unhappy with the shabbiness of our room - a one bedroom suite on the 14th floor - every WDW vacation since that stay has been at the other deluxes. I felt totally ripped off paying what we paid for this rundown room. When I heard 14th floor was getting a light makeover, I was shocked. Our 14th floor suite had carpet stains, threadbare upholstery, water rings on the "wood" furniture, the OLDEST microwave I have ever seen, ripped & stained wallpaper, a nasty drip behind the toilet and lots of mold all over the grout in the bathroom. Needed a LOT more than a light fixer upper. My kids really want to stay at the CR again, as they basically grew up going there, lol, but I am not ready. Not until total rehab.

Another thing that should be mentioned is that standard rooms on the Atrium Club, are less expensive then standard rooms on the Tower Club. Plus the Atrium Club now serves the excat same foods the Tower Club does, which they never did until this past January. So you can pay a little less for a newely renovated room on the 12th floor or pay a little more for a standard room on the 14th floor, which was barley renovated by some people's accounts & get the same amenities that guests get on the 12th floor.

I'm wondering if you all can help with my decision. We're planning a Nov '07 DW trip and I know we'll be staying at OKW from Sun thru Fri of Thanksgiving week as my sister has offered her DVC club points for the trip. I feel like we need to go earlier-either Thur or Fri prior as we don't get down there very often (last trip-01/03-POFQ). My question is, if prior to staying at the Contemporary the first time, did you have to convince yourself it was worth the money? It's approx $600.00 less to stay at POFQ for 2 nights and the thrifty side of me says "save the money". The "I stayed at the Poly in 3rd grade and have always wanted to stay on the monorail again" side seems to be winning out. Help please-I seem to have this internal struggle going on and any comments would be appreciated!! Thanks!!! :confused3

We recently turned from Contemporary.
Wowwwwwwwwwwwwww! We loved our MK view, it was amazing. Beds were SO comfy too! and SO large. The feather pillow was losing its feathers though so I woke up to a few feathers every morning, and the TV was amazing. Heres some photos:

The first one is our room (can you see the two people on the balcony? I'm the blue speck!) and the rest are room views, from the room on the 6th floor.

Hello! I have a question, please. Just booked the CR MK view for late February. :woohoo:

Just wondering if anyone has any updates on the 4th floor renovations/moving of the restaurants that is supposed to take place in 2007? Anyone know when it's scheduled to start?

TIA :thumbsup2

Hi we just returned from wdw. Stayed at Poly but visited CR several times. (love their resturants). No signs what so ever of construction as far as resturants go. :confused3 And we asked at steakhouse, but no info given. But did anyone else notice that the steakhouse is not listed in the official guide / resturant book? (by Birnbaums). :guilty: That doesn't look to good? We love the steakhouse.

As far as other construction, the north tower looked totally closed and fenced off. They even where digging up the parking lot located in front of the north tower. Also hauling out all furniture noted. Lots of work going on. Many workers too. We did notice they are still watering the grass behind & to the side of the north tower? Might be preset sprinklers but they are still going off there?

We are considering returning to CR next summer, but wondering about the "new" bathrooms. Can anyone address there opionion of the sinks, counter space, or door's. I have read about people with issues of these, but interested if these are universal complaints? We are long time loyal CR lovers too but had a similar room in 04 as Lives4Disney. We just had a tower room, MK view, 10th floor. And the state of the room was unbelievable. Enough that we had not stayed there since.

Thanks for your help, mky princess:

Thanks, Mky! I guess my main concern is the 4th floor concourse area, because, like you, the restaurants are the thing! :thumbsup2

Anyone else have any insight as to when this might start happening?

Hi CR experts! I'm hoping you can answer a few quesitons for me. We are looking to stay at CR in early 07.
Is the Atrium Club both the MK and Bay side? Is there any way to book this and get a MK view? ...and ask for or guarantee an MK view?
Also, what floors/sides of the CR Tower have been redone? How much (if any) of the South Wing has been renovated? Is the North Wing totally closed?
Thank you for your help!

The Atrium Club is on both the MK & Bay Lake side, however the MK view is not a guarantee view as it has to be a request.

Every room in the Tower & South Garden Wing has been 100% renovated & as of right now the North Garden Wing is closed & no one knows what will happen to it in the future.

We will be trying the Contemporary September of 07. I just booked today - had my choice of Poly or CR, CR offered the tower MK view. Sounded nice and something different. Is it? Second guessing myself now!

We just got back from a week in WDW for Halloween. We LOVED the Contemporary!!! I didn't book the Atrium Club this time, but might consider it next time. There was more than enough room for the 5 of us. My 14 year old son slept on the daybed and was very comfortable. The two big beds were sooooo comfortable - people here on the boards were not exaggerating about that. My DH wants to get a new bed now since he slept so good at the Contemporary! We were on the 9th floor and had a Magic Kingdom view. (room 4546 - three rooms down from the end by MK) It was a perfect location!!! I wouldn't want to be down at the very end room because people gather on the outside staircase to watch the fireworks. We were just far enough away to not hear them. We watched the fireworks from our balcony 3 times, one of which had the perimeter fireworks. It was awesome! (BTW- the party perimeter fireworks are only shot off in a 180 degree circle around the MK - they didn't do the usual 360 degree fireworks for MNSSHP) We took advantage of the boat transportation on Bay Lake between the Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge, & Fort Wilderness for the Haunted Hayride. On one of our boat trips, it was time for the fireworks, and the captain drove our ferry to a prime viewing spot to watch the show. I felt like we got a Wishes cruise for FREE! We ate at the Concourse Steakhouse for dinner, and decided that we won't be going back. We also ate at California Grill and had a wonderful meal! I ordered a custom cake two weeks ago and told them to just decorate it for Halloween. It was so cute! They did a great job on it and my daughter was thrilled! We also got a comp bottle of champagne. We WILL be going back to California Grill! We hope the rumours are true about a future DVC at the Contemporary, because we will be buying more points there!

Thanks mlill for a great review. We have about 138 days and counting until we leave. We can't wait! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Great review & it sounded like your family had a wonderfull stay at the Contemporary. After reading your comments, I can't wait until next month when my family & I are back at the Contemporary.
