WE LOVED LOVED LOVED  the Contemporary!!!!

We were there 9/12-9/19...and a very special surprise upgrade from Wing room to Tower facing the castle!!! :) We had a GREAT room 4241 (6th floor)...and I actually loved the busy colors/design...I thought it would drive me crazy...I'm sure the new rooms are glorious but I truly loved the energy this room seemed to give off. The only goofy thing was an orange curved line of carpet mixed in with the black...I kept thinking it was an electrical cord on the floor and kept trying to avoid stepping on it...and I kept reminding myself it was just carpet but I promise it took me 3 days to stop stumbling over myself! :)

Pixie dust was with us the whole trip...sweet sweet Contemporary Resort CM's and it just made for a beautiful celebration trip...and on my birthday I got a Cinderella signed card and balloons..my kids can't get over how Cindy is sooo sweet to send me a card! :) I'll do a full trip report when I catch my breath!

I think I can honestly say I like Contemporary over Poly, AK and OKW...and I never thought I would! :) Even if we hadn't been Tower upgraded I'm sure the love would be the same.

I'm so happy to read your post. We're staying there in 18 days :flower: and I can't wait, the kids are excited, but DH had hoped to stay at the Poly or GF (it is a wish trip for DD10, she wanted to see the castle and we thought it would be good to be on the monorail line with her wheelchair, so requested "monorail with view of castle" and left it up to the wish granters). I keep tellilng DH that it will be great--and DD10 would probably not like GF as much prob. not even the Poly as much. I think she'll be thrilled with the Monorail etc and the view.
Thanks again for letting us know how much you liked it!

That's great! Just curious - had you requested a particular wing? Like the south which is closed right now?

Oh yes, I've heard other people comment on thinking the orange line was an extention cord LOL :rotfl2:

Thank goodness, I'm not alone with the orange line thingie! :rotfl2: I had not requested a particular room, just asked that it be non-smoking due to my children having asthma problems. And my room definitely was smoke free...we had no problems whatsoever with their breathing on this trip. Whew!

And can you believe we had no rain for 8 days? Really a great week for travel down there!

It just means bumpinnt it up to the first page, or giving someone else a chance to respond

We had our first stay on the 14th floor earlier this month. Even though the rooms have not been redone yet we had a nice room. We were in a MK king room right next to the concierge lounge. The balcony was huge! I wasn't very impressed with the bathroom setup but the shower stall was great.

The concierge staff was fantastic, very helpful and always asking if we needed anything.

We will certainly stay there again once the rehab is complete.

Not sure if this was a benefit or oversight but we valeted the car just about every day and we were not charged at all. We did tip each time.

Does anyone know how the family of the day is picked? Do you know what they get exactly? When I was there last week I saw cast members coming from the room behind the concierge with balloons. They all gathered around a couple just checking in. I figured that must have been the "Family of the Day" for that day.

What is the proper amount to tip the valet?

Has anyone stayed there since it has been moved to the 10th floor? We are scheduled for 10-29 through 11-6. Our first family trip and first stay at the Contemporary. :cool1:   :cool1:

Thanks

I just booked the CR in a standard room for January & have requested a smoking room with a king bed.......

I know that the requests are not guaranteed, but do any of you Contemporary experts have any idea if any standard rooms are smoking optional & have king beds?

Also, I understood that the smoking rooms were in the south wing. Does anyone know if this has changed since the renovations started?

Thanks In Advance!

We just returned last night and even though the So. Wing is being rennovated, it is still occupied with guest. We faced the parking lot to a lovely view of construction trucks and workers. The So. Wing does have smoking floors (we've been there before and had to be moved). The entire front of the resort was occupied. maybe by January they will be using the back section of the resort wing then. We had a standard room and that is what we had--though I would've preferred the view of the parking lot without the construction. Just to warn you that parking in the south wing lots was a challenge because you share it with the cast members and some construction workers (even though the actual workers are bused in daily--management come and go throughout the day).

The south wing is NOT closed (yes they are putting people in the building while being rennovated, which shocked me). We just returned last night and stayed in the so. wing building for 7 nights. See my post above. Glad to see that there was some pixie dust for some of our disboard members. But none for me. :guilty:

I was just playing around on the disneyworld web site looking into 2006 rates for the CR. I noticed something interesting. The way that site works is to give you a price for your whole trip -- including tax. Then it gives you a bunch of different options, and shows you how much more or less it would be for that option. One of the options is "tower room," which is described as a tower room with either a bay or MK view. But there also was an option for "tower magic kingdom view." I've never seen this before. It was about $40 a night more than the regular tower room. Does this mean that it's a guaranteed MK view? I suppose this means that people who just book tower rooms and request MK views are going to be less likely to get them in 2006. Anyone know anything about this -- can't find this view class discussed anywhere. I always thought you just paid for a tower room and took your chances with which side you'd get.

This is something new for 2006.. yes - guaranteed MK view. So I'm assuming only the people who pay extra get the view... I'm figuring when you make reserv, you'll be asked whether you want a bay or mk view.

Maybe, although when you click on the link for a description of "tower room," it says you'll have either a MK or bay view. I think that means they aren't necessarily assuming that enough people will pay for MK view to fill all the MK rooms, so you'll still have a shot even if you don't pay the extra. In other words, it will just become harder to get one when you reserve a standard tower room.
